Genshin Impact: Awakening in the Darkness

Chapter 5 formally introduces Xuan Qing and Xuan Yue.

Morax held Joavis, who had reverted to being about 12 years old, as he flew through the air. The two remained silent.

“What should I call you?” Morax broke the silence. “You are both Joavis, so you must have a specific name for each other, right?”

“Xuanqing, that’s my name.” Joavis didn’t hide it, after all, a name was unimportant to him.

"Xuanqing... what about the other one?"

“Xuan Yue.” Joavis spoke coldly as he sat on Morax’s arm, leaning against his chest, and the world before his eyes gradually blurred without him realizing it.

(Oh no.) These were his last thoughts as he passed out.

The moment Morax noticed something was wrong with Xuanqing, he scooped him up in his arms and flew at top speed towards Jueyun.

"Morax, what happened to him?" Jota rushed over immediately after receiving the message, and just in time to see Joavis lying unconscious on the bed.

"His condition is very bad. He forcibly increased his strength, exhausting his divine power and damaging his very essence," Morax stated truthfully.

"It's that serious? Wait, you guys came back so quickly, so all three demon gods over there have perished?"

“Yes, he killed him.” Morax didn’t hide anything.

"What! Morax, don't be ridiculous. He's just a newly born demon god. How could he possibly kill those old guys?" Jodo's eyes widened.

"We'll discuss this in detail once those people arrive, but the Dream Demon God and the others have indeed perished, and the remnants of the demon gods have been cleared away. We can tell the people of Liyue that they can relocate and develop farmland."

“I will make the arrangements, but I still can’t figure it out. If what you’re saying is true, then Ruoyavis is a top-tier, peak-level demon god. Otherwise, how could he have killed all those demon gods in one go?” Ruoyavis still couldn’t understand, and finally shook his head, waved his hand, and gave up thinking about it.

Soon, the other immortals and demons arrived, and Morax recounted what had happened, startling all the immortals.

"Your Majesty, does that mean that this Joyavis killed those three demon gods all by himself?" Xiaoyue asked.

"Yes, and he must have forcibly increased his strength, which caused damage to his source and put him in a coma. Judging from his current physical condition, he will wake up soon, but he will not be able to use divine power for the time being."

"Then, Your Majesty, what happened to his split soul? Did he suffer some kind of trauma?" Minghai asked.

“No, it’s not that. He split himself to prevent his personality from going out of control. According to his description, once he loses control, he wants that personality to devour him and replace his original self,” Morax explained to Narumi’s question.

"Your Majesty," Li Shui suggested, "based on your description, Ruoyavis's authority seems more like destruction and creation. Furthermore, he possesses the ability to strip other demons of their authority. In the future great war, he will likely be targeted by other demons. Since he is currently unable to use his power, should we send an immortal to protect him?"

“The suggestion is excellent. I’ll leave Roda to you,” Morax said, turning to Roda.

"Wait, wait, wait! I haven't agreed yet!" Ruoduo's eyes widened instantly.

“Oh, you disagree. Among all the immortals, your strength is on par with mine, so from a safety perspective, you are the most suitable candidate. If that's not possible, then…” Morax pondered as he selected a candidate.

“Well… I don’t disagree, but shouldn’t you wait until he wakes up before discussing it with him?” Ruoduo scratched his head and said.

“The Dragon King is absolutely right. Your Majesty should wait for him to wake up before making any further plans,” Xiaoyue nodded.

"Your Majesty! Your Majesty!" Gui Zhong's voice came from Morax's communication stone.

"What is it?" Morax connected the communication stone.

“There are five yakshas here who claim to have received the Heavenly Emperor’s favor and want to serve him.” Gui Zhong turned his attention to the five yakshas.

"I'll be there later." Morax said and hung up the communication: "There are still some post-war matters on the battlefield, I'll go first, you can take care of Joavis for now."

"Your Majesty, please rest assured, we are here." Yi Xiao also said.

Morax turned and left, pausing in mid-air for a moment to look at the spot before departing.

"Speaking of which, Heavenly Lord, what kind of title is that?" Ruoduo turned around and chatted with the others.

"Oh, that's the title given by the common people, 'Bright Night Heavenly Lord.' I've heard it before; the voice was no quieter than the one used to address the Emperor," Minghai said.

"Oh, I really want to have a match with him sometime. The fact that he can make the people of Liyue act like this shows that he is indeed a good guy."

"Want to have a fight? Not now." A voice suddenly rang out.

The immortals turned around abruptly and saw the white-clad Joavis smiling at them.

"Why don't we chat together?" Joás, still smiling, said.

"You...you...you...you!" Ruoduo stammered in fright.

“Speaking of which, this should be our first time meeting. To distinguish myself from that guy, let me reintroduce myself,” the white-clad Joavis stood up and walked up to them: “I am Xuan Yue, representing the twilight before night and the sunrise after night.”

"It seems Morax was right." Yi Xiao shook his head, sighed, and had no choice but to accept the reality before him.

"Your name is Xuan Yue, so where is the other guy? Why is it you who came out? And what do you mean by dusk and sunrise?" Ruo Tuo blurted out a whole bunch of questions that were on his mind.

"Haha, if that guy were here, you probably wouldn't get the answer, so let me explain for now. The other guy is called Xuan Qing, and I believe he told you that this is the name he approves of most." Xuan Yue said with a smile, "Based on the previous battle, it seemed like I was in control of the body, but in reality, the source of power consumed was still his. So he's currently asleep, and I'm taking control of the current Ruoyavis. After all, fainting on the battlefield is a major taboo. Also, the Night Demon God represents not only the night, but also dawn and dusk—one is the end of the night, and the other is the beginning of the night." Xuan Yue explained slowly.

"Then is your purification authority originally from Noavis?" Narumi also raised a question.

“Yes, in the beginning, Noavis only had the authority to represent the eternal night and the dawn. He killed and plundered in the eternal night and was purified and reborn in the dawn.” Xuan Yue’s words were startling.

"Rebirth!!" The immortals were no longer calm. After all, even the simplest healing, a power of life, was extremely rare among demon gods, let alone purification and rebirth, the two most powerful powers of the law of life. No wonder the immortals were so surprised.

"Don't be too happy yet. We would never use the power of rebirth unless absolutely necessary. It would alert the one above, and we absolutely will not use it until our strength is sufficient to fight them." Xuan Yue shattered their beautiful illusions.

"It's alright, it's alright, the authority for purification alone is enough." Xiaoyue nodded.

"Alright, Dragon King, I'll explain your desire to spar with Xuanqing once he awakens. After all, my combat strength is inferior to his; I'm still relatively weak." Xuan Yue suddenly produced a folding fan, covering her face with a smile.

"Sure, I'm quite curious about your strength, but since you've both split into two conscious souls, your strength has been reduced. Isn't that a bit much?" Ruo Tuo scratched his head and said.

"Oh, it seems the Dragon King is quite confident in his strength. In that case, please show mercy." Xuan Yue spoke with a smile, but the immortals couldn't help but feel that a fox was smiling.

"Alright, it's finally Xuanqing's turn to fall asleep, so I'm going to have some fun. Where is the human village in Liyue? I'd like to take this opportunity to go and have a look." Xuanyue put away her fan and looked at the immortals gently.

"Well, Gechenlang City should still be on the human side, so please ask King Ruotu to send you there. After all, your divine power is exhausted now, and there's no doubt that other demon gods' spies might try to assassinate you," Lishui said.

"Oh, thank you so much, Dragon King." Xuan Yue bowed to Ruo Tuo to express her gratitude.

"Not at all, we're all comrades, no need to be so polite." Ruoduo quickly returned the bow.

Afterwards, Ruo Tuo took Xuan Yue and left Jue Yun Jian, flying to the town.

"This is where humans live. The usual military training grounds are elsewhere, but Liyue has just been formed, and other demons' people have migrated here, so food shortages are inevitable. But humans can't just starve like this, so Morax came up with a way to let them trade with people from other demon lands, and that's how... uh... that's how it was formed..." Ruoduo suddenly forgot his words and couldn't speak for a long time.

"It's formed an effective cycle, so even if the people of Liyue don't have enough farmland, they can still exchange goods for some food. But recently, war has raged in various places, and the people are starting to run out of food. Even exchanging goods won't get them much. No wonder you're all in such a hurry to take that place." Xuan Yue continued Ruo Tuo's words and analyzed further.

“But as far as I know, besides the Dream Demons, there are quite a few other places near Liyue where demons exist. It’s said that demons love people, but…” Xuan Yue stopped speaking, and Ruo Tuo understood.

"Your personality seems very different from that Xuanqing's. That guy always has a stern face, as if he has no emotions. Does someone like that love people?" Ruo Tuo asked this question unconsciously. He was really curious.

"I won't go into too much detail about what that guy went through, after all, it's his business. But I can tell you this: if you're an enemy who invades the borders of his territory, he'll at most defeat you but spare your life. But if you kill his people and continue to act arrogantly, he'll chase you to the ends of the earth and curse your people until you perish, otherwise he won't rest." Xuan Yue's words made Ruo Tuo break out in a cold sweat. A troublesome opponent isn't scary; what's scary is when your opponent is a desperate man who wants to drag you down with him.

"Luckily, that guy is on our side," Ruo Tuo said, still shaken. "What I feared most was him stripping us of our authority. Once he took it away, it would be a certain death. It was terrifying." Ruo Tuo patted his chest.

"Alright, that guy is a typical example of someone with a sharp tongue but a soft heart. From the moment he was willing to acknowledge my existence to you, it proves that he genuinely considers you his friends. He was quite happy at the time." Xuan Yue said as he strolled around, "Sigh, these little human gadgets are really quite nice." He looked around curiously at the things the children were playing with.

"Do you want it?" Ruoda asked.

"Hello, objectively. These are all homemade, not many, just 5 Mora," the vendor said.

"Mora? What's that?" Xuan Yue was puzzled, as he had no memory of anything called Mora.

"Here you go, keep the change." Ruo Tuo took out five gleaming bronze tokens and handed them to the vendor. Then he placed the purchased items in Xuan Yue's hands.

"This was Morax's idea. The continent eventually needed a unified currency, so he distributed the scales that fell from his body into these copper coins. But because there weren't many, they were only used in Liyue," Rota explained.

“Hmm… Based on what you’ve said, I can roughly guess that these scales were actually plucked off by Morax. Demon gods have tough skin, not to mention a demon god like Morax who wields the power of rock, whose defense is astonishing. It’s impossible for such a being to shed its scales naturally.” Xuan Yue played with the toy in her hand, speculating about its structure.

"Royavis, with your insight, you are definitely not a newly born demon god." Ruo Tuo looked at Xuan Yue's back and changed his address to Royavis.

Xuan Yue paused, neither answering nor turning around. He remained silent for a long time before slowly speaking, "Dragon King, some things are best left unsaid. Too much talk leads to mistakes." Xuan Yue's voice turned cold. When he turned back, Ruo Tuo's pupils constricted. He saw a blurry figure behind Xuan Yue, resembling a young man in his early twenties with gray hair and dazzling gold eyes. He wore a white ancient robe, surrounded by black and gold clouds. His face was obscured, but even this blurry figure exerted immense pressure on Ruo Tuo. But this pressure vanished quickly. Xuan Yue turned around, saying, "Let's go. I haven't had enough yet. It seems someone over there is telling a story."

(This power... is extraordinary...) Ruo Tuo looked at the sweat on his palms, clenched his fist, and then followed Xuan Yue's steps, disappearing into the layers of people...
