Chapter 354 The Rise of Baal
Kayans stood in the twisted corridors of Tzeentch's Temple, beneath his feet countless skulls inlaid with runes, each bearing the name of a comrade he had betrayed. His prosthetic eye projected holographic images—every scene of Russell's time at Baal Fortress: the super-angel warriors following him like shadows, the golden psionic barrier enveloping the fortress, and even the seal on the Tomb of Sanguiles being tripled.
“My master,” Kayans’s voice echoed eerily in the temple, “Russell has grown to a point where we can no longer easily eliminate him.”
Saint Ives emerged from the warp rift, his robes composed of countless flowing runes, each telling a different lie. His voice, like a thousand voices superimposed, said: "You have disappointed me, Kayanth. I gave you the ability to glimpse fate, not so you could use it to complain about difficulties."
Kayans's prosthetic eye spun rapidly, and the holographic image switched to the scene of Russell exiling Magnus: "He not only received the Emperor's blessing but also the legacy of Saint Gilles. Even if you personally intervened, I'm afraid you would find it difficult to take his life under Baal's heavy defenses."
Saint Ives's robes suddenly transformed into countless fluttering paper cranes, each carrying a different plan: "Since we can't kill him directly, let him bring about his own destruction." His fingertip pointed to one of the paper cranes, and fragments of the star god from the planet Maral appeared in the image. "Let him touch those beings that even the gods fear."
Kayans's mechanical prosthetic eye flashed blue: "But the Star God fragments have been sealed in the Tomb of Saint Gilles, how can we...?"
“A seal?” Saint Ives’s voice was laced with sarcasm. “That was just an illusion I gave them.” His robes suddenly unfurled, revealing the truth hidden beneath the runes—the real Star God fragments had long since been moved to a desolate star system on the edge of the Eye of Terror, and what remained with Baal was merely a carefully crafted decoy.
“Doesn’t Russell like saving the world?” Saint Ives’ laughter echoed through the temple. “Then let him save a galaxy destined for destruction. When his golden psionic energy resonates with the fragments of the Star God, the entire galaxy will witness—how the greatest hero becomes the most terrible catastrophe.”
Kayans's prosthetic eye suddenly shattered, replaced by a psionic crystal inlaid with Tzeentch runes: "I will make him believe that this is the only way to save the Empire."
Deep within the warp, Kayans's figure gradually faded. Russell's image was reflected in his mechanical prosthetic eye, his voice tinged with mockery: "Russell, can your conviction... withstand this test?"
…………
Russell's dream was torn apart once more, this time not by a burning battlefield, but by a labyrinth of countless mirrors. Each mirror reflected a different aspect of his life—a warrior wielding the "Blood Drinker," a mortal lying in a pool of blood, or even a fallen being corrupted by chaos. Kayans's figure emerged from the mirror.
“Russell,” Kayans’s voice was unusually serious, “I’m here to tell you the truth—the Lord of Changes wants to use the power of the Star Gods to completely annihilate you.”
Russell sneered, "You think I'd believe a traitor?"
Kayans's prosthetic eye suddenly projected a holographic image—the Temple of the Almighty, where fragments of the Astral God flickered with destructive light within a warp rift: "Look at this, Russell. You thought the true fragments of the Astral God were sealed in the Tomb of Sanguiles? That was just bait. The real fragments have long been moved to a desolate star system on the edge of the Eye of Terror, where the Almighty is constructing a trap powerful enough to destroy the entire galaxy."
Russell's dream suddenly distorted, transforming into the desolate star system where the fragments of the Protoss resided. He saw countless Eldar warships patrolling the outer reaches of the system, their weapons gleaming with eerie psionic light. Kayans's voice echoed from all directions: "If you don't stop it, the power of the Protoss fragments will tear apart the barrier between reality and the warp, plunging the entire galaxy into chaos."
As the dream collapsed, Russell frowned slightly and asked, "Why are you telling me this?"
Before fading away, Kayans's lingering image uttered a final whisper: "Because I want to see if your faith can withstand true desperation."
After Russell awoke from his dream, he sought out Dante once more.
"Another dream?" Dante frowned.
Russell nodded. "He told me that the Lord of Changes wanted to use the power of the Star Gods to completely annihilate me," Russell's golden pupils reflected the subspace storm. "The real fragments of the Star Gods have already been transferred to a desolate star system on the edge of the Eye of Terror."
Dante fell into a brief silence: "This is a trap, Russell. The Master of Changes wants to lure you to your death."
Russell, utterly uncertain, said, "Lord Dante, if I don't stop it, the power of the Star God fragments will tear apart the barrier between reality and the warp, plunging the entire galaxy into chaos."
Dante was skeptical of the Myriad Manifestations Demon Lord's words. Had it really replaced the Star God Fragment? What kind of conspiracy was this?
“Russell, I still advise you not to go there no matter what. Tzeentch’s words are all lies!” Dante said.
At Dante's urging, Russell decided to ignore the matter, as he had his own things to attend to.
…………
Since the Super Angel Warriors joined the Blood Angels Legion, Baal's power and influence have spread rapidly like wildfire. The Imperial planets, which once eked out a living between chaos and aliens, now all turn their attention to this crimson land.
In the command hall of Baal Fortress, countless distress signals flashed on the holographic star map. A deep laugh echoed from beneath Dante's Blood Mask: "It seems our superangels have become the beacon of hope for the Empire."
Mephisto's psionic vessel swirled in his hand, its light illuminating his solemn face: "Lord Dante, some of these distress signals come from planets that once looked down on us."
"Then let them see what a true Holy Blood Angel is!" Carleon's white wings fluttered gently behind him, and the blade of his power sword "Holy Judgment" gleamed with a cold light.
On the edge of the Cardian Sector, a Tyranid fleet was approaching. The local planetary governor desperately sent out a distress signal, but to his surprise, the Baal fleet warped in within hours.
"For the Emperor!" Russell's roar echoed across the battlefield. His "Blood Drinker" entrenching tool whirled in his hand, each swing of the blade igniting a burst of flame with golden psionic energy. The super-angel warriors followed closely behind, their white wings shimmering like snow in the starlight.
The Tyranid offensive crumbled under the blades of the Superangel. Each swing of Carleon's power sword, "Judgment," brought a shower of blood, his white wings tracing a deadly arc across the battlefield. Arya raised her psionic staff high, its crystals radiating a dazzling light, forming a barrier that blocked the Tyranid psionic barrage.
The planetary governor stood amidst the ruins, his eyes filled with reverence and fanaticism: "The Holy Blood Angels...they've really come!"
On the observatory of Baal Fortress, Dante gazed at the distant stars. A look of satisfaction shone in his eyes: "Russell, your superangels have become the beacon of hope for the Empire."
Russell said proudly, "Lord Dante, this is just the beginning."
Mephisto's psionic staff glowed faintly, and his voice carried a hint of warning: "Lord Dante, our influence is expanding too rapidly, which may arouse the suspicion of other chapters."
Dante's voice held a resolute tone: "It doesn't matter. No matter how the other chapters view us, we will continue forward. For the Emperor, for the glory of the Blood Angels."
