Chapter 6 Desperate Situation and Dawn

On the night of the full moon, the silvery moon hung high in the sky, casting its cool light and enveloping the Prince's mansion in tranquility, yet with an underlying unease. Zhang Peng, dressed in a close-fitting outfit with a sword at his waist, patrolled the mansion with eyes as sharp as a hawk's. Behind him were a group of well-trained guards, each with a solemn expression, hands on their sword hilts, ready to face the impending storm at any moment.

Xia Lijuan stood in the courtyard, her white dress fluttering slightly in the night breeze, her face as pale as paper. Her gaze frequently drifted to Zhang Peng, her lips trembling slightly, as if she wanted to say something, but fear choked her throat. Zhang Peng noticed her gaze, his brow furrowing slightly, his doubts growing wildly in his heart. He didn't know whether, in this final, crucial moment, Xia Lijuan would genuinely help him, or betray him once again.

Suddenly, a sharp whistle pierced the night sky, followed by several dark figures leaping over the walls like ghosts from all directions. Zhang Peng shouted, "Attack!" Instantly, the guards pounced on the figures like tigers, swords flashing and shouts of battle shattering the silence. Zhang Peng, longsword in hand, charged into the enemy ranks, each move swift and ruthless, every strike aimed straight for vital points.

In the chaos of the fight, Zhang Peng caught a glimpse of Xia Lijuan being attacked by several shadowy figures, her situation dire. His heart tightened, and without a second thought, he leaped to her aid. However, just as he reached her, Xia Lijuan suddenly pulled a dagger from her bosom, its cold light flashing, and thrust it straight at his chest. Zhang Peng's pupils constricted, and he instinctively dodged to the side, the dagger grazing his clothes.

"You..." Zhang Peng stared at Xia Lijuan in disbelief, his anger and disappointment reaching their peak. Xia Lijuan's eyes were filled with tears, her voice trembling: "Your Highness, I'm sorry, I... I had no other choice." Before she could finish speaking, she swung her knife at him again. Zhang Peng was filled with mixed emotions, both angry and heartbroken. He dodged Xia Lijuan's attacks while trying to subdue her.

At this moment, the leader of the mysterious organization appeared. He was tall and masked, only his cold eyes visible. He wielded a long sword, his swordsmanship unpredictable; wherever he went, guards fell. Seeing this, Zhang Peng was frantic. He knew that if he didn't deal with this man quickly, the Prince's mansion would be awash in blood today. He suddenly exerted his strength, breaking free from Xia Lijuan's grasp, and charged towards the leader.

The two clashed in mid-air, their swords flashing and sparks flying with every impact. Zhang Peng's swordsmanship was fierce and sharp, while the leader's knife skills were unpredictable and ever-changing; for a time, neither could gain the upper hand. As the battle intensified, Zhang Peng gradually felt his strength waning, while the leader grew stronger with each battle.

Just as Zhang Peng was in dire straits, suddenly, a dark figure flew from the shadows and struck the leader like lightning. The leader groaned and staggered backward. Zhang Peng looked closely and saw that it was the mysterious organization member he had captured earlier. The man's face was contorted with pain as he shouted, "My lord, I don't want to make any more mistakes! They forced me to this!"

Taking advantage of the leader's distraction, Zhang Peng seized the opportunity, using all his strength to thrust his sword into the leader's chest. The leader's eyes widened, seemingly unable to believe he had been defeated, and he slowly collapsed. Seeing their leader dead, the mysterious organization scattered like birds and beasts.

Zhang Peng breathed a sigh of relief and wearily turned to look at Xia Lijuan. Xia Lijuan collapsed to the ground, her eyes vacant, tears streaming down her face. Zhang Peng walked up to her, remained silent for a long time, and slowly said, "Why? In the end, you still chose to betray me." Xia Lijuan sobbed uncontrollably, "Your Highness, they really will kill my family, I... I had no choice."

Zhang Peng felt a sharp pain in his heart; he didn't know how to face the woman who had betrayed him twice. Just then, his trusted aide rushed over, holding a letter that had been found on the leader. Zhang Peng took the letter, unfolded it, and his face instantly turned extremely grim. The letter detailed the entire conspiracy of the mysterious organization, and the mastermind behind it all was none other than the senior official in the court whom he had always regarded as his mentor.

Zhang Peng clenched his fists, his anger beyond words. He knew this matter was of great importance and he had to go to the palace immediately to report to the Emperor. He glanced at Xia Lijuan and said coldly, "You wait here for now. I'll deal with you when I get back." With that, he took the letter and flew towards the palace.

The moonlight remained cold and clear. The Prince's mansion was in ruins. This thrilling battle had temporarily come to an end, but Zhang Peng knew that the real storm had just begun. He had to reveal the truth and salvage the precarious situation before the conspiracy fully erupted. What kind of turbulent waves awaited him, he had no idea.
