Where does that wicked woman get her conscience?

Chapter 40 The Incident of That Year 3

In the dead of night, one can only imagine what could possibly be moving around in this place, let alone flying in the sky.

"It must be a monster from the snowy region. If you see one in the future, you must stay far away and not shout anymore, understand?" the woman said sternly.

The little boy nodded in agreement, but his gaze remained fixed upwards, his eyes filled with curiosity.

 …

Following the direction the old man indicated, Chi Rong hurried westward. After an unknown amount of time, it finally saw a vast expanse of white snow ahead.

Snowflakes were falling heavily, and even before stepping inside, one could feel a bone-chilling cold.

"Is this the Snow Region?" Chi Rong muttered to himself, then, with a determined look in his eyes, he rushed into it without looking back.

The snow-covered landscape stretched as far as the eye could see, with no rolling hills or any trees or other vegetation, resembling a white desert. The air was thick with falling snow, making it easy to lose one's way.

At the entrance, Chi Rong made a mark with its venom. Its venom is extremely corrosive and will not completely disappear even after hundreds of years, making it the perfect choice for marking.

It makes the same markings every so often, for fear of getting lost and missing its return journey.

It didn't know how long it had been flying. Its whole body was covered with a thick layer of snow, and crystal-clear ice crystals had formed on its roots. Its previously clear mind had become somewhat blurred. In a daze, it couldn't even remember where it came from, where it needed to go, or even who it was.

Shaking its head, a sliver of clarity surged into its mind. Startled, it quickly circulated its internal energy, and a ball of red flame enveloped it, instantly melting the snow and turning it into water droplets that fell down.

As his body temperature returned, the dazed feeling completely disappeared. Chi Rong's eyes were filled with lingering fear. Just as the old man had said, this was a vicious and extremely strange place that could make people lose their senses without them even realizing it!

With this realization, Chi Rong no longer dared to remove the flames enveloping his body.

Suddenly, several dark figures were slowly moving not far ahead, and Chi Rong's speed decreased.

Are those the monsters here? I couldn't sense any of their presence at all just now! Even now that I've seen them with my own eyes, I still can't feel a trace of their aura.

Could those demonic beasts be even more powerful than it? But it's a near-transformation divine beast, and there are very few on the continent that can compare to it. That possibility is unlikely...

Or perhaps those demonic beasts had no aura at all, merely walking corpses without spirits, only shells. Thinking of how he had almost lost his mind just now, Chi Rong became even more certain of this idea.

Time was of the essence, and it didn't have time to think too much. The slowdown was only for a moment before it sped up again and flew over those things.

Just then! It suddenly sensed something rushing towards it from below. Its pupils contracted, its body swayed, and it easily dodged the attack.

Upon closer inspection, I was utterly astonished.

A massive, eight-clawed monster, its body as large as a small mountain, was raising its head and looking at it. Though it was looking, its pupils were pitch black, as lifeless as an abyss, as if it had locked onto a target.

Several of its tentacles were embedded in the snow, with only the tips of the tentacles exposed. The dark shadows that Chi Rong had seen earlier were its tentacles!

Chi Rong was secretly shocked. This was actually a ninth-order demon beast? It really was a demon beast that had lost its divine soul and was just a shell.

Despite missing its target, the eight-clawed beast showed no emotion. Instead, its other tentacles, buried deep in the ground, lashed out! With a strong gust of wind and accompanied by falling snow, they all lashed out at Chi Rong!

The Crimson Serpent's eyes flashed with golden light, and a ball of scorching flame spewed from its mouth, instantly raising the surrounding temperature considerably.

The flames quickly extended along the several tentacles that had been pulled out, burning directly towards the eight-clawed monster's body, but the monster seemed oblivious to pain and continued to attack.

Crimson Fragrance leaped upwards, away from the tentacles that were once again lashing out with flames clinging to it, and then flew deeper into the distance without looking back.

It's likely that the demon beast wandered into this snowy region, got lost, and while searching for a way out, had its soul corrupted by this place, turning it into a walking corpse.

Its flames are no ordinary flames; they could easily incinerate a demonic beast.

Let it be as an end to that monster's painful beastly life.

The snowflakes continued to fall endlessly, and in this snowy land, one could neither distinguish directions nor discern time.

Finally, just as Chi Rong was overwhelmed by exhaustion and about to collapse, a deep blue boundary appeared in its sight.

found it? !

It immediately perked up and its speed increased significantly.

The endless sea and the snowfield were clearly separated. The seawater was deep blue and the surface was calm and still. You could feel the wind blowing, but there was not a single splash.

"This is the sea area beyond the mainland? I've been searching..."

Chi Rong quickly scanned the sea surface and, sure enough, saw a small island floating on the horizon in the distance.

Overjoyed, it was about to leap out when its head slammed hard into something.

With a loud bang, the surrounding space actually trembled.

Chi Rong flicked its tongue and its giant tail tentatively tapped the air in front of it, only to find that an invisible barrier was blocking its way.

"Enchantment?"

Is it a barrier protecting this continent? It circled around for a while, its snake eyes narrowed, and then it turned and returned to the snowy region.

Immediately afterwards, his entire body was enveloped by thick red and white spiritual energy, and like a hawk hunting its prey, he charged towards the barrier!

The surrounding space trembled incessantly with its impact, as if the sky were about to collapse, making people tremble with fear.

After countless collisions, one of the two sharp horns on Chi Rong's head had long since disappeared, leaving only a bloody and mangled wound. The other was broken in half, with blood gushing out. With each collision, the remaining half of the horn was also knocked off, and large chunks of skin were torn off, making it look quite horrifying.

Even so, it did not back down an inch, and finally, during its last impact, a huge crack appeared in the invisible barrier.

The barrier has been broken.

Ignoring its injuries, it lunged into the crack as soon as it appeared. The edges of the crack were as sharp as knife tips, cutting deep gashes into its diamond-like body.

The sky over the sea was unusually dark, even colder than the air in the snowy region. Chi Rong's wounds were pierced by the cold, causing a pain that went deep into his bones. Drops of bright red blood fell into the sea as he flew, staining the blue of the sea surface with a touch of red.

Beneath the deep sea, enormous black shadows opened their eyes and swam swiftly toward the bloodstains on the surface!
