Chapter 31 How about we go on a team building trip together?
"You are finally here."
The shimmering light on her swaying skirt revealed Vermouth's unusual attire: a jet-black fishtail gown. Her steps were mysterious and light.
Small crystal-like beads clung to her body, making her resemble a water goddess emerging from a dark pool, a graceful black dhara flower blooming amidst sin.
Vermouth gathered a stray strand of hair behind her ear and curled her lips, which were adorned with black lipstick, into a smile: "Butbelle, I heard from Gin that you filmed that little girl's tragic end, right?"
Ordinary people cannot escape her charms, and Kuromon Haruya is no exception.
Kuromon Haruya: As expected of the daughter I raised, she's so beautiful!
He relaxed his brow and slowly took out a file folder from his briefcase: "I also printed out the photos of the task records. Take them if you want to see them."
Vermouth gazed into his gentle and focused eyes, her smile deepening: "It's rare to find such a considerate gentleman in the organization."
"You agree, right, Gin?"
Kuromon Haruya turned around following her gaze, almost bumping into Gin who was standing quietly behind her. Seeing his unfriendly expression, she quickly looked down at the ground.
Oh no, my son caught me favoring girls over boys.
Gin snorted coldly, without making a sound: "You've passed the test. From today onwards, you'll be under the command of the Operations Department."
"Okay, big brother!"
Fearing that his words might not satisfy Gin, Kuromon Haruya quickly added a 90-degree bow, setting a perfect example of a subordinate.
"Pfft—hahahahahahahahaha."
Sogrid burst out laughing, clutching his stomach and leaning on Bourbon's shoulder, unable to stop laughing.
Bourbon, holding the remote video recorder Rum had given him, found it inconvenient to vent his anger on these high-ranking officials, but he felt that everyone in the organization was seriously ill.
"Go over there and help the other two move the body."
Gin couldn't understand why Butbel, who was quite clever during the assessment, seemed so dull-witted now. Could it be because he'd been spending too much time with vodka?
Kuromon Haruya looked at Gin's sour face with satisfaction, then, knowing when to stop, handed over the photo set to the boss and went to a corner to meet up with his two partners.
"Guinness, Vienna, what are your results?"
Fanzawa Masato's eyes lit up: "I've successfully entered the intelligence department!"
Asagi nodded in agreement: "I've joined the Operations Department."
"Huh?" Kuromon Haruya was a little surprised. He originally thought that Gin's actions today would dispel Asano Minoru's idea.
"Because the Action Department can deal with the guys selling those things themselves..."
Asagi didn't finish his sentence, but the two people who had spoken with him understood what he meant.
Kuromon Haruya looked at Hanzawa, who had been excluded, and said, "Guinness, if you feel lonely over there, you can come and find us."
Fanze Zhenren scratched his head, his bald face seemingly filled with confusion: "Speaking of which, this is the first time I've been told that my job is to spend money extravagantly? Is this some new bait mission?"
Asagi Minori agreed, while Kuromon Haruya remained silent for a moment, silently calculating the list of officials to be held accountable this month.
After taking stock of the onlookers, Gin and Sogrid led the way, with Vermouth and Bourbon in the middle, Vodka bringing up the rear, and the three beer-bottles pushing the surgical trolley covered with a white sheet at the very back, as they entered the research institute.
The research institute where Shiho Miyano works is a special building built by the organization specifically for her; the entire building exists solely to support her research.
This means that if Shiho Miyano goes on strike or engages in passive or perfunctory research, the entire building's research resources will be wasted.
Gin and Vermouth knew this very well, which is why they treated Sherry even worse.
The researchers, who had been informed of the work stoppage, lined up inside the laboratory, peering at them curiously through the glass partition.
Fanze Zhenren shrank back into the group to avoid being looked at: "I always feel like these people are looking at us like they're looking at a graduation thesis."
Fanze Zhenren was right. Those who could become internal members would all be physically fit, making them very suitable for human experimentation.
Shiho Miyano frowned as she looked at the large group of people who had arrived. "Gin, what are you all doing here?"
Vermouth stepped forward, lifted her chin, and teased her with no attempt to hide her malice: "Just dropping by to deliver some new experimental material. Aren't you welcome, little kitty?"
Shiho Miyano turned her face away and took a few steps back, her disgust mixed with fear: "Then I'll go do the experiment."
"Don't go, I promise you won't regret it."
Vermouth pulled several close-up photos in crimson from the file folder and tossed them onto the lab table.
Shiho Miyano caught a glimpse of those vibrant patches of color and instinctively felt uneasy.
Instead of immediately going to check, she looked up and stared intently at the expressions of these harbinger crows: expectation, schadenfreude, pity, indifference, and apology.
Something really bad must have happened.
This was a Pandora's box that had to be opened. Shiho Miyano took a deep breath and picked up the photograph.
Vermouth smiled radiantly, pointing to Haruya Kuromon: "Isn't it beautiful? This was taken by Butbell, I'm even a little envious~"
That was the last thing she heard clearly; Shiho Miyano could not remember what happened or what she did afterward.
A strange and piercing scream burst from her throat, tears streaming down her face. The men in black exuded a chilling malice, Butbel was being grabbed by the collar and looked panicked, and her sister lay lifeless in the stroller.
"Put her in an isolation room and take proper protective measures."
Gin, still enjoying himself, looked at Sherry, who had fainted from crying on Miyano Akemi's body, and gave instructions to the security personnel waiting nearby.
Fanze Zhenren stepped forward with concern: "Are you alright, Black, Butbell?"
Sherry's sudden outburst startled the three of them. Her grief-stricken state was heartbreaking to witness, let alone Mr. Kuromon's.
He and Mr. Aso agreed to join the organization because they each had their own goals for revenge. Mr. Kuromon was different; although he also wanted to get rid of Shinichi Kudo, he didn't truly hate him deeply.
"I'm fine. I'll have to face this kind of thing someday." Kuromon Haruya smiled wistfully, looking at Hanzawa Masato and Asano Minami, who were accepting the situation well, and felt relieved.
Thanks to the arrival of the power of science, people are now much more accepting of killing than they were a decade or so ago.
After all, when you calculate the actual frequency, there are three or four cases happening around you every day. You have to get used to it, even if you don't like it.
"Oh dear, she fainted just like that? I thought she could hold on longer."
Vermouth walked up to Boben and tapped the remote camera in his hand: "Rum, it's such a shame you're not getting to see it for yourself."
The processed electronic voice came from the instrument: "In your words, the secret makes the wine taste better."
Vermouth recalled Rum's true form as an old man, her face darkening with disappointment. She snorted and turned to leave: "Then the job of cleaning up behind the scenes is left to you."
Gin and Sugrid exchanged a glance. The former led the way, while the latter directed the security personnel to take the cart, received "Rum" from Amuro Tooru, and headed deeper into the research institute.
Bourbon and the beer trio stared at each other silently in the messy laboratory.
Kuromon Haruya tentatively greeted him, "Bourbon, now that the mission is over, would you like to join us for a team-building activity at an izakaya?"
This is a good opportunity to investigate the true identities of the three, but Furuya Rei is more concerned about the sudden disappearance of his subordinates during the day. According to the plan, the police should have provided cover when he kidnapped Miyano Akemi.
"No. I advise you to be careful too. The organization is not a game."
There was no light in his purplish-gray pupils, only coldness.
Once Bourbon had walked away and they could no longer overhear his conversation, the three beer-loving friends huddled together and discussed it in hushed tones.
Haruya Kuromon: "But didn't Mr. Sogrid say that joining the organization is like being a member of a large family?"
Asagi Minami: "Mr. Bourbon seems difficult to get along with."
Fanze Zhenren expressed his doubts: "But if he dislikes us, there's no need to remind him deliberately."
"That is to say..."
Kuromon/Hanzawa/Aso: "Bourbon is a tsundere!"
