Chapter 74 Scalpel
Even Yue looked at Bai Ling with curiosity, silently asking him what the use of all this was.
Bai Ling explained simply: "Nails are very useful. For example, if we want to turn two pieces of wood into one, we need to use nails. Screws are also very useful; they can connect two unrelated pieces of iron to make a machine."
The tribespeople didn't understand what Bai Ling was saying at all, but that didn't stop them from being happy.
Ling has made so many things, all of which are very useful. Now that Ling says these two little things are very useful, they must be very useful.
After the clansmen left, Bai Ling and Yue moved closer together, and he whispered, "Yue, nails are needed when building a house."
His eyes lit up, and his mood suddenly improved.
When the clansmen were here earlier, Ling had already explained how to use nails and screws. Now, she's secretly telling him again. Is it because the house is a secret known only to Ling and herself?
This idea made Yue feel very happy. He had a feeling that the house was not a secret known only to him and Ling, but a bond that connected the two of them.
They became closer and happier because of this.
“Ling, let’s get some more nails,” Yue said, looking at Bai Ling with a smile in her eyes. “That way, the house we build will be even more beautiful.”

The requirements for making scalpels are quite high: the blade must be thin, the edge must be sharp, the grip must be firm, and ideally, it should not rust.
In order to find the most suitable iron formula, Bai Ling and Yue spent more than half a month in the iron smelting room, making dozens of wrought iron and pig iron formulas, and finally made suitable steel.
To make the scalpel sharper, Bai Ling and Yue took the same approach as when making their first scalpel, repeatedly hammering it. While other tribespeople could only make one side of a scalpel at most, it took Bai Ling and Yue three whole days to make a single small scalpel.
Neither of them spoke as they hammered, only the clanging of the hammers striking the iron echoed. Bai Ling would occasionally look up at Yue, and Yue would look up in return. Their eyes met in mid-air, and both would exchange faint smiles.
After exchanging a smile, the two continued working with their heads down.
They made a total of five scalpels and some surgical needles, which took more than a month.
For more than a month, Bai Ling and Yue have been spending all their time in the iron smelting room, and they haven't even had their usual exercise. However, blacksmithing can be considered a form of exercise, and Bai Ling's muscles have become much firmer.
Each scalpel had been hammered countless times by Bai Ling and Yue. The blades were slender and thin, with extremely sharp edges. Bai Ling had tested them on animal meat; with a little force, they could slice through the skin and flesh, and even animal hides could be easily cut open.
Yue packed five scalpels, two smaller pairs of scissors, and several thin needles into a wooden box, and walked with Bai Ling toward the cave where the witch lived.
The cave where the witch lived was inhabited by elderly orcs from the surrounding tribes. Their cave was much smaller than Bai Ling's cave, with a fire wall and a long kang (heated brick bed). The fire wall in this cave was always burning, so the cave was warmer than the other caves.
Upon seeing the scalpel that Bai Ling and Yue had brought, Wu's eyes lit up with surprise. He didn't even have time to thank Bai Ling and Yue before he quickly walked out of the cave.
Wu held a scalpel in both hands, examining it closely in mid-air. Then, she pinched the blade between two fingers, placed it to her lips, and gently blew on it.
"Ling, Yue, thank you. I really like, no, I really love these knives," Wu said with a smile. "I don't even need to test them to know they must be very sharp."
Wu smiled and said, "Ling, Yue, from now on you are friends of the Snow Mountain Tribe. If you ever need help, you can come to the Snow Mountain Tribe to find me."
Bai Ling waved his hand: "Witch, we didn't really do anything. These knives and needles were all things you traded with the tribe."
These things were not given to the shaman for free, of course. The shaman traded dried meat, animal hides, and a whole basket of sweet grass with the tribe.
Chief Zhan knew that the things the shaman made were for healing the orcs, so he gave the shaman a head start and had them made ahead of time.
Otherwise, at the current rate of queuing, it might be the second half of next year before it's Wu's turn.
Wu shook his head and said, "Ling, Yue, you made the ironware, and you designed these things, Ling. I should thank you. You can tell me what you want."
Bai Ling scratched his head, thought for a moment, and then said his request: "Witch, can you give me some live sweet grass? I want to try to grow sweet grass so that I can have sweet grass to eat in the future."
To be honest, Bai Ling really didn't know if the shaman would agree to her request. Sweet grass was an important resource for the Snow Mountain Tribe that could be traded with other tribes. Now she was going to plant sweet grass. If she succeeded in growing it, the Snow Mountain Tribe would definitely be affected. At the very least, the price it would fetch when trading with other tribes would definitely decrease.
Yue said from the side, "Witch, Bai Ling really likes planting. He says it's a way to reliably obtain food. Relying on hunting and gathering often doesn't provide enough food. Only by planting and raising animals can beastmen get more food and their lives will get better and better. Ling really needs Sweet Grass seeds. Could you give him some?"
Yue decided that if the witch refused, he would continue to persuade her, or he could offer other good things to exchange with the witch. Ling really liked sweet grass, and he was determined to help Ling exchange for the sweet grass that he could grow.
To their surprise, the shaman readily agreed: "Sure, the sweet grass sprouts after all the vegetation turns green. You can come to the Snow Mountain Tribe at that time, and I can have a tribesman take you to find the sweet grass."
Bai Ling was surprised that Wu agreed so easily. He thanked her repeatedly, but Wu said, "Don't thank me yet. I also need to ask you some questions."
Bai Ling asked, "Wu, what do you want to ask me?"
Wu laughed and said, "Ling, in the world you dreamed about, the people there seemed to be very powerful. Do you know how the doctors in that world treat patients?"
The shaman was the best doctor in the nearby tribes, and all the doctors in the nearby tribes were his apprentices. He was very curious to know how doctors treated patients in the world Ling dreamed of.
