Chapter 83: Playing Big
The fourth generation of the Kuroba family consists of three people: their father and two younger sisters. Kuroba Michi is the youngest.
Yusaku Kudo didn't have a strong impression of this woman.
Throughout his childhood, his mother, as if adhering to some taboo from an old era, rarely mentioned anything about her ex-husband. Most of the information about the Kuroba family was pieced together by him from snippets of conversation.
"She was a woman who did things her own way and was crazy."
He recalled that during a casual conversation, Mrs. Kudo commented: "She severed ties with her family to be with her lover, but her materialistic boyfriend thought she had no more value in dating and ruthlessly abandoned her."
Deeply affected by that experience, she began a solitary life.
The last time I heard from her was six years ago when I received her funeral invitation, which was delayed due to a transportation accident.
Yusaku Kudo shook his head: "I have very little contact with this side. When my mother was still in good health, she would read and burn the letters my father sent her."
"That's right."
Mentioning his parents' broken and troubled marriage, Toichi Kuroba also felt melancholy. However, after so many years, he has long since come to terms with it.
"Did you suddenly mention Kuromon Haruya because you discovered some clue?"
“I suspect he is in contact with the organization, and to a considerable extent.”
Yusaku Kudo leaned heavily back in his chair and laid out all the information and data he currently possessed.
"Based on Shinichi's initial impression, he would have shown obvious panic when he witnessed the death or accidentally injured someone."
But within just a few months, he underwent a dramatic transformation; something must have happened in between.
Recalling that night, when the knife, carrying a chilling murderous intent, flashed a silver light and struck him squarely between the eyebrows, he still felt lingering fear.
The blunt-edged knife, through the force of the wrist, was able to leave a half-centimeter groove on his hard mask!
The determination to take another's life is something that cannot be confused once you've experienced it firsthand!
“Hiss…” Kuroba Touichi picked up the mask he had placed there and gasped.
The pristine white mask appears intact, but upon closer inspection under the light, a subtle detail emerges—a fine line extends vertically from the inscription at the center of the brow, dividing the mask into left and right sections.
It's important to know that this mask was developed by a genius inventor in Japan using special materials at Yusaku's request!
Kuroba Toichi examined the booklet of documents his younger brother had printed, stroking his chin hesitantly:
"But from your description, apart from unexpectedly accepting a commission from the organization, he never seemed to have expressed any malice towards Shinichi."
Unexpectedly, Kudo Yusaku sighed upon hearing this: "That's the most serious issue right now."
He was willing to sacrifice himself for hostages, and he was willing to kill others to protect Shinichi. So what if one day in the future he makes contact with the organization…?
As a victim of the Italian Mafia, can Haruya Kuromon, who is so righteous, really turn a blind eye?
Kuroba Touichi understood the unspoken meaning in his words and fell into deep thought.
He didn't have much contact with Yoya Kuromon. One time was at the banquet where Michi Kuroba invited relatives and friends to witness his adoption, and the other time was at his funeral six years ago, when he looked at him from afar through the guests.
They had no way of knowing whether or when Yoruichi Kuromon had re-established contact with the main family.
But if Yusaku's guess comes true, it means that this young man with a troubled life is planning to take the path of fighting against the organization.
The blood ties to the organization seem to be luring every related descendant deeper and deeper into the quagmire.
Kuroba Toichi, the elder brother, was the first to break the silence. He turned his back and recalled another old story.
Eight years ago, during the escape magic show, he was murdered. If it weren't for Gin's timely rescue, he would have been seriously injured, if not killed.
Such a timely rescue suggests that the organization may appear to be allowing each group to develop freely, while in reality secretly monitoring them.
Given this premise, it was Gin who saved him, and it was also Gin who attacked Shinichi and forced him to take the drugs. How likely is the latter to be an accident?
"I will use the excuse of sorting through old things to go back to Tottori Prefecture to do some research in a while."
Kuroba Toichi did not disclose this matter, but instead continued the previous topic to give a reply.
"Regarding Shinichi, I think it's best not to act rashly. I'll go and test the organization's attitude first."
Kudo Yusaku met his gaze for a few seconds, then burst into laughter, abandoning his previous respectful attitude and smirking as he reached out to put his arm around his shoulder, exuding confidence and arrogance.
"I am Yusaku Kudo, a world-class detective! It's not certain who will win this chase."
He could see that something seemed to be hidden behind his brother's poker face, but so what? The tacit understanding between the twins could not be severed even after more than ten years of separation!
Black Feather Dao crossed his arms, chuckled softly, picked up the cracked Dark Night Baron mask from the table, and put it on his face, letting out a series of sinister laughs:
"Hehehe, let's talk about that after you stop the Phantom Thief Crow!"
Without their wives' supervision, the two brothers, who were already quite adventurous, went all out and started playing cops and convicts in the study.
...
Unlike his younger relatives who are enjoying a happy family life, Haruya Kuromon, the boss of the organization and the eldest member of the family, is huddled in the back seat of a Porsche, listening to Vodka's criminal lessons under Gin's murderous gaze.
All of this stemmed from a casual question Gin asked after arriving at Masami Hirota's residence.
"You performed well in your previous missions. However, this mission must be carried out covertly, as some of Hirota Masami's researcher friends still have cooperative relationships with the organization."
His long silver hair bristled with static electricity at the tail, and Gin's interest visibly increased when the keywords "researcher" were mentioned: "If the movements are too obvious, they'll frighten these guinea pigs that live peacefully in the lab..."
The background audio gradually faded, leaving only the cold smile on Gin's lips in the center of Kuromon Haruya's vision.
Gin has grown into a handsome and reliable adult. I'm so touched.
When Yoruichi Kuromon saw his bright and cheerful smile, he felt as if he too was immersed in the same joy.
That's wonderful; people should live for their own hobbies.
People like Gin who enjoy shooting, Vermouth who enjoys acting, and Rum who enjoys working are all doing meaningful things!
"Butbel".
Gin glanced at Haruya Kuromon, who had suddenly drifted off into thought for some reason, suppressed his displeasure, and inexplicably offered a suggestion: "Sogrid taught you about the principles of organizational operations, didn't he?"
Of course not, would Kurokawa Kagemitsu dare to teach him how to do things?
Despite thinking this in her heart, Kuromon Haruya still cooperated fully on the surface: "Of course."
However, faced with this inexplicable inspiration, Gin decided to pursue it to the end: "Oh? Which chapters did he teach?"
Chapters? Does the organization even have a textbook on how to become an assassin through self-study?
For so many years, the organization has been completely left to its own devices. Not to mention the code of conduct, even the performance of Kuromon Haruya has never been concerned with missions or results!
Wiping away the non-existent cold sweat in his mind, Kuromon Haruya recalled his son's style of doing things.
Since Gin is recognized as a model worker in the organization, his every word and action must be the organization's code of conduct, so flattering him is definitely the right thing to do!
Thinking this way, he replied confidently:
"Act according to instinct and mission requirements; if exposed, use weapons of mass destruction to clean up the mess."
"... "
For a fleeting moment, Kuromon Haruya seemed to see Gin's cold expression twist for a brief instant, but upon closer inspection, it was still that murderous look.
Gin, the model worker himself, who was being targeted by his subordinates' sarcastic remarks, lit another cigarette and calmly gave the order:
“Vodka, go to the back row. I’ll give you half an hour to memorize all the content.”
