Under the moonlight

Chapter 59 Her and His Story

After being classmates with Zhao Meng for six years, they were assigned to the same class in the same middle school. Of course, this was not important to Huang Meng, because she had vowed never to say another word to Zhao Meng.

The incident occurred when Zhao Meng was in fifth grade. He got into an argument with a boy in his class, and the two started fighting. Zhao Meng fiercely pinned the boy down, and both of them were called to the office and received a reprimand. However, Zhao Meng was kept in the office longer.

After he returned, he silently slumped onto the table, burying his head in his hands. Many girls gathered around to comfort him. Huang Meng thought that perhaps this was an opportunity to comfort her heartbroken classmate and maybe she could find common ground with the other girls. So, she mustered her courage and comforted Zhao Meng, but he didn't even lift his head, gritting his teeth as he replied, "Get lost!"

So, after that incident, Huang Meng vowed never to speak to such a rude and violent boy again. Therefore, when she saw his name in the same class as her on her first day of junior high, she felt no emotion; instead, several girls from her elementary school class expressed their envy.

After the start of the first year of junior high, Zhao Meng quickly became the focus of everyone's attention again, especially the girls who were just beginning to experience romantic feelings. His schoolbag was never properly slung over his shoulder, and his school uniform trousers were always rolled up, just to show off his cool sneakers. He was also quite undisciplined in his studies, yet his grades weren't bad. It was hard for teachers to dislike such a student, after all, he was good at enlivening the class atmosphere. Just like in elementary school, he once again unintentionally won the favor of his classmates and teachers, except for Huang Meng and the English teacher.

Their English teacher, though not tall, was very strict. She wore glasses, and through the lenses, she seemed to see through Zhao Meng's seductive tricks. Obviously, she didn't fall for it. Whenever it was her class, Zhao Meng felt like Sun Wukong trapped in Laozi's alchemy furnace, feeling extremely uncomfortable.

So he began to rebel in her English class, either sleeping or causing trouble. Once, he even incited several boys in the class to make a ruckus in the classroom. However, their English teacher was not one to be trifled with. She actually brought in her former students, all of whom were once notorious troublemakers on campus. Clearly, her greatest pleasure was not teaching, but educating people, especially disobedient and naughty boys.

After warnings from their predecessors, several boys in Huang Meng's class were completely subdued, except for Zhao Meng. He and the English teacher were locked in a battle of wits, but this time, Huang Meng felt she had become the victim. The reason was that after her deskmate transferred schools, the seat next to her became empty, and during an English class, Zhao Meng suddenly raised his hand and loudly declared, "Teacher, I want to sit with her." This simple sentence exploded like a bomb in the quiet classroom.

After all, he was sitting alone at the very back, in a spacious place where no one was watching him. Suddenly, he wanted to sit with her, and even sat in the innermost spot against the wall. Even the English teacher looked at Huang Meng and then at Zhao Meng with suspicion.

He probably just wanted to cause trouble for the English teacher; he probably wouldn't actually sit down next to her! Perhaps the English teacher thought the same thing, which is why she didn't agree and instead told him to inform the homeroom teacher about such matters.

Huang Meng breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that perhaps he deliberately wanted to interrupt the English teacher's class, and the other students probably thought the same thing, since he always caused trouble in English class.

To everyone's surprise, in the afternoon Zhao Meng threw his schoolbag onto the empty seat next to her, sat down casually, and looked at Huang Meng with a smile.

Since he sat down inside, Huang Meng felt that even the air had become scarce, and she would unconsciously take deep breaths.

He would always lie down on his desk and sleep during breaks, his arm brazenly resting on her desk. Huang wanted to say something to him, but seeing him sleeping like that, she held back and reluctantly moved her own book to the side.

Life was originally going on simply like this, but she increasingly realized that she had forgotten the vows she had made at some point.

Until one time, she was listening to music on her classmate's MP3 player when Zhao Meng casually picked up her left earphone and put it in his own ear. However, the cord wasn't long enough, and Huang Meng noticed it. Just as she was about to turn her head and tell him not to pull it, she looked up and saw Zhao Meng's dark eyes right in front of her.

Huang Meng turned her head away uncomfortably, but out of the corner of her eye, she clearly caught a glimpse of Zhao Meng's smug smile.

In short, with more and more contact, she found that she was becoming increasingly unable to refuse him, which made her wary. No matter what, she still remembered how fiercely he had told her to get lost, and she was very vengeful!

So, she gradually began to intentionally distance herself from him, and they separated because of the job change.

But news of him would still inadvertently reach his ears through other classmates. He would always run into her in the corridor, on the playground, or at the bus stop outside the school. Although they didn't speak, Huang Meng could feel his gaze.

Then came that accident.

Seeing Zhao Meng lying on the ground in pain, she and the security guards who rushed over quickly took him to the hospital next to the residential area. She was terrified and kept talking to him, "Hang in there, Zhao Meng! Zhao Meng, you have to hold on!" He was taken directly to the emergency room. Fortunately, the security guard recognized him and notified his family. Huang Meng glanced at her school uniform jacket, which was already stained red, and the clock on the wall showed that it was almost 8:30. She quickly ran out of the hospital and stuffed the entire school uniform jacket into the trash can.

After the exam, she saw Chen Zhi in class. He looked like he had done something wrong and didn't dare to look at Huang Meng.

Huang Meng called him to the stairwell and, suppressing her anger, asked him what had happened. It turned out that after arguing with Zhao Meng, he became increasingly angry. On his way home, he ran into Jing Hong, who he knew disliked Zhao Meng, so he thought he would ask Jing Hong to help him vent his anger.

Chen Zhi was almost crying, repeating over and over that Jing Hong and the others promised that they only had a stick and would warn Zhao Meng if he was nice. They had no intention of hurting him and never expected that Jing Hong would actually have a dagger.

Chen Zhi was deceived, Jing Hong is no pushover either, and as for himself, he stumbled upon his scheme. Given Jing Hong's mad dog-like nature, what if...?

Huang Meng dared not think about it anymore. Chen Zhi pleaded with her not to tell the teacher about it. He was also afraid, afraid of being implicated, afraid of Jing Hong's revenge on Huang Meng.

She was much calmer than Chen Zhi in this situation. She promised not to tell the teacher about it, but Zhao Meng didn't come to take the exam, and the teacher would eventually find out about his injury.

Chen Zhi lowered his head sadly. He would tell his family that he would go to the hospital tomorrow. Huang Meng saw that he was also full of remorse, after all, he had indirectly harmed his classmate, so she didn't say anything more.

This matter became a secret among them.

The matter was not publicized, and Jinghong knew that Huang Meng and Chen Zhi had not said anything, so he did not cause them any further trouble.

The day after the exam, Huang Meng received a phone call from Zhao Meng's mother.

His mother, with tears in her voice, hoped that Huang Meng could come to the hospital to help Zhao Meng review his math when she had time. Huang Meng didn't ask any further questions and agreed.

But in the end she didn't go, because her parents felt that since she was going back to her hometown to study, there was no need to have much contact with her classmates here, especially since it was a boy. Huang Meng didn't refuse, because she didn't know what kind of feeling she had for Zhao Meng. Was it envy or love?

Later, she returned to her hometown and began a demanding academic life, but one thing was very strange.

"Do you ever have the same dream repeatedly, and dream about the same person?" Huang Meng turned to look at Xu Ao and asked seriously.

Xu Ao bit his head and looked at her quietly.

“Ever since I returned to my hometown, I have been dreaming about Zhao Meng. Every dream is similar: I dream that he is always not far in front of me, with his back to me, and I keep getting closer to him, but just when I am about to touch him, he suddenly disappears and then suddenly appears in another place, even farther away from me. I call him, but he does not respond to me. Every time I wake up, I feel a sense of loss. This kind of dream has lasted for a very long time.”

After Huang Meng finished speaking, she looked at Xu Ao. His face did not show the unexpected or disbelief she had expected. After all, this kind of thing sounded too much like a plot from a romance novel.

"Yes, back then, you probably didn't understand how much you liked him." Xu Ao finished speaking seriously and turned to look at Huang Meng.

"At that time, you may not have understood what you were thinking, but you really wanted to see him. Maybe that's why you kept dreaming about him. You have regrets in your heart."

"Is that so?" Huang Meng said calmly.

They didn't speak again, walking slowly, feeling the gentle breeze. The scent of late summer and early autumn had a strange, earthy charm. Huang Meng took a few deep breaths, slowly exhaled, and then looked at Xu Ao with a smile, saying, "Hmm, this is the first time I've talked to someone about something like this. Is it too cheesy?"

"No, these are your beautiful youthful years. Even though I couldn't be there to witness your blossoming youth, it's still nice to hear about them."

"Oh dear, you're being too formal. I'll show you some of my old photos sometime; you'll be absolutely amazed!"

"What, were you beautiful and charming since you were a child?"

"Oh dear, what's this? Did you secretly have a sweet talk behind my back today? Let me see, you're so good with words!"

Huang Meng moved closer to Xu Ao, kneading his cheeks with both hands. Xu Ao looked at her bright smile and lowered his head to kiss her.

Huang Meng seemed to have gotten used to his unannounced attacks and gradually learned to cooperate with his mad plundering, but he still underestimated Xu Ao's domineering nature.

He seemed to be putting all his strength into it, relentlessly pressing his lips against hers, his powerful arms encircling her waist, pulling her forcefully into his embrace, as if trying to meld her into his own body.

The moment Huang Meng changed her breathing, he launched another forceful attack, giving her no chance to catch her breath. Xu Ao squinted at Huang Meng, who was nestled in his arms, listening to the breaths escaping from her lips. A victor's smile flashed in his eyes. He then closed his eyes and kissed her heavily a few more times before releasing Huang Meng.
