Tavern of the Spear: Desire for Pleasure
Chapter 4 Cheng Yu's "Story"
Evand, who had just run out of the tavern, was carried back by Snow before he could even deal with the slimes.
Evand was unlucky; he encountered a goat-headed monster not long after leaving the tavern. This kind of monster was no match for Evand in his current state. If Snow hadn't arrived in time, Evand would probably have lost his life.
"Sorry, young man, I didn't expect that guy to still be nearby. That kind of monster is not something you can handle right now. Leave it to me and Hakan."
"Hmm..." Evand lowered his head and listened attentively to Snow's words. He was still a little disappointed that he couldn't defeat the Goat-Headed Monster on his own. After all, who wouldn't want to show off in front of their father?
Looking at Evand's current state, Snow already knew what Evand was thinking. He sighed helplessly. That was all the advice he could give. After all, they were not related, and he was only helping Evand so much because of the word "father."
"Alright, you can go clear out the slimes around here now. That goat-headed monster shouldn't be coming back for a while. After you finish the quest, go find Chet. Okay, that's all I have to say. I'm going to get to work now..."
Having arranged everything, Snow got up and left this place that always distracted him.
As Evans watched Snow's departing figure, he secretly made up his mind to kill that goat-headed monster.
Evans' injuries had almost healed, and he quickly stood up and left the table.
Back outside the tavern, just as Snow had said, the goat-headed monster was gone, apparently having moved to a new territory. But no matter where the goat-headed monster went, Evand was determined to kill it, firstly for the safety of the tavern, and secondly to prove to his father that he had grown up.
Evand wandered aimlessly through the forest surrounding the tavern, picking mushrooms and other wildflowers along the way, as these were essential ingredients and food for his journey.
Because of the rain, the mushrooms in the forest were growing very well, and Evand trampled on many of them in no time, but he still didn't find a single monster.
After searching for a long time, Evand finally found the slime, but it was a little different from what he had imagined; the slime was far too huge.
Evand was quite bewildered because it was the first time he had seen such a large slime, but after he came to his senses, he raised his knife and slashed at the slime.
Actually, encountering such a giant slime isn't a common occurrence in this forest; it's just that Evand was probably a bit lucky...
(First of all, I want to make it clear that novels and games are very different. Slimes are easy to farm in games, but that doesn't mean slimes are easy to farm in novels. After all, things in games are completely different in reality, and not just anyone can do them...)
As soon as Evand's sword pierced the giant slime's body, he noticed something amiss. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't pull the sword out. Before long, the giant slime swallowed his sword whole.
The slime even started to devour his claws along the sword. Seeing this, Evand quickly released the string in his hand and retreated a distance. He didn't want to be swallowed by the slime like his sword.
Realizing it hadn't successfully swallowed Evand, the slime slowly moved towards him. As the giant slime passed by, it devoured almost everything that was alive, leaving only a barren wasteland.
Evan suddenly felt like he'd been having a really bad run of luck lately. First, he entered this strange fog, then he encountered a flood that swept away his travel companions, then he met his father, who seemed not to recognize him, then he met a goat-headed monster, and now he was facing a giant slime.
This is absolutely not what someone his age should be experiencing!
Evand ran quickly toward the tavern, but before he had gone far, his claws were grabbed by a long, slimy tentacle.
With a thud, Evand lost his balance and crashed heavily to the ground. Just as he realized what was wrong and tried to get up, his other claw was grabbed by a slimy tentacle.
Evand desperately gripped the ground with his two claws, but the force of the tentacles behind him was immense. His body was slowly dragged towards the giant slime by two leaf-like tentacles.
No matter how much Evand resisted, the force behind him never weakened. Evand gave a bitter smile, and finally his claws were also entangled by two tentacles covered in slime.
At this critical moment, a familiar yellow figure appeared in front of Evand.
"Cheng Yu..." The weak Evand managed to utter these two words before being completely swallowed by the slime.
The last sound Evan heard was a "click".
When Evand opened his eyes again, Cheng Yu was sitting next to him, fiddling with something in his paws.
"Cheng Yu...is this...is this heaven?"
Seeing that Evand had woken up, Cheng Yu put down what he was holding and shook his head.
"No, what are you thinking? We're all still alive. But how did you end up entangled with that big thing?"
"Really? But clearly... Ah!"
Seeing Evan's expression, Cheng Yu knew what he was thinking, so he pinched Evan's leg without hesitation.
"Now you understand? We're still alive, young master. I'm incredibly lucky. How could a little flood possibly kill me?"
"Haha! That's good. But how's that giant slime? It's the biggest slime I've ever seen!"
"Indeed, this is the first time I've seen him either, but I've already incorporated him into the story, so don't worry."
Evan looked at Cheng Yu with a puzzled expression, completely baffled by what Cheng Yu was saying.
"Ha, I almost forgot, you might not understand, but it's a special ability." Cheng Yu didn't know how to explain it to Evand so that he could understand, so he simply didn't explain.
Seeing that Cheng Yu seemed unwilling to say anything more, Evan didn't press further, after all, everyone has secrets.
"Alright, let's not talk about that anymore. You still haven't answered my question from before: how did you encounter this giant slime?"
"I just wanted to find some slimes to kill, I don't know why I ran into this thing. Luckily you came, or I would have been done for..."
Seeing Evand's obvious disappointment, Cheng Yu guessed why Evand had come to find the slime.
However, Cheng Yu actually wanted to say that this expert didn't have any ill intentions towards Evand; he just wanted to "play" with Evand. But it wasn't appropriate to say such things in this situation.
"Why don't we go together? That way we'll be safer. If there's a giant slime, I can help you deal with it."
"Thanks…"
Although he knew Cheng Yu meant well, Evan still felt that he was too weak and always needed others to protect him.
"Alright, let's go, don't just sit there like idiots!" Cheng Yu, who had already stood up, shouted loudly at Evans.
"Hmm!" Seeing the encouragement in Cheng Yu's eyes, Evand instantly dispelled the gloom in his heart. Indeed, he was not strong enough now, but he would definitely be able to stand on his own in the future, surpass his father, and make his father proud.
……
"Who is he?" Snow looked at Cheng Yu, who was standing next to Evand, with a puzzled expression.
"Dad, this is a friend I met on the road!"
"Oh...did you finish the mission? And didn't I tell you to go find Chet first? Why did you come directly to me? Is it because of your friend?" Snow looked at Cheng Yu with displeasure. He didn't know why he had such hostility towards this guy.
Another point is that he was working perfectly fine when Cheng Yu suddenly brought Ai Wende to him, almost causing him to lose a business deal.
"I...I forgot..." Evand smiled awkwardly. He was so excited to know that Cheng Yu was still alive that he forgot about Cheng Yu and didn't remind him.
"Forgot? Humph! I don't have a 'son' who's that forgetful! If you do this again, don't call me Dad!"
Snow pretended to be annoyed and yelled at Evand a few times, then handed a money pouch to Evand's hand.
"Alright, this is your payment, and the room on the second floor is yours now. Okay, don't bother me at work again, or I won't tolerate you anymore, you 'son'."
"Oh……"
Cheng Yu watched this scene and felt that it really was like an old father scolding his son. Of course, he wouldn't miss such a beautiful moment, so he quickly took out his camera and captured the scene.
"What are you doing?!" Snow was very annoyed when Cheng Yu suddenly pulled out a strange-looking thing and pointed it at him.
"It's nothing, just recording a beautiful moment, haha..." Looking at Snow's expression, Cheng Yu didn't know why, but he felt inexplicably scared. Maybe it was because Snow had taken the photos without permission.
"Haha~ Dad, don't be angry. That's just how my friend is. He just saved me once. He won't do anything bad. He's just storing up his stories!"
Hearing Evand's words, Snow's mood eased slightly. Hearing that the wolf-beastman in front of him had actually saved Evand, Snow was no longer angry.
"Alright, I'll be going then. You guys continue chatting. If anything comes up, go find Witt."
After saying this, Snow didn't linger and left.
Cheng Yu was speechless. Snow's differential treatment was unbearable for him. Cheng Yu even wondered if Snow had already regarded Evand as his son, otherwise why would he treat him differently?
"Haha! Sorry, my dad has always been like this. I don't know why, but he's always been like this since I was a child."
"I understand. I'm not angry. I envy you for having such a good father."
"Thank you, I'm very proud to have such a father!"
Cheng Yu nodded, said nothing more, and casually found an empty table and sat down.
Seeing this, Evand followed, and luckily there was an empty seat at the table, just enough for Evand to sit down.
"Hey Chengyu, what do you think I should do next?" Evande asked Chengyu as soon as he sat down.
"Didn't your old man say that if you need anything, go to Witt? If you really want to hear what I have to say, then I suggest you go buy a drink and treat that big guy next to you to one."
"Huh? Why? I don't even know him, why would I invite him for drinks?" Evan looked at Cheng Yu in confusion, then turned to look at the "big guy" Cheng Yu had mentioned.
As soon as Evand's gaze shifted, he was drawn to the red dragon's orcish physique. He seemed to remember that Evand had introduced this guy to him before, and his name was something like Hakan.
At the time, Evand didn't pay much attention, but now the more Evand looks at Hakan, the more excited he becomes, to the point that his clone is almost erect.
"Cough cough..." Seeing Evan's appearance, Cheng Yu coughed to remind him.
No wonder he's called the "Socket Wolf"; I really don't know how this guy did it.
Hearing Cheng Yu cough, Evan finally came to his senses, and his face immediately turned red.
He never expected that he would behave so out of character in front of his friend. If it had been Snow, Evand probably wouldn't have been able to sleep all night.
"Haha, it's okay, I understand~ Anyway, you can't go wrong by buying him a drink, and who knows, he might even like you~"
"No, don't tease me like that, okay?" Hearing Cheng Yu's words, Aivende's face turned even redder.
"Alright, it seems you're not too keen on it. I'll go by myself then." Cheng Yu said, feigning regret, before getting up from his chair and walking towards Hakan's table.
At Hakan's table, there wasn't just Hakan Yilong; there was also an orc who was always sleeping. Cheng Yu had never seen this orc wake up while playing the game, perhaps because the game hadn't been updated to that point yet.
There was an empty seat at the table, and Cheng Yu naturally sat down. Perhaps feeling that the position wasn't ideal, Cheng Yu pulled the chair closer to Hakant.
"Hey! Get away from me! Don't get so close!" Hakan, still slightly drunk, was about to push Cheng Yu away when he sobered up a bit.
"I'm sorry... I think I was a bit too rude just now, but please leave. If you have any drinks, perhaps we can chat for a while..."
Cheng Yu didn't care about Hakan's rude behavior. He calmly took out a photo from his waist bag.
Then Cheng Yu stretched out a claw and reached for the photo. The photo, which should have been torn to shreds by the sharp claw, miraculously sucked the attacking claw into it.
However, Cheng Yu did not panic. After a short while, he pulled out the claw that had been sucked in. In addition, there was a bottle of wine in the claw.
Hakan and Evand both stared in shock at the scene. Hakan, who was still slightly drunk, instantly sobered up.
"How did you do that?" Evan looked at Cheng Yu in disbelief. He had only ever seen Cheng Yu use this thing to put monsters inside, but he never expected that things could be taken out of it. The most outrageous thing was that the original bottle of wine was still there.
"Mr. Hakan, here's the wine you ordered. Can we talk now?"
"Can……"
