Chapter 94 A United Front of Three People with Two Minds

Scarlet curtains and veils hung from the top of the main hall, wildly scattered by the mountain winds blowing through the windows, like a blood mist, as autumn rain drizzled over the castle.

At this lavish banquet, those who were qualified to attend were all prominent figures at the very top of Japan's social hierarchy. We had already indulged in worldly gains and losses, abandoned base desires, and come here to pursue a higher level of transcendence, following the most primal biological yearnings.

As some of the astrological guests remarked, the moon on this second night was obscured by the shadow of a storm, preventing the gods' gaze from falling upon us. After all, what we were about to do would blaspheme God, or even the devil.

The open space in the middle will serve as the altar for the ceremony. If the gift passed down by my beloved mother comes true, tonight will be a night that will be forever recorded in history and change the fate of the world.

One of my head maids pushed open the side door and came to my side. I glanced at the clock, somewhat puzzled; it wasn't yet the time I had instructed. So I condescended to whisper in her ear the change:

"...Brother Kuromon, Brother Kuromon."

"Brother Heimen, wake up!"

Haruya Kuromon opened his eyes and abruptly sat up in bed, instinctively lunging at the dark figure beside his ear. Fortunately, he regained his senses quickly, and his chop only grazed Conan's cheek.

He casually picked up the Grim Reaper clinging to the edge of the bed and placed him beside him. Kuromon Haruya rubbed his sleepy eyes.

"What? It's you, Shinichi."

Conan touched his cheek and suddenly felt that he didn't need to come and remind him.

If Butber dares to disturb the sleeping Black Gate, he could probably be executed on the spot!

"What do you need me for?" Kuromon Haruya yawned, looking at the bright moon outside the window. "Huh? How come it's already night? Did I sleep for so long?"

He wrapped a blanket around Conan, who was shivering from the cold, and poured hot water from the thermos next to the bed, rewarding Conan for his care with his actions.

He originally only intended to use the opportunity to install a patch on his main body and send some information, which is why he deliberately mentioned those solo scenes through the bugging device.

Unexpectedly, this kid has a conscience. When he heard that he was in danger, he was willing to give up the investigation of the organization and hurriedly asked Professor Agasa to drive back to Tokyo Beika!

To catch up with them, Kuromon Haruya specially rode his spare motorcycle from the Shizuoka base, practically hovering along the road at breakneck speed. What would normally be a three-hour drive was completed in just over an hour thanks to his reckless riding!

Then I had a nightmare that lasted for two hours.

"Hey, I've found a clue about the organization!" Conan looked alertly towards the door.

It's past the hospital visiting hours now. He sneaked in alone, taking advantage of his child form. The doctor and Ai Haibara are waiting in the car downstairs: "You're in danger right now. Ai Haibara and I tracked him to Vermouth's safe house and overheard that a member codenamed Butterbeer wants to secretly replace you and use your identity to carry out missions."

"Wait." Kuromon Haruya gestured for Conan to be quiet as his voice grew louder, then pointed outside the door, signaling him to pay attention to the nurses making their rounds: "Explain everything to me one by one."

Conan waved his hand knowingly: "I've already checked the room. There are no listening devices, and the door was locked beforehand."

Since his own side could plant eavesdroppers to obtain intelligence, the organization could do the same; he was still aware of this counter-surveillance technique!

Having finally found an opportunity to turn the tables on the organization, Conan excitedly explained the current situation to everyone.

But Kuromon Haruya seemed to be considering something, remaining silent for a long time before finally pinching her brow in confusion and asking:

"You mean, the little girl Mr. Fanze picked up is Sherry, a member of the organization that developed the shrinking drug?"

“Shinichi, this could also be a trap.” Kuromon Haruya held Conan’s shoulders, his heart filled with complicated emotions. “Just as you said, her attitude of cooperation is not sincere, and she also has an absolute information gap regarding the organization. Moreover, judging from your experience today, there are too many coincidences.”

It just so happened that he appeared at the exact moment he was injured, and when he retrieved the clues about the organization, he happened to encounter the murder case and the organization members, and then he overheard the mission—it was almost like a dramatic destiny, and anyone who heard it would doubt it.

With Haruya Kuromon's intervention, Conan did not get to see Akemi Miyano on her deathbed, nor did he etch her desperate struggle into his heart, thus naturally lacking a layer of lingering resentment.

Ai Haibara hadn't realized that, influenced by the organization's atmosphere, her own words and actions also carried a mystical air. Their time together had been far too brief; she hadn't even witnessed Conan solving a case firsthand, let alone developed any trust in him enough to reveal more information.

Therefore, Conan readily accepts the theory of suspicion surrounding Kuromon Haruya: "That's what I think too. However, it's unlikely that she's colluding with the organization to put on an act. After all, if Gin really wanted to find an opportunity to silence us, he could have just blown us up like he did with the Shinkansen."

"She probably has extra information and is using this as an excuse to get me to help investigate."

Poor Shirley, after losing her only family member, she still has to be doubted and rejected. I feel sorry for her, even as a boss.

However, Conan using Gin as a basis for his reasoning was something he hadn't expected.

Kuromon Haruya: There's something strange about his style of doing things that's so distinctive that it gives outsiders a sense of pride!

Seeing his comrade's awareness, he patted Conan's head with satisfaction, not forgetting to remind him, "She must have her own purpose in changing your death record. Always put yourself first, Great Detective!"

Conan understood what he meant: even if you're on the same side, you have to be careful not to be used as a pawn.

Beep—whoosh—beep—whoosh—

The sirens of the police cars grew louder as they approached, eventually stopping outside the wall of the general hospital, casting a red and blue glow on the leaves of the trees outside the window.

Conan and Haruya Kuromon exchanged a glance, vaguely guessing the reason.

Sure enough, after a few unclear exchanges, the sound of a large number of people walking in the corridor could be heard.

knock knock.

There was a knock on the VIP ward door, followed by a soft call: "Mr. Kuromon, would you mind opening the door for me?"

Haruya Kuromon recognized the voice as that of the head nurse on duty, but upon closer listening, she could detect other heavy breathing sounds in the background.

"Wait a moment." He replied, while having Conan hide in the cabinet behind the door in a blind spot to assist him.

Wearing a thick knitted cardigan, Yoru Kurokawa, leaning on his cane, arrived at the door.

"Inspector Megure?" He glanced around at the officers waiting outside the door, then looked at his old acquaintance with a puzzled expression. "Has something happened?"

Upon seeing that Kuromon Haruya was unharmed, Inspector Megure finally breathed a sigh of relief and said, "A murder has occurred at this hospital, and we need your cooperation in the investigation, Mr. Kuromon."

"Your attending physician, Mitsuo Shirai, was found drowned in the public restroom pool ten minutes ago."
