Under the moonlight
Chapter 68 Old Classmate?
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Zhao Meng broke the silence between the two of them first. Huang Meng was startled when she heard his slightly magnetic voice, which was different from before.
"Uh, no, nothing, it's just, um, where's Liang Yuanyuan?" Huang Meng felt her face burning hot. What was she doing just now? She didn't even know when Liang Yuanyuan left, or what she was thinking!
Huang Meng quickly lowered her head, rummaging through the documents in the file box, cursing herself a thousand times in her mind, while forcing herself to remain calm on the surface.
Seeing her practically burying her head in the file box, Zhao Meng smiled slightly. He was quite satisfied with Huang Meng's reaction; at least in her eyes just now, Zhao Meng saw the familiar her from the past, the youthful and innocent her.
"I called you over this afternoon for no other reason than to help Liang Yuanyuan organize some files. You go ahead and do your work, I'll go take a look outside." After saying that, Zhao Meng gave Huang Meng, who was still hanging her head and busy with her hands, a deep look.
Only after the door to the archives room was closed did Huang Meng let out a deep breath, put down the documents she was holding (which she didn't even know what they were), and slowly raised her head. The person was gone.
"Huang Meng, Huang Meng, what are you doing! What are you thinking about?" She slapped her forehead in frustration, looked at the mess she had made of the documents in the file box, sighed, and then began to organize them carefully.
This time she finished organizing quickly, but Zhao Meng's gaze kept replaying in her mind. It seemed that the more she tried to forget, the more deeply his eyes were etched in her mind. Frustrated, Huang Meng tidied up the documents in her hands and went to the conference room.
"Is there any other information to organize?" Liang Yuanyuan was processing the gossip she'd just heard when Huang Meng suddenly walked in, startling her. A little flustered by the arrival of the gossip kingpin, she said somewhat sheepishly, "Um, I... I have some more here, it's just..."
"Should we organize it the same way as before?" Huang Meng took the documents before she could finish speaking.
"Yes, that's right." Liang Yuanyuan looked at Huang Meng, who had a serious expression on her face. What's wrong? Why is she suddenly so serious?
Huang Meng didn't notice the difference in herself; she just wanted to keep herself busy so that she wouldn't think about him.
She even started chatting with other colleagues, asking them if there was anything she could help with, which made her colleagues, who were used to doing their own work, feel quite uncomfortable.
Liang Yuanyuan couldn't stand by and watch her keep "harassing" her other colleagues, so she quickly pulled her to the archives room. "If you want to help, then sort through all these old documents!"
Liang Yuanyuan couldn't bear to watch any longer. With only an hour left before she was about to leave work, she couldn't ignore her colleagues' pleas. Their company never had overtime!
Huang Meng didn't ask what the materials were for; having something to do was better than being idle. She immediately threw herself into organizing the materials, finding that although the work was tedious, it allowed her to temporarily calm her restless mind.
And so, she quietly continued her work alone, while her colleagues outside finally escaped her "harassment" and rushed to finish their tasks. By the time they were supposed to leave, they had all completed their work. They relaxed and began packing up their things to go home. Liang Yuanyuan glanced at the time and prepared to leave as well, but Huang Meng seemed still engrossed in her work.
She was somewhat troubled. She was always the one who stayed behind at the company, and if she didn't move, wouldn't she have to stay too? Liang Yuanyuan watched her colleagues leave the company one by one, and she was very anxious! Their company always managed itself, and their boss wouldn't be watching them all the time. Maybe the boss had already gone home!
Liang Yuanyuan glanced at her watch again; it was already twenty minutes later than her usual time to lock the door after get off work. She looked at Huang Meng, who had been squatting on the ground busy for a while, and after thinking for a moment, she stepped forward and said, "Well, we should go home now. How about we come back to clean up tomorrow?"
Huang Meng suddenly looked up, glancing over Liang Yuanyuan's shoulder at the clock on the wall. "It's already 6:30!" Huang Meng quickly marked the documents in her hand and put them back in their place. "I'm sorry, I didn't notice the time. Did I keep you from getting off work?"
Huang Meng quickly got up and walked out, went to the conference room to grab her bag, and left the company with Liang Yuanyuan. "Hehe, it's okay. By the way, how do you get there?"
"I'll take a taxi in a bit, what about you?" Huang Meng asked Liang Yuanyuan, who had locked the door.
"Oh, I'm having dinner with some friends today. They're coming to pick me up, so I'm off!" Liang Yuanyuan glanced at the time, said goodbye to Huang Meng, and then jogged away.
For a moment, Huang Meng was all alone. She looked up at the gloomy sky, sighed, and slowly walked forward.
Suddenly, the phone dropped. Huang Meng took it out; it was a message from Xu Ao.
"I'm having dinner with some colleagues tonight, so I won't be able to join you. Be good to yourself!"
Huang Meng smiled as she read the message. Just as she put her phone down, she looked up and saw Zhao Meng standing in front of her.
"Let's go, I'll see you off." Zhao Meng walked towards her, but for some reason, Huang Meng felt a urge to back down.
"No need, I can just take a taxi myself," Huang Meng quickly replied.
"It's not easy to get a taxi right now, and besides, I'd like to treat you to a meal," Zhao Mengting said with a smile.
"Eat?" Huang Meng looked at him in confusion.
"What, is it wrong to treat an old classmate to a meal?" Zhao Meng looked at her with a smile, eagerly anticipating her reaction after hearing his words.
Sure enough, Huang Meng looked up at him with delight in her eyes.
He said, "Old classmate," which means he recognized him a long time ago?
