"Xiao Yi, over here," Ning Anyuan walked over from the side.

"I just turned around and saw that neither of you followed."

Ning Yi released Ji Yan's sleeve and replied, "You walked too fast."

“Alright, alright, come with me. Mom and the others chose an open-air terrace for their barbecue. The seats are in a corner, so I’ll take you up,” Ning Anyuan continued.

Then they went upstairs together and came to the rooftop.

There weren't many people on the rooftop yet. They saw Gu Ai and An Hui and walked over to them.

"Mom, Aunt An," Ningyi greeted politely.

"Hey, come quick, come quick, Xiao Yi, come and have a taste!" An Hui said to Ning Yi with a smile as she grilled the meat skewers in her hands.

"Your mom and I have been grilling for a while, but those aren't quite done yet. This one's ready, come and try it!"

Just as Ning Yi was about to grab the skewers, Ning Anyuan grabbed her arm and said to An Hui, "Aunt An, you don't know, Xiao Yi is allergic to lamb."

Gu Ai and An Hui were both stunned.

"Xiao Yi is allergic to lamb?" Gu Ai said with some surprise.

Ning Anyuan nodded.

She almost forgot, thankfully she hadn't eaten, otherwise she would have suffered again.

Ning Yi stared at the meat skewers on the table, feeling very distressed. She wanted to eat them but couldn't; she could eat roasted meat but not lamb skewers.

“She’s allergic to mutton. Xiaoyan, go and get some other meat and vegetables. Xiaoyi, have something else to eat,” An Hui continued.

Gu Ai looked at Ning Yi with some heartache and said, "I didn't even know Xiao Yi was allergic to lamb."

"How did you know?" Gu Ai asked Ning Anyuan again.

"Mom, Aunt An, I'll go get some ingredients," Ning Yi said immediately, then turned and ran off.

Ning Anyuan then said, "Ayan isn't comfortable moving around much, Xiaoyi and I will go."

Then he followed Ning Yi downstairs to get the ingredients.

After a while, they brought a lot of ingredients, and everyone sat together to grill the meat.

“An Yuan, you’ll be twenty-six next month. When are you planning to get married?” Gu Ai suddenly asked.

Ning Anyuan, roasting the meat in his hands, replied, "Mom, don't worry about that, I'm not in a hurry."

"You're not in a hurry, but I am. I want to hold my grandson as soon as possible," Gu Ai said irritably.

An Hui chuckled from the side, "Young people these days get married so late."

“Yes, none of my friends are married yet,” Ning Anyuan chimed in.

Gu Ai seemed to remember something and continued, "That Xiao Qi, when I was shopping with his mother last time, she told me that she found a woman's dress in Xiao Qi's apartment."

"And once she saw Xiao Qi walking with a girl outside, and she even said that the girl looked a bit like..."

Ning Yi quickly interrupted, "Mom, try this! Eat it while it's hot, it'll get cold soon."

Gu Ai smiled and took the meat skewers Ning Yi offered, saying, "Good, good, good, my daughter is so considerate."

Ning Yi secretly glanced at Ji Yan beside her, and seeing that he had no expression, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Even without Gu Ai saying it outright, she knew that the girl was Qiao Jiawei.

Gu Ai took a couple of bites of the meat skewer and then continued to Ning Anyuan, "When your dad was your age, you were already old enough to run errands and walk."

“Mom, things are different now than they were in your day. Young people these days prefer to get married later,” Ning Anyuan said with a hint of helplessness.

Gu Ai glared at him: "How late is it? Let's say you're thirty. If you're going to get married at thirty, you should be dating by now. You might have to date several times before you get to the point of marriage."

"Doesn't it take time? Dating takes several years, right? If things continue like this, by the time you get married and have children, you'll be in your mid-thirties, or even forty in a few more years. Some people your age will already be grandfathers, and you'll still be raising your son and daughter."

An Hui agreed, and then added, "That's true. Even if we don't consider marriage now, we should at least consider dating."

"Xiao Yan, what are your thoughts on dating?"

When the topic suddenly turned to Ji Yan, he paused for a moment, then slowly said, "Mom, you know I'm busy with work right now, where would I find the time to date?"

An Hui shook her head helplessly: "Young people these days only work all day long and don't know how to think about themselves. It's not good to push them, and it's not good not to push them either."

Gu Ai shook her head and sighed, "Yes."

"Xiao Yi, are you dating anyone?" An Hui suddenly asked Ning Yi.

Ning Yi was eating when she heard this question and almost choked.

She quickly took a sip of water and waved her hand, saying, "No, no, I'm still early."

“Actually, your dad and I would still approve of you dating in college, after all, your dad and I dated in college too,” Gu Ai put two skewers of food on Ning Yi’s plate.

Gu Ai looked at Ning Yi and said, "University life is wonderful. You should enjoy it now. Even if you have a boy you like, you can boldly give him a try."

"Speaking of which, your dad and I started dating when we were freshmen in college, and we got married right after graduation. Our relationship is still going strong," Gu Ai said with a smile on her face as she reminisced.

An Hui smiled and said, "Yes, you need to talk more about relationships to gain experience, so you'll know what kind of partner you want."

"Mom, please don't mislead Xiaoyi. She's naive and might get tricked by a guy with ulterior motives," Ji Yan interrupted.

An Hui nodded: "That's true. Xiao Yi is so beautiful and kind, we have to be careful when we look at people."

Ji Yan glanced at Ning Yi and then continued, "There are all kinds of people these days; you can't tell a good person from a bad one just by looking at them."

"Xiao Yan is right. Xiao Yi, if anything goes wrong at school or if someone bullies you, you must tell your family right away, okay?" Gu Ai said seriously.

Ning Yi sighed helplessly, then chimed in, "Okay, okay, I know."

When everyone was almost finished eating, Ning Yi and Ning Anyuan went downstairs to get some drinks for everyone.

"Sister, please make me a glass of mango juice, a glass of orange juice, and two glasses of plum juice," Ning Yi said to a server in the beverage section.

"Brother, would you like some juice?"

Ning Anyuan shook his head, then picked up a bottle of mineral water and said, "It's okay, I don't need it."

Then they brought the water up before the juice was ready.

Ning Yi placed two glasses of plum juice in front of Gu Ai and An Hui, and then placed the mango juice in front of Ji Yan.

Ji Yan glanced at her, looking as if he wanted to say something but hesitated, and slowly said, "Thank you."

After everyone finished eating, they sat down on the chairs and rested for a while.

"An Yuan, how are things going between you and Xiao Zhi?" Gu Ai suddenly asked.

Ning Anyuan immediately felt a headache coming on: "Mom, please stop trying to match us up. There's really no way we can be together."

Gu Ai continued, "Xiao Zhi is a returnee from overseas, she's beautiful, speaks well, and has a cheerful personality. Plus, her family is on such good terms with ours."

"What's wrong with him/her? He/She isn't good enough for you?"

Ning Anyuan felt a tightness in his chest as he thought about it. He said in a low voice, "Forced love is never sweet. She's a good person, but I just can't bring myself to like her."

Gu Ai compromised, "Okay, okay, I won't force you. Find whatever you like."
