Anxiety and anticipation filled the air at the border. Zhang Peng stood on the city wall, gazing at the billowing black smoke in the distance—the signal that Li Ming had successfully burned the enemy's supplies. He knew that this game had reached a critical moment; the enemy would surely be enraged, and an even more ferocious attack was imminent.

"General, the enemy camp is in complete chaos. They certainly won't let this go. What should we do next?" The deputy general looked tense, his eyes fixed on Zhang Peng.

Zhang Peng took a deep breath, his gaze resolute: "The enemy's supplies have been burned, and their morale is low. This is the perfect opportunity for us to counterattack. Pass down the order: the entire army must prepare for battle. When the enemy attacks, we will give them a crushing defeat!"

Inside the city, the soldiers sprang into action, organizing their equipment, inspecting their weapons, and standing ready for battle. The civilians also spontaneously organized themselves, providing the soldiers with water, cooking, and supplies, giving their full support to this battle that was a matter of life and death.

Sure enough, it wasn't long before the enemy troops surged in like a tidal wave. They were menacing, and their shouts shook the earth. Leading the way were giant catapults, their metal surfaces gleaming coldly in the sunlight, as if demonstrating their power to the world.

"General, the enemy's catapults are coming!" a soldier shouted in terror.

Zhang Peng frowned, his eyes fixed on the catapult. He knew this was the greatest threat in the battle. "Order the enemy to concentrate fire and attack their catapult operators! Stop them from firing!"

At Zhang Peng's command, the archers on the city wall quickly took their positions and unleashed a volley of arrows, raining down on the enemy. The enemy soldiers raised their shields to defend themselves, but many operators were still hit, disrupting the firing rhythm of the catapults.

However, the enemy did not retreat. After losing some soldiers, they quickly adjusted their tactics. Some soldiers continued to advance the catapults, while others charged the city walls in an attempt to distract the defenders.

"Fire arrows! Unleash rolling logs and stones!" Zhang Peng shouted the order. Soldiers on the city wall scrambled down the prepared logs and stones, hurling them at the attacking enemy. Instantly, screams filled the enemy ranks as soldiers fell one after another.

But the enemy's offensive was too fierce, and they quickly reached the city walls. They erected ladders and attempted to scale the walls. On the walls, a fierce hand-to-hand battle ensued. The soldiers fought bravely, clashing with the enemy, their blood staining the walls crimson.

"General, the enemy's offensive is too fierce, we can't hold on much longer!" a general shouted anxiously.

Zhang Peng stared anxiously at the densely packed enemy troops below the city walls. He knew that at this rate, the walls would eventually be breached. Just then, he suddenly heard the familiar sound of horses' hooves.

It turned out that Li Ming had led his squad back to provide timely support after completing their mission. "General, we've arrived to provide support!" Li Ming's voice rang out on the battlefield.

Zhang Peng was overjoyed: "Alright, brothers, let's kill them all!"

Li Ming led his small squad, charging into the enemy ranks like tigers, launching a flanking attack. Caught between two assaults, the enemy's formation crumbled. Zhang Peng seized the opportunity and ordered a full-scale assault: "Open the city gates, charge out, kill!"

As the city gates slowly opened, soldiers surged out like a tide, engaging in fierce combat with the enemy. On the battlefield, shouts of battle and the clanging of weapons mingled together, creating a deafening roar.

Under the defenders' fierce counterattack, the enemy finally began to waver. They retreated in droves, attempting to escape the battlefield. Seeing this, Zhang Peng shouted, "The enemy is in disarray! Don't let them get away! Pursue them!"

Encouraged and in high spirits, the soldiers pursued the enemy relentlessly, disregarding their fatigue. After a fierce battle, the enemy was finally driven back completely. On the battlefield, smoke filled the air, limbs and severed bodies lay scattered everywhere, and blood stained the earth red.

Zhang Peng watched the retreating enemy army, let out a long sigh of relief, and his tense nerves finally relaxed. They had paid a heavy price in this battle, but ultimately won. He knew that this victory was hard-won, bought with the blood and lives of countless soldiers.

Back in the city, the people poured into the streets, cheering and celebrating their hard-won victory. Zhang Peng looked at their smiling faces, his heart filled with satisfaction. He knew this was only a temporary victory, and many more challenges awaited them.
