Chapter 154 The Young "Hive Overlord"
Jianqi is always a master of deception, blurring the lines between truth and falsehood; you can never truly see through his real intentions.
Black Hawk helicopters swept over industrial cities and towering mountains, heading towards a primeval forest.
"Soldiers..."
"Let us take up our steel guns..."
"never back down!"
"For the Emperor!"
…………
This is a poem written by a famous scholar of the Empire, which was adapted into lyrics by an Imperial musician and sung by a stirring and resounding tenor as "The Imperial March!"
Their mission this time was very simple: to patrol the forest in a Black Hawk helicopter.
Kayans and Russell each carried a high-powered telescope and occasionally looked down to observe the situation.
"Why are your eyes so red? Didn't you sleep well last night?" Cayan asked Russell.
Russell nodded and said: Yes, I had a nightmare yesterday?
"Nightmare? What kind of nightmare?"
"I dreamt that we were all killed by insects!"
“Hehe…” Kayans laughed.
“You’re too tense, just relax!” Kayans comforted Russell.
Russell glanced at Cayans unconsciously and found that he seemed to have returned to normal.
Unbeknownst to them, the Black Hawk helicopter had already flown into the deepest part of the forest.
“This place looks deserted. I don’t understand why Commander Borg has ordered us to patrol here.” Kayans felt there was no need to patrol here.
“I’ve fought the Zerg before. Before the main force arrives, they like to lie in wait in the most remote corner of the world. The more remote the place, the more likely they are to appear,” Russell explained as he scanned the area below through his binoculars.
Kayans nodded and said: I haven't really fought these Tyranids yet, but from the last encounter, I don't think they're that strong.
"I used to think that way too, but I changed my mind after I saw the Hive Overlord."
"Hive overlord?"
"Yes, it was a huge creature that was nearly 10 meters tall, with an incredibly hard shell and extremely powerful attack capabilities. It took the Captain of the Van Grey Chapter and several Space Marines to barely kill it that time."
"Is it that amazing? Now that you mention it, I really want to see it for myself." Kayans became excited again for some reason.
"Kayans, Russell, how's the situation on your end?" Commander Borg said into the communicator.
“We haven’t found anything here yet!” Russell replied.
"The lowest level of the industrial city has been discovered. There are traces of cunning individuals and mutants, which means the Hive's will has taken notice of this place. Be patient, you should make some discoveries."
"Yes, Commander, we will patrol more carefully."
After ending the call with the commander, Russell said: It seems the Terran are really coming.
"Something seems off there?"
Russell quickly picked up his binoculars and looked in the direction Kayans was pointing.
It was the carcass of a large feline, with several gruesome wounds on its body.
The pilot immediately turned the helicopter around and took off in that direction.
A huge, multicolored lynx lay there quietly, the ground stained with blood, and several horrific wounds on its body.
Russell examined it carefully through his binoculars and asked, "What do you think killed it?"
“Perhaps it’s one of its kind? Look at its huge fangs.” Kayans wasn’t quite sure.
“We should go down and take a look. I don’t think its own kind could have caused it such great harm,” Russell said.
"Isn't that too dangerous? What if there are its own kind down there?"
"What are we afraid of when we have armed helicopters?"
“Alright, let’s go down and take a look. You guys come down with us,” Kayans said to the other three Cardia commandos.
As the Black Hawk helicopter slowly descended, about ten meters above the ground, a Khadia commando quickly lowered a rope ladder.
Russell was the first to start climbing down, followed closely by Kayans.
Soon all five people disembarked from the helicopter.
"Be on alert!" Kayans commanded in a low voice.
Russell quickly approached the lynx's corpse.
After approaching the lynx's corpse, he squatted down and carefully examined its wounds.
This is a huge beast. If it stands up, its shoulder height would probably be 1.5 meters, and if it stands upright, it would be no less than 3 meters tall. Its thick fur, sharp claws, and huge fangs all indicate that it is the overlord of this place. What kind of creature killed this overlord of the mountains?
Human weapons would certainly have difficulty inflicting such damage on it, and Space Marines wouldn't be able to either. Could it be a Blade Worm? However, Russell felt that Blade Worms couldn't possibly inflict such damage on it either. Warrior Worms and Licats could, but if those two powerful Zerg combat units appeared, then this place would already be full of Blade Worms.
"Can you tell what killed it?" Kayans approached.
Russell shook his head and said, "I can't tell, but judging from the wound, it just died. This isn't where it was injured; it must have escaped from there to here."
“We can follow the bloodstains it left behind; maybe we can find some clues?” Kayans suggested.
“We can give it a try!” Russell stood up, picked up the Fire Kirin, and began searching along the trail of the lynx’s blood.
All around were towering trees, and the ground was covered with dead leaves and branches, which made the leather boots crunch as they stepped on them.
Black Hawk helicopters followed them from above.
"Lord Kayans, two more lynx corpses have appeared ahead!" reported the Kadia commando in charge of reconnaissance.
At this time, there were still two commandos on the Black Hawk helicopter responsible for reconnaissance.
Sure enough, two more lynx corpses appeared before them, but these two lynxes were more seriously injured; one had its head chopped off, and the other had been split in two.
This is clearly where the lynxes fought the mysterious creature; several large trees have been cut in half.
"Be careful!" Russell whispered.
"Lord Kayans, a dark figure is approaching!" the scout exclaimed.
Russell tensed up instantly and quickly raised the fire unicorn in his hand towards the front.
"Everyone move closer to Russell!" Kayans commanded.
Russell is the strongest fighter here; they will only have a chance of winning if they move closer to him.
"Fire!" the scout shouted.
The Black Hawk attack helicopter was firing its heavy machine guns indiscriminately.
A dark figure lunged at the armed helicopter.
With a loud "boom," the Black Hawk attack helicopter exploded violently.
Their greatest asset was thus wiped out in an instant by the shadowy figure.
While others couldn't see the enemy yet, Russell had already seen the Fire Kirin sweeping towards the flames.
