Under the moonlight

Chapter 49 Meeting for a Meal

As the car drove into the city center, Li Shuo leisurely strolled around, looking for a place to eat, when Huang Meng's phone suddenly rang.

"Xu Ao, what's wrong?"

"How's work? Is everything going smoothly?" Xu Ao's voice came from the other end of the phone.

"Well, it's alright. I've completed the onboarding process, and HR tells me to report for duty tomorrow," Huang Meng answered honestly.

"Okay, let's take a look first. If it doesn't work out, we'll leave. Have you eaten?"

"No, we're looking for a place." Huang Meng looked up and glanced outside through the windshield.

"Okay, I'll send you my location, come over!" Xu Ao said and hung up the phone.

Huang Meng looked at the location he sent, opened the map and showed it to Li Shuo. "Hmm, this restaurant is indeed good. It's worth it for me to accompany you all morning." After saying that, she turned the steering wheel and turned the car around.

When they arrived, Xu Ao had already ordered the food. When he saw Huang Meng coming over, he quickly got up, pulled out a chair, and took the bag from Huang Meng's hand and put it away.

"Oh my, there's a perfectly healthy person right behind us, and we just couldn't see him!" Li Shuo teased him, seeing how attentive he was.

"Yeah, I saw it." Xu Ao didn't intend to pay him any attention and said perfunctorily.

"So, is the company reliable?" Huang Meng had just sat down when she turned to look at Xu Ao, who was asking the question. She was a little unsure how to answer. After thinking for a while, she said, "Well, if I say it's unreliable, it has all the necessary documents and business licenses. But if I say it's reliable, it feels like something's missing." Huang Meng voiced her thoughts and looked at Xu Ao with a furrowed brow.

"Hmm, I understand. It must be a newly established company. The thing you mentioned is that it's like a newcomer to the workforce. You can tell at a glance that it has the ability and professionalism, but it lacks the maturity and sophistication of senior employees. To put it bluntly, it lacks experience and depth."

"Wow, that's amazing! That's exactly how I felt!" After Xu Ao finished speaking, Huang Meng immediately looked at him with an admiring gaze. She had always felt that this company gave her a strange feeling, but she couldn't put her finger on what was strange. After Xu Ao's analysis, she immediately understood what was strange about it.

Li Shuo had been looking down at his phone since he sat down. When he heard Xu Ao finish speaking, he gave him a thumbs up and then lowered his head again.

Xu Ao wanted to ask for more details, but the waiter had already served all the dishes. He decided to let Huang Meng fill her stomach first. He kept putting food into Huang Meng's bowl, while Li Shuo ate without any politeness. He had been driving all morning and was indeed starving.

The three of them finished lunch in a flash. Li Shuo said he had only taken the morning off, said goodbye to the other two, and left first.

After Li Shuo left, Huang Meng asked about his work.

"Hey, how are you doing? Busy or not?" This was the first time they had eaten with Xu Ao since they returned to China.

"Phew~ Busy. The department I work in now is mainly responsible for the quarantine of exported goods. Every day there are endless people to receive and countless phone calls to make. It's much more tiring than when I was abroad." Xu Ao held Huang Meng's hand and looked at her pitifully, as if complaining to her.

"Hmph, you still feel tired at work? You could handle such dangerous jobs in S country. What, you can't even adapt to meeting people and making phone calls after coming back?" Huang Meng leaned closer to him and said with a smile.

Xu Ao saw her suddenly lean closer to him, grabbed her hand and pulled her sharply to his side. Huang Meng was already leaning to one side and was not sitting steadily. When he pulled her, her entire upper body fell into his arms. She grabbed his clothes tightly with both hands to steady herself.

As soon as Huang Meng raised her head, Xu Ao cupped her face and kissed her.

This kiss was gentle, not in a hurry to conquer, as if savoring her tender lips.

Huang Meng was momentarily dazed, her eyelashes trembled slightly, and her whole body relaxed, immersed in his endless tenderness.

Xu Ao squinted at her, watching her entranced expression, then suddenly pulled her close and deepened the kiss. Startled by the sudden embrace, she gasped, but before she could utter a sound, her mouth was filled with Xu Ao's slightly domineering kiss. Only when the jarring sound of a chair moving behind them reached Xu Ao's ears did he finally release Huang Meng from his arms.

"Hmph, not bad, you've improved~" Xu Ao teased, looking at Huang Meng, who was blushing and smiling, in his arms.

"Tch~" Huang Meng seemed to still be immersed in his gentle yet domineering kiss, and had no mind to argue with him. She pushed him, sat up straight, and looked around guiltily. Fortunately, no one was watching them.

"What's wrong, are you shy?" Xu Ao noticed her little movements and smoothed out the wrinkles in her clothes.

Huang Meng looked at his slightly upturned eyes, his smiling gaze seeming to draw her in, and said, "Don't you have to go to work this afternoon? Aren't you leaving yet!"

"What, you're kicking me out now that you're done?" Xu Ao leaned closer to her and whispered in her ear, his breath tickling her ear. Before she could speak, Xu Ao stood up, smiled at her, and said, "I'm leaving now. I've already paid the bill. Sit down for a while, and then go home on your own. I have to go now."

Huang Meng watched his slightly anxious back. He had mentioned before that the lunch break was very short, but she had forgotten about it.

After he left, Huang Meng didn't stay any longer and took a taxi home.
