Chapter 222 Watching the Children
The next day, as soon as the morning sun began to stream into the room, Luo Li and Wanwan got up early. Today was the first day of activities with the villagers, and they were full of anticipation for the upcoming events.
After a quick wash, the two hurried to the meeting point to get breakfast. Apparently, breakfast was served on a first-come, first-served basis, and those who arrived late might not get any.
When they arrived at the meeting point, they found that there was still plenty of breakfast. Looking at the breakfast, which wasn't very varied but was steaming hot, the two of them discussed it and decided to take six fried dough sticks and two cups of soy milk.
Luo Li smiled and said to Wanwan, "We should eat more, we don't know how busy we'll be later." Wanwan nodded in agreement, and the two ate and chatted, enjoying the peaceful and rustic morning.
After breakfast, the four families arrived at the meeting point one after another. The village chief stood in front of the crowd, cleared his throat, and said, "The peaches in the village are all ripe. We had planned for everyone to help with the harvest these past two days."
Today, each of the four families needs to send two people to help look after the village children, and the other two to help the villagers harvest peaches. We'll decide who will do what by drawing lots.
Everyone crowded around the lottery box, and the atmosphere suddenly became tense yet interesting. Luo Li fumbled around in the box for a while, pulled out a slip of paper, and opened it to find that it read "Watch the kids." She looked up and realized that she and rock singer Cui Yongyuan had drawn the same task.
Those who drew the peach-harvesting task began preparing their tools, reminding each other to take precautions. Meanwhile, Luo Li and Cui Yongyuan, wanting to make it easier to look after the children, decided to bring all the village children to the village school. The children chattered incessantly like a flock of cheerful birds along the way.
Upon arriving at school, Luo Li and Cui Yongyuan organized games for the children. The first game was "Eagle Catches Chickens," and Luo Li volunteered to be the "eagle." The children excitedly lined up, each holding onto the hem of another's clothes to be a "chicken."
Luo Li dodged and weaved, trying to catch the "chicken," while the children screamed and dodged, their laughter echoing through the schoolyard. After getting tired of "Eagle Catches Chickens," everyone started playing "Beanbag Toss."
Luo Li and Cui Yongyuan stood at opposite ends throwing beanbags, while the children nimbly jumped and dodged in the middle. The children who were hit by the beanbags were taken off the field to rest, and other children took their place.
Next, they organized a small tug-of-war. The children were divided into two teams, gripping the rope tightly with both hands, their faces flushed red, pulling with all their might. The cheerleaders on the sidelines were equally enthusiastic, shouting encouragement. After several rounds of intense competition, the children were almost exhausted, sitting on the ground panting heavily.
The children chatted in small groups. Suddenly, someone started singing a simple nursery rhyme. Soon, the other children joined in, and the song drifted gently through the schoolyard.
Luo Li sat to the side, watching these innocent children, her heart filled with warmth. In this small village, there was no hustle and bustle of the city, but only the purest joy and warmth.
As Luo Li gazed at the group of smiling, carefree children, a song suddenly came to mind. The melody was light and warm, just like the light in the children's eyes at that moment.
A smile crept onto her lips as she gently patted the table, making a crisp sound. The children, hearing the noise, instantly fell silent, their bright eyes filled with curiosity as they all turned to look at Luo Li.
Luo Li cleared her throat, a gentle smile on her face, her voice clear and full of anticipation: "My darlings, I'm going to teach you a super nice song, I guarantee you've never heard it before! Once you learn it, you can sing it for fun whenever you're happy, okay?"
"Great! Great!" The children erupted in excitement, their faces flushed. Some stomped their feet in jubilation, others clapped enthusiastically, and still others eagerly surrounded Luo Li, bombarding her with questions: "What song is it? Teach us quickly!"
