Chapter 75 The Mystery of the Temple
The moment Zhang Yifan and his disciples stepped into the temple, the surrounding atmosphere changed abruptly.
The broken and desolate plains of the past have vanished without a trace, replaced by a magnificent and mysterious space.
Despite its antiquity, the temple is protected by a mysterious power. The walls are covered with intricate runes that emit a faint light, as if silently telling the story of the temple's history.
"This temple... is not as dilapidated as it appears from the outside."
Lin Qingzhu spoke softly, her gaze sweeping around her, a hint of wariness and curiosity in her eyes.
"These runes seem to contain the power of some kind of formation."
Ling Yunfeng frowned as he carefully observed the runes on the walls.
His fingers gently brushed over the runes, and he could faintly sense the fluctuations of power within them.
Zhang Yifan also noticed the runes, his expression turning solemn. He vaguely sensed that this temple might not be just a simple building; it seemed to be hiding some far more terrifying secret.
"What do we do now?"
One of the surviving disciples couldn't help but ask, his expression revealing exhaustion and unease. After experiencing the trials of the previous levels, everyone's physical and spiritual energy were almost exhausted, and any slight disturbance could cause them to lose their composure.
Ling Yunfeng did not answer immediately. He walked to the center of the temple and stared intently at the altar at the far end of the hall.
On the altar sat a crystal that shimmered with a faint light. The crystal was pale blue, as if some unknown power was sealed within it.
"This should be the core item on this floor."
Ling Yunfeng spoke softly, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
"Perhaps, touching this crystal will trigger the next trial."
"Spar?"
Zhang Yifan's heart stirred, and he looked up at the altar. The faint light made him feel uneasy. This unease did not come from the outside world, but from a certain intuition deep within his heart.
"Let's give it a try."
Ling Yunfeng said in a deep voice. Although he also sensed the danger on this level, they had no other choice at the moment.
Just as everyone was about to approach the altar, a deep humming sound suddenly came from inside the temple, as if the entire temple was responding to their presence.
Immediately afterwards, dazzling lights suddenly shone on the walls around the main hall, and all the runes began to flicker at the same time, filled with mysterious power.
"Everyone be careful!" Ling Yunfeng shouted in a low voice, quickly drawing his sword to protect himself, his eyes scanning the surroundings warily.
At the same time, the crystals on the altar began to vibrate violently, their light growing stronger, as if the entire temple had been awakened by some unknown force.
"What's going on?" Lin Qingzhu asked nervously, her palms already covered in cold sweat.
“I’m afraid we’ve triggered the array within the temple…” Ling Yunfeng’s expression was grave, a hint of anxiety flashing in his eyes. “Everyone, stay alert and prepare for the changes to come.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the crystal in the center of the altar suddenly shattered, and blue light spread out like a tide, instantly enveloping the entire hall in a curtain of light. Zhang Yifan only felt a blur before his eyes, and then the world spun around him, as if the entire space was being distorted.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself no longer standing in the temple, but in a strange world.
"What is this place……"
Zhang Yifan murmured to himself, looking around. He found himself standing on a desolate piece of land. The sky was gray, the ground was cracked, and a suffocating aura of death permeated the air. There was no grandeur of a temple here, only endless desolation and silence.
Is everyone still there?
Zhang Yifan tried to call out to the others, but there was only silence and no response. The other disciples seemed to have vanished, and he was completely isolated in this strange world.
"This is...an illusion?" Zhang Yifan frowned. He could sense that this space was somewhat similar to the illusions he had experienced before, but it also had a greater sense of realism. Every gust of wind and the deathly aura in the air made him feel as if he were actually there.
"Damn it, this time it's a solo trial..."
Zhang Yifan realized that he had been drawn into a more dangerous trial, facing unknown dangers alone.
He suppressed his fear, gripped his longsword tightly, and slowly stepped forward.
As he ventured deeper into this desolate land, the deathly aura in the air grew stronger, and the surrounding scenery began to blur, as if countless phantoms were moving in the shadows.
Each step felt like walking on thin air, sending a chill down his spine.
Suddenly, a blurry figure appeared in his sight. It was the back of a woman in white, standing quietly not far away, as if waiting for him.
"Who!" Zhang Yifan gripped his longsword tightly, his eyes fixed on the figure.
The woman in white did not respond to his question, and remained with her back to him, her figure appearing particularly eerie and lonely.
"Who exactly are you?" Zhang Yifan cautiously approached, spreading his spiritual sense to try to detect the other person's aura, but strangely, he could not sense any spiritual energy fluctuations from that figure at all, as if she did not exist.
Just as he was about to approach the woman, suddenly, the figure turned around, revealing a pale, bloodless face.
Her eyes were empty and lifeless, and a strange smile appeared on her lips. Then, her body turned into a cloud of black mist and rushed straight towards Zhang Yifan.
"Illusion!" Zhang Yifan was startled and hurriedly activated his spiritual power, swinging his longsword to try to cut through the black mist.
However, the black mist was completely unaffected by any attack, passing directly through his sword light and instantly enveloping his entire body.
Zhang Yifan felt a chill run through his body, as if countless icy energies were invading his meridians, and his consciousness began to blur. The black mist seemed to be eroding his spirit, plunging him into endless darkness.
"I can't...fall down!"
Zhang Yifan gritted his teeth and desperately circulated his spiritual energy, trying to shake off this strange power. But the black mist clung to his soul like a malignant tumor, as if it wanted to completely devour his consciousness.
Just as his consciousness was fading away, a clear voice suddenly reached his ears.
"Zhang Yifan! Wake up!"
The sound seemed like a powerful force, pulling him back from the abyss. Zhang Yifan suddenly opened his eyes, only to see the black mist before him suddenly cleaved open by a sword light, then vanished into nothingness.
"Senior brother!" Lin Qingzhu appeared in front of him, her eyes filled with anxiety and concern.
Zhang Yifan gasped for breath, barely managing to stand, the fear from just moments before still lingering in his mind.
He knew that the black mist he had just seen was not just an illusion; it seemed to possess some kind of soul-stealing power. If Lin Qingzhu hadn't arrived in time, he might have already been lost in this darkness.
"Are you alright?" Lin Qingzhu helped him up, her eyes filled with concern.
"I'm fine..." Zhang Yifan shook his head, forcing himself to calm down. "The illusions here are far more bizarre than before, we must be even more careful."
"Where is everyone else?" Lin Qingzhu looked around and found that apart from the two of them, the entire space was still empty, as if Ling Yunfeng and the other disciples had disappeared.
“It seems we’ve been separated,” Zhang Yifan said in a deep voice. “Each of us may be caught up in our own trial.”
Lin Qingzhu nodded, her expression growing increasingly serious: "What should we do next?"
Zhang Yifan pondered for a moment, his gaze fixed on a distant void: "No matter how the illusion changes, we must find a way to break it."
Only by overcoming this illusion can we continue forward.
The two supported each other and embarked on an unknown path once again.
They knew that the trial before them was not only a test of their strength, but also the ultimate test of their will and spirit.
What awaits them is an even more brutal challenge.
