Under the moonlight

Chapter 106 Fate Plays Tricks

Chen Zhi and Huang Meng sat in the back seat of the car, talking and laughing non-stop. Chen Zhi chatted with her about her old classmates after she transferred schools.

"After you transferred schools, Xie Huihui was like a different person. She actually started studying. My goodness, I was shocked. She ended up going to university. I heard that her husband was her college classmate. We only met him once, at her wedding."

"What about the others?" Huang Meng was most concerned about the girls who had supported her and accepted her when she was isolated by her so-called good friends.

"They're still the same as before, always laughing and joking, as if there's always something that makes them happy. Their studies are still the same. I think they ended up going to a high school, and I don't know about their universities, but even if they didn't go to the same one, they were all in X city, and they often get together to meet up." Chen Zhi told Huang Meng everything he knew.

"I see~" With her sensitive mind, she had already realized that they were still very happy without her, just like before they accepted her into their little group. She had come and gone in a hurry, and it seemed that she had not had much of an impact on them.

"Alright, shut up. Aren't you thirsty?" Zhao Meng heard Huang Meng stop talking. Chen Zhi never thought before he spoke. His words just now clearly told Huang Meng that the others were doing just fine and that it didn't matter whether she was there or not. What an idiot!

"I'm not thirsty." Chen Zhi looked blankly at Zhao Meng in the passenger seat, his head bobbing slightly, revealing a sense of helplessness.

"Oh, right, and Wang Yanping, that tall and strong girl, she's actually married and has a child, it's unbelievable!" Chen Zhi kept rambling on, while Huang Meng just responded half-heartedly.

The car stopped in front of the hotel. The group agreed to rest in their rooms for a while, and then go to the restaurant to wait when it was almost time.

As soon as Huang Meng arrived in the room, she couldn't wait to take out her phone.

"What are you doing?" Huang Meng asked softly, looking at Xu Ao in front of the screen.

"Oh, nothing. Hey, I just finished eating. What about you? Have you eaten yet?" Xu Ao asked, stretching.

"I haven't eaten yet. I had breakfast late, so I'll just grab something to eat later. The snacks here are delicious. Next time, let's come together, and I'll treat you." Although she really wanted to ask who the woman at the end of yesterday's video was, she felt she should wait for Xu Ao to tell her himself.

"Okay, sure, I'll go sometime if I have the chance, I..."

"Xu Ao, come here for a moment." It was that woman's voice again. Huang Meng heard it clearly this time. Xu Ao also seemed not to have expected her to speak suddenly. He was stunned for a moment and even coughed awkwardly.

"Who is it?" This time she couldn't help but ask.

"Oh, uh, a friend, she was just passing by," Xu Ao said hastily.

"Passing by? Your house? Or has she always been here?" Huang Meng's heart felt as if it had fallen into an ice cave, and she felt a chill run through her body.

"You're overthinking it. I was just passing by. Um, let's talk again tonight. Goodbye." Xu Ao hung up the video call abruptly, without waiting for her to speak.

Huang Meng sat blankly on the edge of the bed, holding her phone, as if she hadn't reacted, her eyes fixed on the black screen of her phone.

Xu Ao, what happened to him? Based on her understanding of Xu Ao, he wasn't the type to keep things to himself. If he really had fallen for someone else, he would never have dragged her along like that; it wasn't his nature.

But what kind of person or thing could make him keep it from me and refuse to tell me the truth?

Huang Meng felt a surge of unease. He stood up and paced back and forth in the room, thinking that none of the explanations seemed to make sense. Who was that woman? He had only been back in the country for a few months. Was she a colleague? Or an old friend? Why was she in his house?

Huang Meng was frustrated and couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation for everything. The only explanation that made sense was that he had changed his mind and cheated on her. That would explain his coldness towards her these past few days and the presence of other women in his house. But this didn't sound like the Xu Ao she knew.

This problem seems to have reached a dead end; no matter how I think about it, I can't find an answer.

"Huang Meng, I bought some food, can you open the door?" Chen Zhi's voice suddenly came from outside the door, interrupting her reverie.

"When did you buy these?" Huang Meng asked, looking at Chen Zhi carrying the snacks.

“It was still hot just now. Zhao Meng said you used to like these dishes, so I bought them. Come on, hold them quickly, I can’t hold them anymore.”

"Oh, okay, thank you!" Huang Meng quickly took the bag from Chen Zhi's hand and said to him with a smile.

"Why thank me? It was Zhao Meng who was worried you'd get hungry before lunch, so he asked me to buy it. Anyway, I'm going to his room now. I'll go get something to eat too." Chen Zhi said as he walked towards Zhao Meng's room.

"Okay, sure." Huang Meng waved to him.

She brought the food into the room and looked at it. It was indeed a few snacks that she used to love to eat when she was in X City. Huang Meng smiled helplessly. Fate really likes to play tricks on people.
