Sisters in the Deep Forest Valley: Many Fun Things

Chapter 8 The Lin Family's Past

I gently pinched off the pumpkin leaves with the tip of my fingernail, afraid that the insects would fall to the ground.

Carefully place the pumpkin leaves into the space and observe the insects' movements closely.

Three minutes passed, and the insect didn't move an inch. She took out a pumpkin leaf, and the insect began to eat again.

It's a static space!

Excitedly, she ran back to her bedroom and said to her younger sister, who was lying on the bed waiting for her:

"Lanshan, that's great! We have two static spaces. We only need them for everyday storage, and we don't plan on running around or doing anything major. This is more than enough for us."

"This space... it feels like a dream. It's as if it's grown inside my head; I can see it just by thinking about it. It's incredible!"

As a student who had just finished the college entrance examination, Lin Chunyi originally thought that time travel was just a joke she made on a whim while reading farming novels.

Unexpectedly, it was Lin Lanshan, the younger sister who had a "feeling of intuition," who brought up the word "time travel" again.

Well, she really got it! The two of them are now transported to the deep mountains and forests of ancient times to farm!

Thankfully, fate intervened; the heavens spared these two unlucky souls. It was a time-traveling cheat code often seen in novels—a frozen space! This was incredibly awesome!

The two sisters said: "Thank God! Farming is a bit difficult, but we will grow our vegetables well!" (This long paragraph was originally part of the introduction, so it looks a bit strange???)

……

They began to organize the information here:

The two sisters, Lin Chunyi and Lin Lanshan, have lived and grown up in the deep valley of Youxian Mountain since birth. They are familiar with the entire mountain, except for the summit.

At the foot of Youxian Mountain lies Youxian Village. Only the village chief's family and the Lin family occasionally keep in touch. The farthest they have ever been is to go to town with Mr. and Mrs. Lin to sell their game.

The story of the Lin family, hunters deep in the mountains, is not complicated. The Lin family ancestors were refugees in a famine relief team. They used to work as escorts and had some martial arts skills.

After settling down in Youxian Village and marrying an orphan girl from the village, he found the escort business difficult and switched to being a hunter.

As for the reason for living in the mountains:

Firstly, skilled hunters often hunt and process prey, which means they are always covered in blood, making the villagers uncomfortable over time.

Secondly, compared to the villagers who had to rely on the whims of nature to make a living, hunters seemed to earn money far too easily.

If I carry my prey to and from town too often, I'm afraid I'll attract envy and become someone people covet.

So they decided to move into the mountains, occasionally greeting the villagers, and they had always gotten along well.

After Lin's parents passed away one after another, only Lin's parents and their two children remained on the entire mountain.

Three years ago, Lin Chunyi was twelve years old and Lin Lanshan was nine.

Lin's mother went up the mountain to pick a valuable Chinese herbal medicine, but accidentally scratched her arm on a poisonous vine.

Lin's father immediately took his wife home to treat her wounds, gave her an antidote, and then carried her down the mountain for further treatment.

Unfortunately, the poison took effect too quickly; less than half an hour after they descended the mountain, his wife stopped breathing.

From then on, Lin's father's life consisted of nothing but grief and longing for his wife. He would often go out for four or five days at a time, only to bring back game and work hard to support his two children.

Until one night about six months ago, Lin's father suddenly called his two children to his side and told them where all the money in the house was kept.

For the next three days, Lin's father went up and down the mountain every day from early morning to late at night, bringing back a lot of food and supplies.

Three days later, while teaching his two children martial arts moves at home, Lin's father suddenly vomited blood and fell into a coma.

The two sisters were so frightened that they were completely disoriented. They slowly moved their father to the bed and burst into tears.

Xiao Chunyi wiped away her tears, told her younger sister to stay with their father, and went down the mountain alone with the silver.

They went to the best clinic in town, Jishetang, and spent five taels of silver to hire a doctor who was willing to go deep into the mountains.

The doctor shook his head and told him to prepare for his funeral, taking only an ounce of the medicine before descending the mountain.

The next day, the valley was filled with the melodious chirping of birds, and sunlight streamed through the window into Lin's father's bedroom.

He slowly woke up, as if he had expected it, and touched the heads of the two children, gently comforting them.

He instructed the two sisters not to neglect their daily training, as the hunters' survival skills must not be lost in these deep mountains.

From now on, the two of them must accompany and care for each other, never drift apart, live well, and persevere.

He gave his final words, "Never again shall you climb to the mountaintop in this lifetime," before following in the footsteps of Lin's mother.

……

Alas, the original owners of the sisters' original bodies had lost both their parents, which was a source of regret for Lin Chunyi and Lin Lanshan.

Well, I have to say... I feel a little relieved.

For the next few days, Lin Chunyi's daily task was to struggle with the earthen stove, decocting medicine and cooking while covered in soot.

Lin Lanshan's daily routine consists of lying down and waiting for her medicine and meals.

The doctor prescribed medicine, along with the Yunnan Baiyao spray they brought.

In less than two weeks, Lin Lanshan was able to get out of bed. She took a few tentative steps and moved her legs around.

"Family members, who understands this? No one breaks a bone and becomes a patient right after transmigrating. I can finally get out of bed and walk normally. My bones are about to loosen."

Upon hearing the sound, Lin Chunyi walked over with the medicine, a look of disgust appearing on her clean face, and said:

"You should be grateful. You've been lying in bed for seven days, and I've been taking care of you for seven days! Heaven knows what I went through to conquer this place with its iron pots and earthen stoves. Hurry up and drink your medicine."

Thinking about how I've been eating wood ash and smearing charcoal powder on my face these past few days, and my sister keeps teasing me about whether I've been digging coal, I feel so sad and depressed...

Lin Lanshan's injuries have healed, and now it's time to sort through the things left behind by her parents.

The money was earned by Lin's father through hard hunting; there were three fifty-tael silver ingots and five ten-tael silver ingots.

There was also a pile of broken silver and six hundred and twenty-three copper coins.

The two went to the side room, opened the cover in a secluded spot, and went down the ladder.

The cellar is three meters deep and less than twenty square meters.

Lin Chunyi and Lin Lanshan's mouths were agape in disbelief. The cellar was neatly filled with grains, as well as some preserved meats, cloth, and farm tools.

The most striking features are the two bows and several arrows!

Seeing so many things, Lin Chunyi felt a pang of sadness. A parent's love is always so profound, as if it were never enough.

I wonder if my parents still remember them?

"Lanshan, let's go and kowtow to Mr. and Mrs. Lin tomorrow. They worked so hard to provide for their children, and we're like bandits who have seized their territory... Can we really use these things?"

Lin Lanshan, however, thought differently and comforted her sister, saying:

"Sister, I don't know why we got here. It's not something we wanted or could control."

But since they've come, they are also our fathers and mothers! We should burn incense and pay our respects during festivals and talk to them. And what they left behind—should we just let them rot and gather dust if we don't use them?

Protecting this house, protecting this home where they live, diligently practicing the martial arts my father taught us, and striving to survive here—that is the greatest respect we can show them!

So they divided the money into two portions and put them in their respective spaces for the time being.
