Chapter 101 The Dumpling Murder Case in Chinatown (2)
Before you even get close, familiar shouts and congratulations drift over. On the antique-style plaque, the three large gilded characters "Zhonghua Street" in traditional regular script shimmer in the sunlight, exuding a powerful sense of unity.
The streets and alleys are decorated with lanterns and colorful streamers. Amidst the constant flow of people, a few figures dressed in Hanfu and cheongsam occasionally flash by, highlighting the differences between Chinese and Japanese fashion styles. Looking up, various signs are arranged in an orderly fashion, with Chinese characters dominating the scene. The lanterns, unchanged throughout the year, have faded somewhat from wind and rain and will only be replaced when the Spring Festival arrives.
"I didn't expect it to be so lively this morning!"
Kuromon Haruya looked around curiously at the street full of local flavor, somewhat surprised.
The Japanese celebrate New Year according to the Gregorian calendar, with January 1st being their New Year's Day, and New Year's Eve dinner on December 31st. Since it wasn't his own New Year, he had thought there would only be a dumpling-making competition today, but he hadn't expected it to be so lively!
Time has passed, and the world today has many similarities in its historical development, but it is ultimately not the one he was familiar with. Apart from occasionally using his organization to intercept smuggled guns and medicines into the country, or providing external assistance such as foreign trade security, Heimen Yaoye has rarely come into contact with anything related to his homeland in recent years, so as not to be left with a heart full of unresolved homesickness.
"Wow, that's amazing! It's like something out of a movie!"
Fanzawa Masato, holding a huge stack of flyers, exclaimed in surprise as he pushed his wheelchair.
"There are so many Chinese characters! I can only understand a small portion. Mr. Kuromon, can you understand them?"
Kuromon Haruya gazed at the couplet inscribed with ancient poetry and shook his head: "I have some Chinese blood, but I haven't systematically studied Chinese."
Professor Agasa/Hanze: "Eh! Chinese blood?"
"Didn't I say that?" Kuromon Haruya turned his head, looking at the two generals beside him with a puzzled expression.
“My mother is Japanese and my father is of Italian and Chinese descent, so I actually have dual Italian and Japanese citizenship. If it weren’t for that, with my savings from my student days, it would have been too difficult to go to study in a foreign country alone.”
"I don't know this for the first time! Is Heimen a mother's surname?"
"No. It's taken from the Japanese name my father registered, Haruto Kuromon."
Since they didn't have to work, the group of them strolled around leisurely, each with their own unique style, attracting the attention of some local residents.
For example, right now, Heimen Yaoye heard two middle-aged women a few meters away making unrestrained comments about foreigners, taking advantage of the fact that they couldn't understand Mandarin.
“Look! That young man in the wheelchair is quite handsome, it’s just a pity he’s disabled, otherwise I would definitely have my niece give him a try.”
"Forget it, look at that mixed-race girl eating a pancake in the back, she's obviously his daughter!"
"The young man pushing the wheelchair behind is also fine. He's good-looking, but he looks a bit shifty."
"Why are you always thinking about the next generation? Don't you notice that little old man with glasses looks so energetic and cheerful?"
Looking at Kuromon Haruya, who suddenly bent over and clutched his stomach, Hanzawa Masato became concerned and worried:
"Mr. Kuromon, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
It's a pity that if Professor Agasa hadn't accompanied Ai Haibara to buy sugar paintings, that old lady would have really gone up to chat her up!
"It's nothing." Kuromon Haruya gripped the handrail tightly, suppressing a laugh, while feigning embarrassment. "Actually, the aromas on the street were so strong that I got a little hungry."
"The dumpling-making competition is just ahead. If you're hungry, let's go there first! I heard there will be Chinese people giving on-site lessons, and you can even pay to take your homemade dumplings home."
Upon arriving at Chinatown Square, Kuromon Haruya spotted two familiar figures.
At a mahogany square table in the southeast corner of the square, a man and a woman were seen drinking tea and chatting.
The woman on the left is wearing a wine-red high-slit cheongsam and pure black training trousers, paired with a chestnut-colored bun that reaches her ears, looking dashing and heroic; while the man on the right is wearing a Tang suit with a blue background, wearing sunglasses and waving a fan in his hand, giving off a feeling of about to tell a story.
"What's wrong?"
Following his gaze, Fanze Zhenren immediately froze: "Isn't that Chianti and Cohen? I never imagined they were like this in private!"
Kuromon Haruya was also somewhat shocked, but after all, he was an employee he had hired, so he had some idea of what was going on:
"They seem to be dating. Our social identities haven't been made public yet, so let's not disturb them."
"Oh my god, I always thought there were no office romances in the organization..."
Fanze Zhenren looked as if he had found a treasure, took out his phone and started typing, seemingly about to send a message to someone.
Not long after they chose their seats, the host's enthusiastic opening remarks came from loudspeakers in various corners of the square.
The host, dressed as the God of Wealth, congratulated everyone: "Thank you all for coming to the dumpling competition held in Chinatown. Here, you will taste the most authentic Chinese dumplings..."
Behind him stood a tall, gray-haired beauty. Her cheongsam, which just reached her knees, accentuated her perfect figure. Her every smile and gesture drew gasps of admiration from the middle-aged men in the audience.
"As our special guest this year, we have also invited Ms. Pu Siqinglan, an expert on the Romanov dynasty!"
Isn't this the famous international mercenary, Miss Meatball?
Kuromon Haruya's lips curled into a smile, and he pulled Hanzawa Masato, who was struggling with his dough, aside, and whispered a reminder:
“I’ve seen it in the mission information Gin gave me. That Pu Siqinglan is actually an assassin wanted by Interpol, specializing in collecting Romanov dynasty artifacts and treasures around the world. His code name is ‘Scorpion’.”
And, he is suspected to be a member of the group that is pursuing Pandora.
After pondering for a moment, Master Fanze enthusiastically proposed:
"Should we kidnap her and hand her over to the organization for their mission? Mr. Black Gate, you're injured and can't move around easily. Should I go and call Chianti and the others for help?"
He still remembered that after kidnapping Tachibana Maya, handing her over had canceled out several mission targets! This was even after angering Gin and having his rewards withheld!
Fanze Zhenren couldn't imagine how much they could earn if they worked together to kidnap this internationally wanted criminal! The rewards they had received from previous missions had all gone towards Bomei Taro's toiletries, food, and health checkups and beauty treatments.
"..."
As a newcomer, aren't you being a little too accepting of the organization?
Kuromon Haruya silently glanced at Hanze; he was quite unaccustomed to having such a considerate member of the organization.
"Let's forget it. Most of these famous people have their own factions, and I'm afraid Gin might shoot us both if we make enemies with them."
“Oh, right…” Fan Ze lowered his head dejectedly and continued to knead the dough.
On stage, Pu Siqinglan smiled at Chianti, who was filled with murderous intent below the stage, and mouthed the words in the air:
"Long time no see, Swallowtail (the butterfly that has been phased out)."
