Dapeng's Time Travel Life

Chapter 68 The Perilous Abyss and the Tragedy of Betrayal

At the bottom of the Spirit Abyss, dense spiritual energy, like tangible clouds, enveloped Zhang Peng and the others. Zhang Peng closed his eyes and concentrated, guiding the spiritual energy into his body. The mysterious power within him grew increasingly active under the nourishment of the spiritual energy, like a sleeping dragon gradually awakening. Li Ming and the other soldiers also found their own corners and began to cultivate, trying to seize this rare opportunity to improve their strength.

Lin Wan'er stayed by Zhang Peng's side, protecting him. She occasionally glanced around; the Spirit Abyss was eerily quiet, save for the soft breathing of the people and the subtle sounds of flowing spiritual energy. Suddenly, Lin Wan'er sensed something amiss. She stood up alertly, her eyes searching the darkness.

"What's wrong, Miss Lin?" Zhang Peng noticed Lin Wan'er's change and slowly opened his eyes.

"I...I feel like there's an unfamiliar presence." Lin Wan'er frowned, her expression grave. "There shouldn't be anyone else in this Spirit Abyss."

Zhang Peng's heart skipped a beat. He immediately stood up, mobilized his inner strength, and became alert for his surroundings. The other soldiers also stopped their cultivation, gripped their weapons, and watched their surroundings warily. Just then, a dark figure sped out from the depths of the Spirit Abyss at incredible speed, arriving before anyone could react.

"Watch out!" Zhang Peng shouted, shielding Lin Wan'er behind him while unleashing a burst of spiritual energy towards the dark figure. The figure paused briefly under the impact of the energy, revealing its true form—a gigantic spirit beast. This beast was covered in sharp scales, its eyes flashing with bloodthirsty red light, and it opened its gaping maw, letting out a deafening roar.

"This is the guardian beast of the Spirit Abyss!" Lin Wan'er exclaimed. "Legend has it that it guards the core power of the Spirit Abyss, and will attack anyone who intrudes."

Zhang Peng stared intently at the spirit beast, secretly calculating his options. This spirit beast was powerful; defeating it would be no easy feat. But they were currently trapped in the Spirit Abyss, their retreat blocked by restrictions, leaving them with no choice but to fight. "Everyone be careful, listen to my command!" he shouted, charging towards the spirit beast first.

The soldiers followed suit, and in an instant, spiritual energy filled the Spirit Abyss, accompanied by shouts of battle. Zhang Peng brandished his spear, its tip gleaming with spiritual light, aiming for the spirit beast's vital points. The spirit beast nimbly dodged, simultaneously swinging its sharp claws to retaliate against Zhang Peng.

The battle intensified, with soldiers led by Zhang Peng engaging in a desperate struggle against the spirit beasts. However, the spirit beasts were tough and resilient, and their attacks had limited effect. On the contrary, several soldiers had already been wounded and fallen to the ground by the spirit beasts' attacks.

"This won't do!" Zhang Peng was frantic. He had to find the spirit beast's weakness as soon as possible, or they would all perish. Just then, he suddenly noticed that the spirit beast's eyes would briefly reveal an opening when it attacked. An idea struck him, and he immediately shouted, "Attack its eyes!"

Upon hearing this, everyone turned their attacks towards the spirit beast's eyes. Zhang Peng seized the opportunity, channeling all his spiritual energy into his spear, and thrust it fiercely towards the spirit beast's left eye. The spirit beast, unable to dodge, was struck by the spear and let out a painful roar. It struggled frantically, trying to break free of the spear, but only deepened the wound.

Just as the spirit beast was in disarray, Lin Wan'er suddenly noticed that the scales on its belly were arranged somewhat strangely. "General, attack its belly!" she shouted a warning.

Zhang Peng immediately understood. He drew his spear, flashed to the spirit beast's belly, and thrust it in forcefully. This time, the spirit beast's defenses were completely breached, and its body slowly collapsed, finally crashing heavily to the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed to the ground. However, before they could recover, a cold voice rang out in the Spirit Abyss: "Very well, you have successfully angered me."

Everyone looked up and saw Lin Shuang appear above the Spirit Abyss at some point, with an old man in black robes standing beside her. Lin Shuang looked at the crowd below, her eyes filled with complex emotions, including guilt and resolve.

"Lin Shuang, why did you betray us?" Lin Wan'er looked at her sister in shock, her heart filled with anger and disappointment.

Lin Shuang gritted her teeth and said, "Little sister, you don't understand. The secret our family carries is too heavy. Only with the help of Master can we unravel this mystery and allow our family to be reborn."

The old man in black robes chuckled coldly, "That's right, you will all die today. The power of this Spirit Abyss will belong to me!" With that, he formed a hand seal, and a powerful dark force surged towards the bottom of the Spirit Abyss.
