"By the way, I still don't know your name. I can't just keep calling you 'female'!" He Yu accepted the medicine powder, but he was already prepared to offer something of equal value in exchange.
"My name is Chu Xinyao."
"He Yu, the young patriarch of the Crane Clan."
Young clan leader?
Chu Xinyao looked at He Yu with some surprise, feeling that she was really lucky. Since transmigrating to this beast world, she had only encountered beastmen with the status of clan leaders or young clan leaders. The young Hu Xiao, who broke through on his own, seemed to be the young clan leader of the Tiger Clan, and now she had met He Yu, the young clan leader of the Crane Clan.
Then there's Mo, the chieftain of the Mo Snake tribe, a position that commands respect within the tribe. However, Mo always downplays his role as a traveling merchant, though Chu Xinyao knows the two carts behind him are indeed carrying various goods.
Chu Xinyao noticed that whenever their caravan entered a new tribe, the local orcs would greet Mo with an almost reverent attitude. Their eyes were full of respect, and some tribal chiefs would even personally come forward to conduct lengthy transactions with Mo. This kind of treatment was definitely not something an ordinary traveling merchant could enjoy.
Even in a relatively large town like Lingdie Town, Mo's residence was the largest, which made Chu Xinyao even more certain that there must be more aspects of Mo's identity that she had not yet discovered.
Chu Xinyao's eyes lit up, and she suddenly felt that the gentle and lovely Mo had become mysterious.
She turned her head and looked at He Yu, saying, "Young Clan Chief He, how did you get this injury? Weren't you chased away by those females?"
"Just call me Heyu or Yu. My injuries..." The person who attacked him reeked of snakes, and he was tied up in this courtyard when he woke up. What didn't he understand?
He looked at Chu Xinyao's beautiful face, and after understanding why she had suffered this ordeal, he laughed and said, "It was just a sneak attack by a villain. But, as for you, why were you in Lord Mo's courtyard? Xinyao, you're not a member of the Ink Serpent Clan, are you?"
"No, I am! But I will be soon." Chu Xinyao blushed slightly. Having been through many romantic encounters, she naturally knew that she had fallen for Mo.
He Yu's expression hardened, and he asked somewhat seriously, "You want to become a partner with someone from the Ink Serpent Clan? Are you serious?"
"of course."
He hesitated for a moment, then continued, "Is it Lord Mo? Do you really know what kind of person he is? You're not being deceived by him, you..."
“Young Clan Chief He,” Chu Xinyao’s face turned cold, her eyes showing displeasure. “I love Mo, and Mo loves me too. I will not be easily deceived by anyone.”
Looking into Chu Xinyao's resolute eyes, He Yu felt a surge of helplessness. He knew that love was a dangerous thing. Once someone was caught in the whirlpool of love, they wouldn't listen to any advice from others. However, given the infamous Ink Serpent Tribe, he felt he had to try again.
“Xinyao, I know you might not listen right now, but I still want to remind you that the reputation of the Ink Serpent Clan is not good throughout the continent. Moreover, Lord Ink's methods and thoughts are far more complicated than you imagine.” He Yu’s voice carried a hint of worry.
Chu Xinyao frowned slightly; she didn't like hearing others describe Mo like that. In her heart, Mo was so gentle, and his smile was as innocent as a harmless rabbit. Not to mention, he shared her views on choosing a partner: one person for life, one love—something no one else in this backward beast world could do.
"Young Master He, speaking ill of others behind their backs is not the behavior of a gentleman. It's late, I need to rest. Since your injuries are healed, you should leave as soon as possible!" She directly gave him the order to leave.
He Yu sighed, knowing that continuing would only make Chu Xinyao more disgusted. He stood up and prepared to leave.
"Alright, I won't disturb your rest any longer." A flash of white light appeared at his fingertips, and a white feather appeared in his hand. "I hope you'll accept this feather. If you encounter danger, it can protect you." He placed the feather on the table.
Chu Xinyao heard a soft creak at the window, and then the crane feather vanished from the room. She turned around and saw the white feather lying quietly on the table. Bathed in moonlight, the feather shimmered with a soft luster, appearing exceptionally pure and noble.
She picked up the feather and felt the warmth it contained.
"Hmph, you speak ill of Mo, I don't want your things." After she finished speaking, she made a move to throw it out the window.
[Sigh!] Long Tingting, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly sighed.
The sigh interrupted Chu Xinyao's attempt to throw it out the window.
"[Sister Ting?]" Chu Xinyao was overjoyed.
But Long Tingting ignored her and Chu Xinyao, holding the feather in her hand, felt uneasy.
Why did Sister Ting suddenly sigh? Could it be because of this feather? She looked at the feather in her hand, which emitted a soft glow. Maybe she should just accept it! Didn't Crane Feather just say that this feather could protect her if she encountered danger?
[Sister Ting, maybe I should accept it.]
Whether it was because of what she said or not, Chu Xinyao felt the air around her begin to move, and the oppressive feeling from before dissipated.
[Okay, Sister Ting, I understand. I'll take good care of it.] Chu Xinyao said silently to herself, putting the feather into the cabinet.
Outside the window, the night was as dark as ink, and the figure of He Yu appeared and disappeared among the swaying shadows of the trees. His gaze remained fixed on Chu Xinyao's window until he saw her turn off the light, at which point he breathed a slight sigh of relief.
He knew that what he had said tonight might have bothered her, but he hadn't said anything without reason.
Carefully avoiding the guards in the courtyard, his movements were light and silent, like a ghost in the night. He was quite confident in his stealth skills, but just as he was about to leave the courtyard, he keenly sensed something unusual.
His gaze was sharp as a knife; he instantly caught a flicker in the shadows. It was a pair of eyes, eyes that gleamed red in the darkness. He Yu's heart sank; he realized that everything he had done might be under Mo's surveillance.
"Lord Mo, are you planning to declare war on my Crane Clan?" His voice was deep and threatening.
Mo's figure slowly emerged from the shadows, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Originally, I only brought you back to give you a little punishment. I never expected you would dare to try and ruin my clan's important affairs."
A serious expression gathered between He Yu's brows. What terrible thing had he done to damage the Ink Serpent Clan? The question was answered the moment he looked towards Chu Xinyao's room.
Her stunning beauty was unlike any other female he had ever seen, her skin so delicate it seemed as if she had never lived in this beastly world.
“Lord Mo, my concern for Xinyao is absolutely not out of hostility towards the Ink Serpent Clan,” He Yu said, a flicker of anxiety crossing his mind. He had to clarify this misunderstanding, and at the same time, protect Chu Xinyao from being implicated. “I have no intention of disrupting any major events of the Ink Serpent Clan; I only hope that Xinyao will be cautious about the matter of finding a partner…”
Mo's face instantly darkened. He Yu's affectionate way of addressing Chu Xinyao and his interference in their marriage clearly touched a nerve with Mo.
"Heyu, you've overstepped your bounds." Mo's eyes were cold, and his tone was dangerous. "It's none of your business to interfere in what happens between Xinyao and me."
