Silly Zhu's Moving: The Old Neighbor's Nightmare
Chapter 4 Shopping at the Mall
One of the bosses had a darting eye and a fierce look in his eyes. He didn't want to leave. Sha Zhu was too lazy to cause trouble and was afraid that if he killed someone, someone else would come looking for him. So he pulled out his pistol and told him to get lost.
The business owners, upon seeing this, were so frightened that they ran away in a panic, scattering in all directions.
Once they had disappeared from sight, Sha Zhu stored all the livestock in his spatial storage.
We walked towards the city gate. It took about half an hour before we saw the thick city wall.
There were about two or three hundred people working there, most of whom came spontaneously. Some were knocking on the city wall, some were clearing bricks, some were driving oxcarts and horse-drawn carts to haul bricks, and some children were helping out or playing nearby.
Sha Zhu's arrival went unnoticed; everyone assumed he was just a kid playing nearby.
After looking around and finding it crowded with people, Sha Zhu couldn't operate the machine and had no choice but to leave.
Chickens, ducks, geese and all kinds of livestock wandered around the space, but there was nothing to eat. The bees were trapped in the hives and couldn't get out. Even if they did get out, there were no plants for them to collect from. However, it could accelerate the growth of plants, but they were afraid that their mental strength wouldn't be able to hold up outside. If they fainted on the roadside, it would be a great loss.
We should also avoid going to the farmers' market, lest we attract the attention of those with ulterior motives.
Following the road back, I passed a grain store and bought 300 jin of wheat bran, 300 jin of cornmeal, 100 jin of rice, 100 jin of wheat flour, 100 jin of millet, and two barrels of soybean oil. After settling the bill with the owner, I asked the shop assistant to transport the goods to an empty alley. After unloading the goods, I chased away the shop assistant and, seeing that no one was around, went back to my spatial dimension.
There are 300 catties of wheat bran in here, enough for human consumption. It would probably be gone in two or three days if used to feed the livestock in the space. We still need to buy some pasture seeds.
I looked around the space; it was a complete mess. I first surrounded the ancient well with beds and cabinets, then ransacked the entire two-courtyard house, which had more than a dozen rooms. There were plenty of beds and cabinets, though; I didn't want these animals to mess it up.
We still need to find some timber to pen up these livestock. We have plenty of time this afternoon, but there's no rush. We can take our time.
Asking passersby about the nearby flower market, it turned out to be not far from the farmers' market, just two streets away. Sha Zhu strolled along, passing a century-old traditional Chinese medicine shop called Tongrentang. It's an old brand, founded during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, and has a history of nearly three hundred years.
Sha Zhu found an old shopkeeper and inquired about the seeds at the pharmacy. Making it clear he had plenty of money, he asked the shopkeeper to get him all the seeds he could sell.
The shopkeeper didn't dare sell too much, since he was selling medicine. Seeing that Sha Zhu was willing to spend money, he gave Sha Zhu a small amount of each kind of plantable herb seeds.
Isatis root, Atractylodes macrocephala, honeysuckle, Astragalus membranaceus, licorice, Scutellaria baicalensis, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Paeonia lactiflora, wolfberry, Adenophora stricta, Gastrodia elata, safflower, Belamcanda chinensis, wild ginseng, forest ginseng, garden ginseng, and many other herbs whose names he didn't know or whose uses he didn't know. Sha Zhu didn't care, he just put them all away, paid the bill, and walked out of Tongrentang.
Arriving at the flower market, I found the largest store and asked the owner about pasture seeds.
Upon learning that all kinds of seeds were available, I asked the owner for thirty catties of various seeds, including chicory, rye grass, alfalfa, and corn grass, as well as five catties of other harmless forage grass seeds.
After payment, using the same method, lead the helper to an empty alley, have the helper unload the goods and leave, and then store the seeds in your space.
Next, all you need to do is find some wood or bricks to fence off the various livestock. If they are to be free-range, in order not to damage the planted grains and medicinal herbs, you will need a lot of wood and bricks, which you can't buy.
It seems I should buy a small amount first and keep them in a small area. Later, when I have more time, I can go to the deep mountains and forests to gather more trees, or collect more bricks for the city walls.
I passed by a general store and asked the owner. They didn't have chainsaws, only hand saws, so I bought several hand saws and several boxes of saw blades.
I asked the shopkeeper where the nearest timber processing plant was. After leaving the general store, I felt a bit lost. It was more than five miles away. I had been walking all day, and my legs were almost numb.
Looks like I need to buy a bicycle. I remember the department store isn't far from here, so I walked towards the store while shopping.
Today is the weekend, and many people are off work. As you walk near the shopping mall, the crowds increase and they all converge on the department store.
The entrance to the department store was packed with people, a dense sea of heads. Slowly pushing my way inside with the flow of people, oh my god, following behind the crowd, stopping every step of the way, my scalp tingled.
Once inside the building, the crowd dispersed, and it finally felt a little less crowded. It was a four-story building. After asking the clerk at the counter where the bicycles were sold, I wasn't in a hurry to buy one and instead wandered around the building.
This place has everything imaginable, and Sha Zhu didn't hold back. He bought anything he felt he could buy or use without hesitation.
I spent the whole day shopping today, buying all sorts of grains, vegetables, seeds, medicinal herbs, pasture, and livestock. I've spent less than two thousand yuan on grains so far. With over thirty thousand yuan in cash, I can't possibly spend it all; I can spend it however I want. Not to mention I have gold and silver jewelry as backup.
ABC Mickey Mouse candy—isn't that the predecessor of White Rabbit candy? What? Purchase limit? Half a pound per person. Silly Zhu was speechless. The customer explained that production was low, and only two pounds remained. Although it was a luxury item for ordinary people, the low production capacity simply wasn't enough to meet demand.
Sha Zhu had no choice but to buy half a jin (2.5 kg) of candy and two jin (1 kg) of fruit hard candy. After leaving the candy section, he went to the backpack section, bought a large backpack that fit him, and then started his crazy antics again. He put the candy in the backpack, and when he put the backpack on, the fruit had already gone into a storage cabinet in his spatial storage.
Clothes and shoes? No way. Too lazy to try them on. They're not suitable for me right now. I'm still growing; I need to keep a low profile. What's the point of dressing so nicely? I'd rather stock up on fabric. Fabric? No more fabric. Buying too much would be too much to carry, and buying too little would be a waste of time.
Sha Zhu walked, looked, and bought along the way. Food, tobacco and alcohol, daily necessities, enamel mugs, enamel basins, large flashlights, sailor shirts, Warrior shoes, thermos flasks, Seagull shampoo, enamel stainless steel, cosmetics such as Pechoin, Wan Zi Qian Hong, Friendship, Violet, Miqi, Vaseline and Olay, and medical and hygiene products—the variety was truly dazzling and comprehensive.
There are many things I need, so I plan to browse the entire four floors and buy whatever I need.
I'll buy two alarm clocks. Two watches, too. They'll cost over 500. Fine, I'll buy one expensive and one cheap. Wearing a cheap one probably won't be low-key.
On the street, I reckon out of ten people aren't wearing watches; they'll have to keep their watches handy. Passing by the book section, a group of children were squatting on the ground, flipping through comic books.
Alright, I picked out a few sets of comic books, including Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Journey to the West, and Water Margin, more than 20 books in total. I also picked out a few books on agricultural planting, postpartum care for sows, and infrastructure construction.
I selected several books, including the Compendium of Materia Medica, identification of Chinese medicinal herbs, and basic theoretical knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine. Based on the principle of buying them even if I didn't intend to read them, I paid and left.
The books were a bit heavy, and my backpack was almost full. I carried the backpack up to the second floor, and when I reached the top, no one was paying attention to me; my backpack was already empty.
The second floor also had all kinds of pastries, such as donkey rolls, jujube flower pastries, ox tongue biscuits, hawthorn pot cakes, sugar-coated sesame cakes, pea flour cakes, almond tofu, Sachima, and wisteria cakes. Many of these pastries belonged to the "Eight Treasures of Beijing" from this period. Sha Zhu bought a little of each kind, and only when he knew that his backpack was full and he had to carry them in both hands did he move on to other areas.
I'm attracting attention; many people on the street are pointing and whispering, I don't know if it's envy or jealousy, I need to leave quickly.
When we got to the clothing section, it was easier to put the pastries in my backpack since they were covered by clothes. I bought several kinds of cotton hats, leather hats, velvet hats, single-layer caps, and two of each kind of children's hats.
Upon arriving at the glove section, I took two pairs each of adult and children's gloves. Even then, my backpack wasn't big enough. So I had to move to another area and leave the vicinity.
He mentally scanned the surroundings as he walked, and breathed a sigh of relief when he found no one paying attention to him. Children's toys. Useless.
Rain is six years old now, not a little kid anymore. He doesn't play with small toys anymore and should be going to school. His big toys are too big to fit in his backpack, so he has to leave.
