The Book Soul Chronicles: Godslayer

Chapter 197 The Road Ahead is Still Long

Ye Ling thought a lot along the way, thinking about her past self, from the carefree and innocent little girl to the resentful, cold, selfish "devil," and then to the girl who tried to understand the world and reintegrate into the community. It all seemed like yesterday, yet it also felt like centuries had passed.

Thinking about her current situation, and then about her father whom she hadn't seen in a long time, Ye Ling wondered what his reaction would be if they met again. The image of her father, whom she hadn't seen in a long time, still lingered in Ye Ling's mind.

She didn't know how he would react when they met again. Would he blame her? After all, she hadn't contacted him in a long time and hadn't fulfilled her responsibilities as a daughter.

Would he look down on her? After all, she was just an ordinary person struggling to survive in this complex society.

Will he still care about her? How she wished her father could give her a warm hug like he did when she was a child, and tell her that everything would be alright.

However, reality often doesn't go as planned. Countless scenarios of their possible meetings flashed through her mind, each one filling her with immense anxiety and unease.

The final image is of the beautiful moments she shared with her grandparents. That long-lost happiness, like warm sunshine, illuminated every corner of her heart.

She still remembers the love hidden in the wrinkles on her grandparents' faces, and how their rough but warm hands always brought her endless comfort.

She felt as if she lived in a loving little world. Her grandparents' doting love was her greatest happiness, and their smiles and warm embraces were her strongest support.

However, when she thought about how long it had been since she had seen them, and how this rare reunion had some ulterior motive, her heart felt as if it had been stabbed by a dull knife, the pain almost suffocating her.

However, as time passed, the trajectory of life quietly changed, and Ye Ling had to face one challenge after another, one unavoidable choice after another, gradually growing up and maturing.

She faced the pressures of complex society and reality all alone.

Only now did Ye Ling truly realize that she had grown up. The pressure of reality and complex interpersonal relationships weighed heavily on her shoulders, making it hard for her to breathe. She had truly entered the adult world.

Sadness, heartache, helplessness, and happiness intertwined, forming a complex emotion that surged like a tidal wave, crashing against her heart. Her heart was filled with contradictions and struggles; she didn't know how to face it all.

Ye Ling had her eyes closed because of motion sickness, so that others wouldn't notice her emotions.

She turned her head toward the window, but dared not open her eyes to see the beautiful scenery receding outside.

The beautiful scenery seemed to mock her weakness; she feared that once she opened her eyes, the sadness and helplessness would flood out like a torrent, uncontrollable.

She could only close her eyes tightly, letting her tears well up in them.

Finally, a tear couldn't help but slide down her cheek, landing on her face, feeling icy cold.

Ye Ling longed to burst into tears and release all her grievances and helplessness.

But she can't!

She knew that once she cried, she might never be able to face all of this with strength again.

She had made countless plans and prepared herself for everything, but when the time came to actually face it, she found herself overwhelmed by endless sorrow, unable to pull herself out.

She didn't know, nor did she understand, whether relationships between people were truly just about mutual exploitation. Why did she feel so distressed when she actually tried to act on what was hidden beneath the facade of peace, even though she knew the true nature of the situation?

Ye Ling kept reassuring herself, telling herself that this was just a necessary part of growing up.

She knew that only by learning to utilize all the connections around her could she climb up step by step and gain a foothold in this complex society.

This is just the first step. Once she takes that first step, she can take countless more until she finds her own path to success. She told herself that for the future, for herself, she must be strong.

Ye Ling didn't dare to open her eyes, and hastily wiped her face, silently erasing the tear stains.

She didn't want others to see her vulnerability, nor did she want others to know about her inner struggles.

She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down.

She knew she had to keep going and couldn't stop here.

The car continued its journey, and Ye Ling continued to ponder. She knew the road ahead was long, and she had a very long time to walk!
