Chapter 41: Exploring a Mysterious Force, the Female Protagonist Seeks the Truth

There was no one behind her, not even a ghost in sight. Dai Yao cursed inwardly, realizing she had fallen for a diversionary tactic!

Turning back, Lei Po and the others were nowhere to be seen. The dark figure they had been clutching had vanished without a trace, leaving only the little spirit blinking innocently. Dai Yao felt her blood pressure soar. These guys were faster than rabbits!

"Little imp, just who are they?"

Dai Yao tried hard to suppress her anger and asked with a forced smile. The little spirit shrank back and said weakly, "They...they're all here to steal the 'Heavenly Star Grass'."

"Heavenly Star Grass?" Dai Yao raised an eyebrow. She was familiar with this stuff; it was the main ingredient for refining Breakthrough Pills. No wonder these people were like hungry wolves.

"What other forces are behind them?" The little sprite hesitated for a moment, then shook her head: "I don't know..."

Dai Yao didn't believe her. This little girl was cunning and surely knew something. But now wasn't the time to interrogate her; the most important thing was to find those guys and retrieve the shadowy figure.

Over the next few days, Dai Yao embarked on a frantic search. She went to a sect to consult its scriptures, but as soon as she asked to see certain special texts, the sect's conservative faction jumped out to make things difficult for her, accusing her of spying on sect secrets and demanding her expulsion.

Dai Yao was anxious, but remained outwardly calm. She argued that she was only investigating a mysterious force and would not reveal any secrets, promising to share any useful clues with the sect. After some negotiation, the sect reluctantly agreed to let her continue her investigation. However, after searching for a long time, she found nothing.

She then visited people in the martial arts world and met a seemingly enthusiastic person who said he knew some information about a mysterious force.

Dai Yao was full of anticipation, but the man turned out to be a swindler who deliberately misled her to a remote place and set a trap to harm her and steal her belongings. Dai Yao struggled to escape the danger, which led her astray for a time.

Dai Yao didn't give up, but the mysterious force seemed to have vanished into thin air, leaving no trace. Dai Yao felt like she was about to have an emotional breakdown; this was harder than finding a needle in a haystack!

Just when Dai Yao was about to give up, a tattered old book caught her attention.

The book looked unremarkable, covered in dust, as if it had been forgotten for centuries. Dai Yao casually flipped it open and discovered some clues about a mysterious force inside.

According to historical records, this mysterious force seems to be related to an ancient ruin. Dai Yao's eyes lit up immediately; wasn't this exactly what she had been searching for? She set off for the ruin, her heart filled with anticipation.

After several days of trekking, Dai Yao finally arrived at the site of the ruins. It was a desolate valley, filled with broken walls and ruins, and the air was filled with an ancient and mysterious aura. Dai Yao cautiously entered the ruins and found that it was more complicated than she had imagined.

Just as Dai Yao was searching around, she suddenly heard a voice: "You...you actually found this place..."

As soon as Dai Yao stepped into the depths of the ruins, she heard a sarcastic voice: "Oh, isn't this Dai Yao, the big shot of our Demon Palace? What makes you interested in these ancient ruins?" Dai Yao rolled her eyes. She didn't even need to turn around to know who it was—Lei Po, the "boss" of the Lei Ling Sect. He failed to steal the black shadow last time, and now he's here to deliver his head to the wall.

Lei Po, along with Ling Mu and the others, blocked Dai Yao's path aggressively, displaying an attitude of "this road is mine, this tree is mine."

"Hand over the clues, or you're not leaving today!"

Lei Po arrogantly boasted, as if the clues in Dai Yao's hands were already his for the taking. Dai Yao scoffed, first releasing a powerful aura, causing Lei Po's lightning spiritual power to weaken as he approached her. Dai Yao fearlessly retorted, "You think I'm afraid of you? Haven't you learned your lesson after being utterly humiliated by that mysterious force last time?"

Lei Po's face darkened; the previous experience was a pain that would never fade from his heart.

Enraged, he unleashed a torrent of lightning energy, even more ferocious than before, charging straight at Dai Yao.

"Oh dear, are you angry because you're embarrassed? Come here, let's play together!"

Dai Yao was not to be outdone. While she was talking, her hands were moving quickly. She swiftly used the surrounding ruins to set up several simple defensive formations. When Lei Po's attacks hit them, they kicked up clouds of dust.

Taking advantage of the dust cloud, Dai Yao cast a deceptive illusion, taunting Lei Po as she did so: "With your meager skills, you dare to flaunt your power in front of me?" Lei Po and the others felt a blur before their eyes, and the surrounding scenery began to distort and warp, making it impossible to distinguish east from west. Their previously aggressive attacks lost their direction, and they began fighting amongst themselves.

"That's it? You dare to stop me?"

Dai Yao looked at Lei Po and the others, who were in complete chaos, and a mocking smile appeared on her lips. She flashed away like a ghost, creating a whirlwind in her wake, blowing Lei Po and the others off course.

"Stop! Don't run!" Lei Po roared, but found himself disoriented and could only spin in circles. Dai Yao's figure disappeared into the depths of the ruins, leaving only a light, airy voice: "Bye-bye!"

Suddenly, a strange whisper echoed from the depths of the ruins: "She...she's here..."

After shaking off her "pig teammates," Dai Yao hummed a little tune and leisurely strolled deeper into the ruins. The ruins looked dilapidated from the outside, but inside they were a completely different world, with carved beams and painted rafters, so magnificent it was almost comical.

"Wow, whose vacation villa is this?!" Dai Yao exclaimed, looking around as if afraid of missing some treasure.

She strolled along, arriving at what resembled an altar. In the center of the altar sat a stone emitting a faint blue light. "This thing looks familiar..." Dai Yao stroked her chin, trying to remember. Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck her. "Isn't this the legendary 'Heavenly Secret Stone'? It's said to be able to predict the future and bring good fortune while avoiding misfortune!" Dai Yao's eyes lit up, and she rubbed her hands together, preparing to touch this treasure.

Just as she was about to touch the Heavenly Secret Stone, a sweet, delicate voice suddenly rang out: "Fairy sister, is this what you're looking for?" Dai Yao was startled and turned around sharply, only to see a tiny sprite, no bigger than a palm, fluttering its transparent wings, hovering in mid-air. In the sprite's hand was a jade slip containing clues about special materials.

"Little darling, who are you?"

Dai Yao asked warily. "My name is Little Spirit~" Little Spirit blinked her big eyes and said in a childish voice, "I know what you're looking for~ If you do me a small favor, I'll give it to you."

Upon hearing this, Dai Yao became interested: "What kind of help is it? Tell me about it."

The little sprite pointed to the Heavenly Mystery Stone on the altar: "Help me move this stone away~" Dai Yao's heart skipped a beat. This stone looked extraordinary. She considered the potential risks of doing this favor, but couldn't bear to refuse because of the little sprite's cuteness and helplessness. In the end, she said, "That's it?"

"What's so strange about this stone?" Dai Yao felt things weren't so simple. The little sprite sighed and said like a little adult, "Sigh, it's just that this stone is too heavy and it's weighing down my flowers and plants~" Dai Yao: ...

Just as Dai Yao was about to roll up her sleeves and move the stones, a sinister voice came from beneath the altar: "Who dares to touch the Heavenly Secret Stone!" A withered hand suddenly emerged from the ground and grabbed the little spirit. Dai Yao reacted quickly, grabbing the little spirit's other hand and struggling against the withered hand. Good heavens, this grip was like an iron clamp! Dai Yao thought to herself, this wasn't a withered hand, it was clearly an iron claw!

"Oh my god, who are you? You scared me!"

Dai Yao asked irritably as she exerted force. A chilling laugh echoed from underground: "Little girl, meddling in other people's business comes at a price!" The words had barely left her lips when the ground began to tremble violently, and the stone pillars surrounding the altar started to collapse. Dai Yao knew inwardly, "This is bad, they're really going to do it!"

"Little Spirit, can you still fly?" Dai Yao asked. The little spirit shook its head pitifully, "My wings have been grabbed..." Dai Yao took a deep breath; it seemed she had no choice but to tough it out! With a strong pull, she actually managed to free the little spirit from the iron claw! "Run!" Dai Yao scooped up the little spirit and took off running.

Behind them, the owner of the iron claw finally emerged from the ground. He was emaciated, his face deathly pale, but his eyes gleamed with an eerie green light—a veritable zombie! "Trying to run? Not so easy!"

The zombie roared and chased after Dai Yao.

Holding the little spirit, Dai Yao dodged and weaved through the ruins like a parkour expert. The ruins were of unknown construction, riddled with traps and mechanisms. Dai Yao accidentally stepped on a loose stone slab. "Crack—" The slab sank, and Dai Yao felt her foot slip and fell. "Ah—" Dai Yao's scream echoed through the ruins. The little spirit clung tightly to Dai Yao's neck, trembling with fear.

Dai Yao fell into a dark hole and was completely disoriented.

She rubbed her bottom, got up from the ground, and found herself in a dark, damp cave.

"Hiss... What kind of place is this?" Dai Yao complained. Suddenly, she sensed a chilling aura emanating from the depths of the cave. Dai Yao cautiously looked into the depths and saw a pair of eerie green eyes gleaming in the darkness. "A Shadow Spirit...?!" the little spirit exclaimed. "You recognize this thing?" Dai Yao asked.

The little spirit nodded: "He is... the guardian of the Heavenly Mystery Stone..." Dai Yao: ...So all my efforts were just to release this thing from under the stone?

The Shadow Spirit slowly emerged from the darkness, revealing its ferocious face. It extended its long tongue, licked its lips, and uttered in a hoarse voice, "Fresh... soul..." Dai Yao remained calm, picked up a stone from the ground, and infused it with her spiritual power. The stone instantly emitted a dazzling light, and she hurled it at the Shadow Spirit. As the Shadow Spirit dodged, Dai Yao used the cave's terrain to engage in a thrilling chase. During the pursuit, Dai Yao continuously set traps using the surrounding environment, while the Shadow Spirit constantly evaded them. The process was tense, exciting, and full of suspense.

The Shadow Spirit suddenly stopped, raised its head, and looked towards the entrance of the cave, a hint of fear flashing in its eyes.

“Oh no…” it murmured, “They…are here…”

"Who?"

Before Dai Yao could react, she heard footsteps approaching. Then, several figures appeared at the cave entrance. "It really is here!" a familiar voice rang out. Dai Yao looked up and saw... Lei Po!

"You..." Before Dai Yao could speak, she saw Xue Ying, Ling Mu, Xing Yan, and others following behind Lei Po... "How come you..." "Hehe, little girl, didn't expect that, did you?" Xing Yan grinned slyly, "We knew you would come here!"

Dai Yao: ...These guys were actually following her! "What do you want?" Dai Yao asked warily. Lei Po sneered: "What do we want? Of course, we want to..." He paused, his eyes turning sinister, "...take your life!"
