The Book Soul Chronicles: Godslayer

Chapter 4 First Meeting with Yu Bingwen

Within the bamboo forest, sword light flashed, dazzling like a rainbow piercing the sun. Sharp sword energy intertwined into a net, spreading outwards with an invincible momentum.

Each sword aura carried boundless power, as if it would tear this world apart. However, the resilient green bamboo did not succumb to this power. They stubbornly resisted the impact of the sword aura. Although they were bent outwards by the impact of the sword aura, they still stood firm.

In the center of the bamboo forest, a man dressed in a bamboo-patterned Taoist robe and wearing a bamboo-leaf glass hairpin is wielding a sharp sword, dancing with unrestrained skill. His movements are agile and nimble, his swordsmanship skillful and exquisite, each strike accompanied by a powerful sword intent, captivating all who behold him.

The sword was about two feet and one inch long, its blade forged from black iron, thin as paper, and emitting a faint cold light.

A golden dragon is carved on the hilt, lifelike and displaying unparalleled majesty. The blade is extremely sharp, as if it could cut through everything in the world, truly deserving the description "a blade as sharp as autumn frost".

After finishing his sword dance, the man gently flicked his wrist, sheathing his sword, and then walked gracefully toward the sect leader, Qingfeng.

His figure was as elegant and composed as the green bamboo swaying in the wind, as if he had become one with the bamboo forest.

The man had striking features: sharp eyebrows, bright eyes, a straight nose, and thin lips. He was handsome and dashing, with an otherworldly air about him.

He wore a flowing robe painted with ink wash patterns, his robes billowing, making him appear like an immortal descending to earth. In his hand he held an incomparably sharp sword, its blade gleaming with a cold light that sent chills down one's spine.

"Disciple greets Master," Qingfeng said with a perfunctory bow, then nodded slightly and gestured for him to rise.

Qingfeng said, "Your swordsmanship has improved a lot, but your moves just now were too weak. Are you troubled by something?"

Without hesitation, Yu Bingwen explained the reason: "Yes, Master. When I went to Lingze to investigate, I passed through a village."

Yu Bingwen recalls...

At first, I noticed that the village was filled with demonic and monster energy, so I disguised myself as an injured mortal and entered the village with the intention of slaying the demons and protecting the villagers.

The villagers were very kind. When they saw that I was injured, they took me into the village without hesitation and gave me treatment to the best doctor in the village.

The physician who treated me was actually a fox demon whose cultivation had reached the Nascent Soul stage! My disciple was secretly on guard; if he dared to harm me, I would make sure he bled on the spot!

However, it turned out that my worries were unnecessary. The fox demon not only treated my wounds diligently, but also took meticulous care of me for a long time.

Later, when I told the villagers who saved me about it, they were very calm and comforted me, saying that I didn't need to be afraid of the doctor.

It turns out that he was transformed from a fox demon, and the people in this village had long been accustomed to the phenomenon of humans and demons living together in the same room.

Hearing this, I was quite surprised. After all, the relationship between the three races had always been tense, even considered mortal enemies. How could there be such a harmonious scene?

But in this village, everything seems to have changed. Here, demon men can become teachers; children of humans, demons, and monsters can study and play happily in the same school; and human women will invite demon and monster women who have not yet fully taken human form to go to the stream to wash clothes.

Gradually, I began to love this peaceful and beautiful life. In this place, everyone maintains a pure heart; there is no conflict, deception, or harm among them. It's like a paradise, a place that captivates the soul.

They even named the village Anle Village. Watching these rescued humans living happily, a question arose in my mind: our mission as cultivators is supposed to be to subdue demons and monsters, but is doing this really the right thing to do? This question lingered in my mind for a long time.

Just before I was about to leave, someone broke in when the barrier was at its weakest, intending to kill all the villagers.

The man who led the attack was the very person the villagers had saved from his senior brother. Now, driven by his own selfish desires, he returned with the very people who had once tried to kill him, and slaughtered all the innocent villagers.

I witnessed firsthand the greed and cruelty that gleamed in their eyes. They not only injured the demons protecting the villagers but also brutally murdered defenseless humans. They muttered that the humans deserved their fate, accusing them of colluding with outsiders. However, the truth was far from the truth.

Master, those villagers did not commit any wrongdoing; they only wished to live a peaceful and happy life. But those who should have been protecting all living beings were only thinking about how to shatter their dreams, completely lacking the magnanimity to allow both humans and other races to coexist.

Later, I couldn't bear to watch a massacre unfold before my eyes and remain indifferent. I knew their greedy nature was incorrigible, and if these people weren't killed, the villagers would surely be plunged into danger again.

So, I resolutely unleashed the power of my domain, annihilating them all without leaving a trace. Before they died, I even forced them to reveal that they hadn't told anyone else about this place.

After I completely destroyed their bodies, the barrier broke. If they were discovered at this point, the villagers would surely face certain death.

Therefore, I did not hesitate to completely erase Anle Village and used the power of the domain to bring the villagers to a new place.

There, I used the ancient fragments of the array I had acquired and, through ingenious modifications, created a brand-new array that combined a super-powerful defensive array with an array for concealing one's aura, in order to hide and protect Anle Village.

"Master, I don't know if doing this is the right thing to do." After saying this, Yu Bingwen showed a bitter smile.

Qingfeng listened quietly to him finish speaking, and after a moment of silence, asked softly, "Bingwen, have you ever thought about why we embarked on this path of cultivation? Is it merely to pursue immortality and fame and fortune?"

Upon hearing this, Yu Bingwen fell into deep thought. After a while, he slowly replied, "Cultivators naturally strive to subdue demons and monsters, maintain peace in the world, and protect all living beings."

Qingfeng nodded, indicating his agreement with his disciple's words, but then pressed on, "So, how do you think we should define 'demon' and 'monster'? And who exactly are the 'common people' we are supposed to protect?" With that, he gazed quietly at Yu Bingwen, awaiting his answer.

Yu Bingwen fell into deep thought again, various images and thoughts constantly surfacing in his mind.

He recalled the poor people he had witnessed, who lived in hardship yet remained kind; he also recalled the wicked monsters who cruelly harmed innocent lives.

Time ticked by, but Qingfeng never interrupted Yu Bingwen's thoughts. Finally, after a long internal struggle, Yu Bingwen suddenly realized something, and looked at Qingfeng with a determined gaze, as if he had found the answer.

At this moment, Qingfeng knew that he understood, and said with a smile: "Cangsheng refers to all living beings living in this world, including not only humans but also other races such as demons and monsters."

"People always assume that protecting all living beings is protecting humanity because of the strength of their own race, but they forget that they are just a part of all living beings, just one of the millions of creatures that are blessed by the heavens."

"Exorcising demons is just a means of maintaining balance. Many people will die on this path, some good and some bad. But there is no absolute good or bad in this world. All we can do is weigh whether it is worth it or not."

As Yu Bingwen listened to Qingfeng's words, he suddenly felt as if a window had been opened in his heart, and the problems that had been troubling him seemed to have been solved.

Yes, the common people are not just humans, but also other living beings. The path I pursue should not be limited to the interests of humanity, but should take into account the well-being of all living beings. Thinking of this, Yu Bingwen felt a subtle change in his state of mind, as if a clear spring had flowed through his heart, making his soul clearer and more transparent.

He looked at Qingfeng with gratitude, his eyes filled with respect and appreciation. Qingfeng smiled and patted him on the shoulder, showing understanding and support. Yu Bingwen took a deep breath, feeling an unprecedented sense of ease and relief.

He decided to let go of his past obsessions and re-examine his path of spiritual practice, viewing all things in the world with a broader perspective. From this moment on, he would no longer be bound by racial boundaries, but would treat every life with an inclusive heart.

Qingfeng watched as Yu Bingwen's aura grew stronger and stronger, and sensed his change, so he continued, "To make a piece of paper stand up on a table, you must fold it in half. A piece of paper has two sides, and they need to be of equal area. Isn't the world the same?"

"Yin and Yang give rise to two polarities; where there is evil, there must be good. Only by maintaining the balance between the two and never allowing either one to dominate can this world continue to exist."

"Whether it's killing people, slaying demons, or exterminating monsters, as long as you believe that doing so is in the best interests of the people, that you can live with your conscience, that you can take responsibility for your actions, and that you make the right judgments and choices, then everything you do is right. There's no need to doubt yourself; just trust your inner feelings."

As Qingfeng finished speaking, a powerful force of the Great Dao suddenly surged from Yu Bingwen's body. He seemed to be immersed in a wondrous state, and his understanding of all things in the world suddenly became more profound and unique. His eyes became firm and confident, and his face was filled with the joy of enlightenment.

Just then, Yu Bingwen's cultivation level underwent an astonishing breakthrough, and he stepped into the Integration Stage in one fell swoop! At the same time, his state of mind was also greatly improved, freeing him from his previous confusion and bewilderment, and giving him a higher level of understanding.

Seeing the changes in Yu Bingwen, Qingfeng sighed inwardly. He knew that Yu Bingwen had completed a significant transformation, and from now on, he would face future challenges with even greater strength.

Furthermore, his natal sword has developed a closer connection with him, and even shows signs of giving birth to a sword spirit.

After being baptized by the power of the Great Dao, his sensitivity to the world became stronger, and he even felt a strange feeling welling up in his heart, as if a feeling of compassion for all living beings was being revealed.

This feeling confused Yu Bingwen, yet it also felt very familiar, as if he had experienced similar emotions before. He closed his eyes, carefully sensing this strange feeling, trying to find its source.

After some thought, Yu Bingwen finally understood. It turned out that this strange feeling stemmed from the deep compassion within him. During his cultivation, he gradually came to realize the preciousness and fragility of life, and began to care for those suffering beings.

This compassion was not a sign of weakness or excessive sympathy, but rather a higher level of awareness. When he realized this, a powerful force surged within him.

After a long while, Yu Bingwen slowly opened his eyes, and his demeanor suddenly underwent a tremendous change. He not only exuded a subtle sense of oppression, but also a detached and otherworldly feeling.

A hint of compassion flickered in his once cold and indifferent eyes, inspiring awe in all who beheld him. At this moment, Yu Bingwen appeared even more sacred, like an inviolable deity.

Seeing the changes in Yu Bingwen, Sect Leader Qingfeng nodded repeatedly with delight and said with satisfaction, "Not bad, you have already grasped the initial stage of the Dao Heart Clarity Realm. Continue to cultivate diligently, and I believe you will definitely become an outstanding cultivator in the future."

Hearing the praise from Sect Leader Qingfeng, Yu Bingwen was moved to tears. He knew that all of this was inseparable from Sect Leader Qingfeng's careful teaching and guidance. Without his help, he would never have been able to break through the bottleneck and reach his current level.

Therefore, Yu Bingwen respectfully bowed to the sect leader Qingfeng to express his gratitude and said that he would definitely work harder to live up to the sect leader Qingfeng's expectations.

"Your comprehension is naturally high; it's only a matter of time before you grasp the true principles of the Dao. I am merely your guide, leading you towards that broad road. The rest of the long journey is up to you to walk," Qingfeng said to Yu Bingwen.

"This disciple will certainly not let Master down and will definitely forge my own path!"

Qingfeng looked satisfied, then said seriously, "Bingwen, I know you are upright and loyal, which are very rare qualities. However, you still need more experience and training."

"The era you are in now is the most stable and prosperous period in the cultivation world. And the Dao Sect you belong to provides excellent protection for you disciples. Although you have a special background and experience, and may be able to understand the evil in human nature, that is only in the human world. The cultivation world here is a world full of struggle and contention."

"In this world, people fight each other because of greed and desire, even at the cost of harming others. When it comes to vying for resources, treasures, and life, everyone will do anything to pursue their own interests. Only the strong can survive here, while the weak are as insignificant as ants. And those geniuses who have no background but do not know how to hide their strength are often nipped in the bud and lose the opportunity to grow."

"So, my disciple, you must learn to adapt to this environment and not easily trust others. At the same time, you must always be vigilant and constantly improve your strength. Remember, only by becoming stronger can you survive in this cruel world," Qingfeng said earnestly.

"Compared to this, you are fortunate to have the opportunity to become my disciple and have a strong support. But this world is far beyond your understanding. Young birds will eventually leave the nest and fly high, and it is time for you to go out and explore."

"I trust your decisiveness, but the human heart is always complex, and human nature is not to be trifled with. Don't easily trust anyone other than yourself. When faced with a choice, you must first consider yourself and have an accurate understanding of yourself in order to survive and make the most accurate judgment."

“Disciple understands. From now on, I will be more careful in my actions and will only consider matters within Bingwen’s capabilities,” Yu Bingwen replied earnestly.

No sooner had he finished speaking than Sect Leader Qingfeng received a message and hurriedly left, instructing Yu Bingwen to be prepared to go to the mortal realm at any time before he left!
