Chapter 16 White Wolf Under the Moon

The boy was very talkative: "Yue and I came out to catch fish so we could make some fish soup for our injured tribesmen. Yue is very good at catching fish, even better than the fox beastmen," he said, pointing to the basket on a rock beside him. "We've been lucky; we've already caught four fish."

Bai Ling's eyes flickered. He glanced at the basket on the rock and asked casually, "Are you going to make fish soup for your injured tribesmen? Do you need my help?"

"I learned a method for making fish soup in my dream, and the taste of it will definitely be good."

The enormous white wolf bent over, its head close to the water's surface. Water droplets clung to its body, and under the pale golden moonlight, its fur seemed to shimmer with light.

Suddenly, the white wolf's sleek and beautiful body unleashed tremendous power. It leaped into the air, as if stepping on moonlight, with an extraordinarily large and bright full moon behind it. The full moon, like a crown, seemed to rest lightly on the white wolf's head, making it appear exceptionally majestic. The white wolf then moved swiftly forward on the moonlight before plunging heavily into the water, creating a large splash.

The moon's entire body was almost submerged in the water, with only its back exposed. The splashing water reflected the moonlight, almost mesmerizing Bai Ling's eyes.

The moon quickly emerged from the water, its claws empty. It let the splashing water droplets fall on it, standing there motionless, its eyes fixed on one spot.

Then, it quickly ran downstream, splashing water everywhere.

Bai Ling opened her mouth, but no sound came out.

The boy with peach blossom eyes said, "Yue went to catch fish. He might catch another one when he comes back later."

The moon has already gone, but the image of it leaping up still lingers in Bai Ling's eyes. It was a fleeting glimpse of wildness and divinity perfectly blended, and he will never forget it in his life.

Bai Ling stopped putting down the fish basket. He wanted to stare in the direction Yue had left, but then felt it would be too impolite, since there was still an orc there.

Bai Ling asked, "I still don't know your name."

The fox-eyed boy chuckled, "My name is Xiao because I was very small when I was born, so my father gave me this name."

Bai Ling: "Xiao, how about this, I'll make fish soup for you tomorrow. My cooking skills are the best in the tribe."

“I know, Ling, your cassava cakes and stewed meat are delicious,” the little girl said, her enthusiasm immediately rising at the mention of food. “The cassava cakes have a wonderfully sweet taste; I could eat until I burst just from eating the cakes. The stewed meat is also incredibly delicious; I’ve never tasted meat this good before. We usually cook meat in an earthenware pot, and it either turns out tough and chewy or mushy and falls apart. Your meat is so fragrant and sweet; I ate two big bowls and still wasn’t enough. If Father hadn’t stopped me, I could have eaten at least three bowls.”

Bai Ling smiled and said, "Yes, I'm very happy that you enjoy my cooking." Bai Ling patted his chest and said, "Leave the fish soup to me. Should I make it tomorrow morning?"

Xiao didn't refuse again: "No need, Ling, you can do it whenever you're free."

Bai Ling: "Then let's do it at noon."

Xiao smiled and said, "Okay, I'll tell Yue later."

There was a noise behind me; Yue had returned.

The white wolf has strong and agile limbs. It can leap far away with a light leap, as if it were riding the wind and shattering the moonlight.

Xiao shouted, "Yue, you caught another fish?" He yelled excitedly, "Yue, you're really amazing! We've caught several fish already, that should be enough."

Yue threw the fish into her basket, shook off the water droplets, and went back into the river.

She ran to the riverbank and shouted, "Yue, let's go back. We have enough fish."

The moon ignored the small one and sped away in the water, each leap creating a splash. The sound of the splashes and the flow of water mingled together, like a beautiful melody.

Bai Ling found a place to put the fish basket. Putting the fish basket in was very simple. Just find a suitable spot, put the fish basket down, and then fix the fish basket in place.

While Bai Ling was setting up the fish basket, Xiao stood to the side watching. He seemed very curious about the fish basket Bai Ling had made. After Bai Ling finished setting it up, he asked, "Ling, can this really catch fish?"

Bai Ling patted the water droplets off her hands: "I don't know either, I hope I can catch a fish."

He wanted to drink fish soup.

The moon brought back another fish, and it wanted to go back into the water, but Xiao stopped it.

He was less than 1.8 meters tall, not considered tall in the orc tribe. He grabbed the white wolf's hind leg and shouted, "Moon, there are enough fish. Don't go down anymore. Let's go back."

The author pointed to Bai Ling, who was standing to the side, and said, "Ling said she would make fish soup for us."

The white wolf looked over with its icy blue eyes, and Bai Ling gave a big smile: "Yue, the fish soup I make will definitely be delicious."

The white wolf nodded slightly to him, handed the fish in its mouth to Xiao, and ran behind a large rock. After a short while, a handsome man with long silver hair came out from behind the rock.

Bai Ling's eyes almost popped out of their sockets. Luckily it was nighttime, so even with the moonlight, she wouldn't be able to see very clearly. Otherwise, Yue would definitely be startled.

Xiao walked over, picked up the basket on his back, and the three of them headed towards the low mountain. Bai Ling walked beside Yue, naturally feeling very nervous. He was not usually a dull person, but now he couldn't say a word and just kept his head down as they walked.

Few people usually walk here, so the vegetation is exceptionally lush. Even with the bright moonlight, the path underfoot is invisible. Bai Ling, not paying attention to her footing, accidentally stepped into a small pit, lost her balance, and fell face-first to the ground.

Bai Ling struggled wildly with both hands, but before he could even cry out, he was grabbed by a pair of hands.

"Be careful." Yue's voice was very pleasant, with a refreshing quality, like the gentle flow of a spring.

The hands were warm. Bai Ling subconsciously looked up and saw a handsome face. His icy blue eyes revealed a hint of concern. His long silver hair shone brightly in the moonlight. Bai Ling was stunned.

Xiao called out from the side, "Ling, what's wrong? Are you alright?"

Yue released Bai Ling's hand, and Bai Ling smiled sheepishly: "I'm fine, I just missed a step."

He looked down at the ground, where weeds a foot high grew lushly under the moonlight, making it impossible to see his footing.

Bai Ling's gaze suddenly sharpened.

Not far from his feet, there was a clump of green grass, which was about two feet tall. Unlike other weeds, its stems and leaves were distinct. Its white rootstock was about the height of a hand, and above that were green, round leaves. Some of the leaves had small, transparent buds the size of a thumb on them.
