Under the moonlight

Chapter 104 Who is she?

Huang Meng returned to her room and closed the door tightly, but her heart was still pounding. Why would he suddenly kiss her? What is this? What am I doing? Am I cheating?! Huang Meng frantically rubbed her hair, her mind a complete mess, and she had lost the ability to think.

Just as she calmed down, her phone rang; it was Xu Ao.

"You're still awake? How was your day? Are you tired?" Xu Ao looked haggard on the screen. Huang Meng noticed his droopy eye bags and quickly asked, "What's wrong? You look so tired?"

"Well, it's alright, it's just that I've had a lot of work these past few days. How are you doing today?" Xu Ao looked at Huang Meng through the screen.

"Um, well, it's alright. I just had lunch with someone and went out for a walk in the afternoon." Huang Meng looked at herself on the screen with a little guilt. She hesitated whether to tell Xu Ao about Zhao Meng. If she did, would he misunderstand her?

"Okay, that's good. I'll hang up now. I still have some work to finish. You should get some rest."

"Xu Ao, what are you doing here? I went to your house to look for you, but you weren't there..."

Before Xu Ao hung up the video call, a woman's voice came from behind him. Huang Meng didn't see who was speaking; Xu Ao only showed her a flustered profile and the back of his head.

Who would go to his house to look for him? What kind of woman would know his home address? It seems that I have never been to the house he mentioned.

Huang Meng suddenly felt her heart plummet downwards, sinking deeper and deeper.

The next day, with no plans, Zhao Meng got up early on his own. Without informing Chen Zhi and Huang Meng, he went to find Xu Xinyi. She had informed him early in the morning that the batch of goods was ready and asked him to take a look. If there were no problems with the product categories, the goods could be shipped out today.

Zhao Meng hailed a car, and as soon as he got in, he started calling Yuri. He didn't get through until they arrived at their destination. "Hello, Yuri? What's going on?"

"Zhao Meng, I'm sorry, our communications are being interfered with right now. We have to go outside the city to get a signal. Even if you hadn't called me, I would have contacted you today anyway."

"Okay, go ahead," Zhao Meng said, knowing it wasn't easy to get in touch with him, and asked directly.

"Zhao Meng, can you find us some medicine? Besides medical products, we are in dire need of medicine. The government's stockpile was almost used up, and now even important figures in the government have been infected with the plague. The few remaining medicines will definitely be given to them first, and we ordinary people can only wait to die."

What medicines do you all need?

“I’m not a doctor, but the symptoms of those infected are similar yet not exactly the same, and I don’t know which medicine will work, which is the troublesome part,” Yuri said helplessly.

"Hmm, I understand. What are the similar symptoms?" Zhao Meng asked, frowning.

"Fever, diarrhea, persistent cough, weakness in the limbs—these are the general symptoms, and almost everyone has them," Yuri quickly said.

"Okay, I understand. I've found another batch of medical products, alcohol, cotton swabs, masks, etc. They should be cleared through customs tomorrow or the day after. Can you find a way to receive them?" Since he just said that people in the government have been infected, the government's functions are probably paralyzed.

"Hmm, let me think of a way. The port is currently blocked, but the airport isn't under too much control. If we put on the C country's markings, we should be able to pass."

"Okay, I understand." Zhao Meng hung up the phone, his brows furrowing even lower. Without government assistance, it would be difficult for an individual to take such a large shipment of goods from the airport or port. It seemed he would need to discuss this matter further with Xu Ao.

After finishing his business, Zhao Meng went straight back to the hotel. On his phone, he received a message from Chen Zhi saying that he and Huang Meng were going to visit their middle school after breakfast. He and Chen Zhi had arranged to meet at the school gate.

His place was closer to their middle school, so he arrived first. It was Sunday, and the security guards initially wouldn't let him in. But then he dialed their former dean of students, now the principal, and the guards immediately let him in.

Walking in the empty courtyard, scenes from their school days flashed through her mind one after another. On the playground, she was accidentally hit on the nose by a soccer ball, and she couldn't help but cry out in pain. The physical education teacher was so frightened that he rushed to check if she had injured her hand, but she was more concerned about whether her nose had been knocked crooked.

On the stage, she used to rehearse dances with her girlfriends over and over again. The moves weren't exactly graceful, but they were very earnest.

There was also a row of short trees over there. One afternoon after school on a typhoon day, she found bird eggs that had been blown off the trees and carefully put them back.

The little shop behind the teaching building, where she loved guava-flavored hard candy, she wondered if they still had it. Lost in thought, she stepped into the shop; the layout was exactly the same as when they were in school. "Boss, do you have guava candy?"

"Yes." The shopkeeper glanced at him indifferently, took out a pack and placed it on the counter. "Five yuan."

Zhao Meng paid, unwrapped a piece of candy, and popped it into his mouth. Sure enough, it tasted the same as before.

He squinted, a smile on his face, and walked slowly through the campus. Everywhere he passed, he seemed to see her figure from the past. It turned out that she had entered his heart a long, long time ago, but he just didn't understand it at the time.

"Hello?" Just as Zhao Meng was immersed in his memories, the phone rang.

"Brother, you went in by yourself, we can't get in. Can you come out for a second?" Chen Zhi pleaded with the doorway until his lips were practically worn out.

"Okay, I understand." Zhao Meng quickened his pace to the door and gave the security guard a big smile.

"If I had known you had such a big reputation, why would I have bothered talking to him so much? Tch, what a waste of time~" Chen Zhi glanced helplessly at the security guard at the door.

"Ah, it's exactly the same as before!" Huang Meng's mood was not affected by what had just happened. As soon as she entered, her eyes darted around excitedly.

"Yeah, nothing's changed. Still so ordinary," Chen Zhi said, pouting.

Huang Meng ignored him and walked straight to the floor where their old classroom was located. Standing outside the classroom, Huang Meng had an indescribable feeling, like she was dreaming. Everything was real, yet it felt like a dream. Can people really go back to the past?
