"Captain Layton, the TSXY wormhole has been detected. Should we initiate an emergency jump?"

The vice-captain reported, his eyes fixed eagerly on the wormhole that had appeared before them. If the jump was successful, they could survive.

"Notify the fleet that the shield is overloaded and emergency warp has been initiated. Countdown: one minute."

Captain Layton gave the order with a calm expression, but his clenched hands betrayed his state of mind.

The fleet was thrown into a frenzy; whether they survived today depended on this one minute.

As a result, the shield of the Cabronola civilization fleet visibly solidified, and the plasma tail flames at its tail suddenly erupted, as if it were accumulating power.

That one minute felt like an eternity; every crew member was mentally counting down the seconds, those were the most important 60 seconds of their lives.

“45, 44…31…30…”

Halfway through their lives, it felt as if half of their lives had been halved.

The short 30 seconds relieved a lot of their inner pressure. In just another 30 seconds, they will be reborn.

They prayed and hoped that nothing would go wrong in those final 30 seconds, or they would be doomed.

In the captain's chair, Captain Layton was no longer as composed as usual. His eyes were fixed on the few remaining seconds. He was also praying that he could bring the remaining fleet members back safely, and that their families would be waiting for their return.

But the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. The thunderous alarm shattered their expectations; what was bound to happen had finally arrived.

A communications soldier, whose eyes were fixed on the radar detector, suddenly changed his expression, and a trembling voice rang out:

"Captain, we've been locked on. The beast civilization has launched its attack, and we'll be hit in less than ten seconds."

Hearing the constant alarms coming from the command center, Captain Layton no longer needed his reminders; he already knew.

He had actually expected this sudden situation. After all, they had been chased for a month and were still being attacked at this level. It seemed suspicious. Those beasts were just playing with them.

Faced with this outcome, Captain Layton had no intention of giving up. His tense body suddenly stood up, and he roared the order:

"All fleet, halt warp drive, activate overload propulsion, and begin evading enemy attacks."

With the order given, the fleet stopped warping, and the lateral steering power began to operate under overload. The plasma flames that spewed out were so dazzling, a testament to their will to survive.

While admirable, it was too late. In just ten seconds, there wasn't enough time to convert power. This is why the beast-body civilization attacked at this critical juncture; they had no choice, as they were doomed either way.

Captain Layton witnessed all of this; he was filled with hatred, yet he was helpless.

"It's too late! It's too late!"

Captain Layton slumped weakly in his captain's chair and sighed helplessly.

At that moment, suppressed sobs erupted from the command room. At that moment, they understood their fate, which was irreversible.

They have ten seconds left before their lives end.

“10…9…8…7…6……”

In the final four seconds, everyone silently closed their eyes, accepting their fate with equanimity.

Just then, a spatial fluctuation suddenly appeared directly behind the Divine River Civilization, and within a few seconds, a massive body abruptly appeared on the battlefield.

As the attack from the beast-body civilization was about to strike, this massive vessel successfully blocked the attack from the divine river-body civilization, forming a shield for them.

As the four seconds ended, a deafening roar resounded. The violent shockwave caused the members of the Divine River Civilization's fleet to lose their footing. Screams erupted from inside the ship, as if death had befallen them. But then, they sensed something was wrong. Their bewildered eyes darted around, and finally, their gazes fell upon the projected image. A massive black shadow blocked their path between life and death.

They didn't know what this god-like being was; all they knew was that they were still alive.

……

Rewind five seconds, and after a spacetime-distorting wormhole jump, the Sword of Judgment successfully arrived at the other end of the wormhole.

"Boss, we are about to exit the wormhole and jump. Please prepare."

Number One provided timely reminders.

Glenn was incredibly excited about the world that was about to unfold; he was finally leaving that awful place.

So after Number One gave the warning, Glenn, just in case, opened the shield of the Sword of Judgment to its maximum. When facing an unknown world, it is still necessary to have some awareness of precautions.

"Come! New world, your guests are about to arrive."

Faced with such an important moment, Glenn, unusually, made a declaration in a somewhat childish manner.

"Initiating the termination of wormhole jump."

As Number One's voice came, the scene in front of Glenn changed, and the distortion of the surrounding wormhole space disappeared instantly.

But to Glenn's surprise, the world played a cruel joke on him as soon as he finished the wormhole jump.

"Warning! Warning! An unknown attack is imminent. Prepare for the impact."

"Walter?"

Glenn saw a sudden burst of white light, followed by a terrifying explosion on the protective shield. At the same time, he felt a sense of déjà vu, like a magnitude 12 earthquake.

"I…*…*…*…"

In this way, Glenn was completely bewildered.

After a full ten seconds, Number One finally appeared, his face grave, and approached Glenn, who was lying on the ground, saying:

"Boss, it seems we've been attacked, and the power is considerable, at least at the planet-destroying level. Fortunately, our shield has been modified and has blocked the attack."

"..."

Glenn endured the churning of his internal organs, unable to utter a single word.

Seeing that his boss didn't respond, Number One tentatively asked:

"Boss, are you listening? Boss, are you still alive?"

"you…"

Glenn suppressed his discomfort and muttered something.

It seemed Number One hadn't heard clearly, so the virtual body crouched down slightly and asked cautiously:

"Boss, what's wrong with me?"

After a long while, Glenn finally recovered from his discomfort. Looking at Number One, who was so close, he cursed with a grim expression:

"Are you hoping I die so you can go it alone?!"

"Forehead!"

Number One was speechless. It seemed like it had stepped on a landmine. Although it sometimes had such thoughts, a thought is a thought precisely because it is impossible!

He stood up shakily, found a seat at random, and began to ask:

"What just happened? How did we get attacked?"

Glenn's question interrupted Number One's reverie, and he quickly became serious and said:

"Just a moment ago, we were hit by a concentrated attack, the total power of which reached the level of planet destruction."

Glenn was taken aback and said in confusion:

"Why are we being targeted? We just escaped the wormhole and haven't had a chance to provoke any other enemies yet!"

Faced with Glenn's doubts, Number One fully demonstrated its power. With a wave of its hand, two projections appeared in front of Glenn. This was its immediate response after being attacked, and the specific situation was also detected.

Number One pointed to the two projections and said:

"Boss, look, it seems we've gotten ourselves into a showdown."

"Ok?"

Glenn looked up, a look of surprise involuntarily appearing in his eyes.

"Am I just using myself as a shield for others?"
