Traveling to ancient times, with space

Chapter 63 Leaving for the Winter

The county magistrate was trying to get more details out of the county and hadn't slept all night.

Su Yue slept soundly until dawn.

After washing up in the space, Chun Tao helped him comb his hair and then started making breakfast.

They set off early this morning, and by late afternoon they could see the town in the distance. But just like the last one, the city gates were hastily closed before Su Yue's carriage could even get close.

Su Yue, who was once again locked outside the city gates, was completely baffled.

What's going on?! Does she look scary?

Why did the city gate close as soon as I got close? The speed at which it closed was ridiculously fast.

Su Yue, fuming inside the carriage, munched on a peach, completely baffled as to what had happened.

The refugees following behind had no intention of entering the city; they simply planned to follow Su Yue, moving with her and stopping when she heard them.

After what happened with the old woman yesterday, the refugees all moved away from the carriage, afraid of disturbing the gods' rest.

Shen Lerong was so happy that she couldn't stop smiling because she was almost home.

After traveling for two more days, they will be arriving at Dingnan Prefecture and will soon be able to see his father. He wonders how his mother is doing.

The thought of her mother being separated from her by the refugees, and not knowing where her mother was, made her want to cry.

His happy expression vanished instantly, and his eyes were brimming with tears that seemed about to fall.

Su Yue, who was initially angry and struggling with the peach, stopped eating it after seeing how quickly Shen Lerong changed her expression.

This girl is truly made of water!

After traveling for two days, when they arrived at Dingnan Prefecture, they waited outside the city gate for a whole day, but the gate did not open.

Su Yue and Dali squatted on a small earthen mound, cracking sunflower seeds while watching Shen Lerong and Chun Tao knock on the city gate.

"Hey, Dali, they've been knocking on the city gate for almost a whole day, why isn't it open yet? Are those two liars scammers?" Su Yue spat out a sunflower seed shell.

Dali's head is full of food, what does he know? He shook his head while cracking sunflower seeds.

Shen Lerong and Chun Tao's hands trembled and swelled from banging, and their voices became hoarse from shouting, but no one opened the city gate for them.

With red and swollen eyes, she returned to Su Yue's side dejectedly, not caring that the mound of dirt was dirty, and sat down and started wailing.

Su Yue shamelessly leaned closer and asked, "Is this really the city your father governs? How come you don't even recognize it!"

Shen Lerong originally thought Su Yue was coming over to comfort her, but she didn't expect her to be there to hurt her. She cried even louder with her already hoarse voice.

Su Yue cracked open the last sunflower seed in her hand and patted it.

Then he started to sigh.

"Sigh! What's the point of even trying to get in? We can't even get into one of the cities."

Su Yue simply stopped at the foot of a mountain five miles outside the city.

What the hell?! They're trying to escape a bear?!

We've practically fled half the country, from drought to torrential rain, and now to this freezing weather that's almost deadly.

There wasn't a single town they could enter; it was as if she were more terrifying than a flood or a ferocious beast.

If you won't let me into the city, then I'll stay nearby and see when you open the city gates.

There is a large open space at the foot of the mountain, and there is also a stream nearby. The terrain is also quite high.

Su Yue took out the three carriages she had acquired from the Qian family from her spatial storage, intending to stay there for a few days. The weather was getting cold, and Dali was freezing while driving the carriage in front.

Su Yue lived in one of the three carriages, Dali lived in another, and Shen Lerong and her maid Chun Tao lived in the third.

The refugees who had been following behind also found places to rest nearby.

From the original hundred or so refugees, the number gradually increased until now, reaching five or six thousand, almost filling the area.

Ten men formed their own teams, and then the dozens of leaders gathered together to discuss whether they could exchange some more food with Su Yue.

After discussing the matter, they first sent someone to where Su Yue was. The person stood at a distance and began to shout, "This humble citizen, Wang Degui, has something to ask of the little immortal. I hope the little immortal will come out and see me."

Just when Wang Degui thought no one would pay attention to him and he was about to leave disappointed, he saw the curtain of the carriage being opened from the inside, and a person slowly walked out. It was the little immortal he had asked to see.

Looking at the person in front of her, Su Yue roughly understood his purpose.

She smiled slightly and said softly, "What do you need me for?"

Wang Degui bowed respectfully, "Little deity, we refugees have followed the refugees all the way here, and now we have nowhere to go. Could you please exchange some more food for us? We would be eternally grateful and will certainly not allow those ungrateful people to appear again."

Su Yue thought for a while before saying, "I plan to stay here for a while. Tell the refugees that I need some people who know how to build houses. They will pay me with some food every day. They can also exchange things for food at night, but only for half an hour."

Upon hearing that the little deity needed workers, Wang Degui was overjoyed and immediately knelt down to kowtow and express his gratitude. He then shared this good news with the displaced people.

Before long, Wang Defa and ten other men arrived, each with about a hundred men behind them.

Su Yue was startled when she saw so many people. She hadn't paid much attention to the refugees following behind her these past two days, and she was surprised to find that there were so many.

Su Yue, who originally only wanted to build two small wooden houses, simply told people to wait.

He went back to the carriage, entered the space, found paper and pen, and began to draw.

With so many people, there's no harm in using them. If we're going to build one, let's build a good one. When we're done living there, we can store them in our space.

From now on, I can stay anywhere I go; I'll never be afraid of living in the wild again.

Su Yue quickly drew three house plans.

Su Yue handed the blueprints to Wang Degui and instructed him to build the house according to the blueprints.

A picture shows only three large wooden houses, with an additional house on each side.

One of them is a two-story villa with a balcony.

The last one is huge; it's practically a large mansion.

Once Wang Degui received the blueprints, he and his experienced builders immediately got to work, enthusiastically cutting down trees nearby.

As she worked into the evening, Su Yue saw that the wooden house on the first blueprint was almost finished.

This speed is comparable to China's infrastructure development prowess.

They worked until nightfall before dragging their exhausted bodies to collect their food.

But their faces were no longer lifeless. The leader took the grain and distributed it to them one by one.

Some of the migrants, whose families lacked able-bodied men, would also take the opportunity during the breaks between exchanging grain to ask if there were any other jobs available for them to do.

Later, Su Yue found several chefs who used to be head chefs in restaurants and experienced pastry chefs.

Several carpenters worked overtime to build Su Yue a simple wooden bed in the room so she could make do for the night.

We'll make her a new bed tomorrow.
