Shu Yun joined in the fun, picking up the most eye-catching comic book on the bookshelf, "The Sounding Arrow." The cover was in the style of an oil painting, with bright and vivid colors that caught the eye. In a lush birch forest, a boy wearing a green military uniform and a bright red scarf was drawing his bow and aiming at the distance. The boy's eyes were firm and resolute, full of the vigorous spirit of the times.

Shu Yun continued flipping through the pages. Unlike the vibrant cover, the inner pages were in a black and white sketch style, with illustrations taking up most of the space on each small page, accompanied only by a few brief sentences explaining the plot.

After reading a few pages, Shu Yun felt that although the story was short, the plot was full of twists and turns, and the illustrations made it even more captivating. No wonder so many children were gathered here reading. She thought that this might be a business opportunity. In the 70s, comic books were still in a state of disrepair, and the demand for them among teenagers was huge. Furthermore, the great man's question, "Is there anyone who can compile comic books?" greatly promoted the development of comic books. At least she could give it a try, which happened to be in line with her major. She just needed to think carefully about what kind of story to write.

Thinking this, Shu Yun picked out a few comic books from the bookshelf and paid for them, earning envious glances from many children. "When I grow up and have money, I want to come and buy comic books every day." Children's ambitions are always so simple.

After Shu Yun finished shopping, she checked the time and walked back to the agreed place. When she got back into the carriage, Ye Shufen was already sitting down, holding a bottle of newly bought face cream with a rather smug expression. However, when she saw Tian Xiufen and Shu Yun get on, her smile disappeared and she stopped talking.

The car bumped its way back to the military camp. Shu Yun and Tian Xiufen walked back together. When they passed the tenement building, they heard a commotion outside. The two looked at each other and walked in the direction of the sound.

"Help! Is there anyone who can help me? My baby is dying, waaaaaah!"

"I didn't mean to, I really didn't mean to, it wasn't my fault."

Feng Jie rushed out of the tenement building as if she were insane. She was wearing a dress, one of her shoes was missing, her hair was disheveled, and half of her lipstick was smudged. People who did not know what had happened would think that something had happened to her. Only after listening to her incoherent words did they realize that something had happened to her child at home!

Tian Xiufen, being impatient, grabbed Feng Jie, who was about to run out, and said, "What happened? Explain yourself."

Feng Jie acted as if she hadn't heard. When she saw the crowd gathering around, she shrank back and shook her head, repeating only, "It's not my fault, really, I didn't mean to, it has nothing to do with me."

Shu Yun frowned and stepped forward to interrupt, "You mean Xiao Bao? Where is he now? Let's go check on him."

Feng Jie remained unresponsive, as if possessed, repeating the same things she had said before. Tian Xiufen, unable to bear it any longer, slapped Feng Jie across the face, saying, "Where are you?"

The loud voice finally brought Feng Jie back to her senses. "Yes, yes." Before she could finish speaking, she sounded like she was about to cry. Tian Xiufen really couldn't stand her nagging. If she didn't have to ask her something, she would have kicked her away.

Fortunately, Feng Jie didn't need to answer. Someone in the crowd shouted, "Upstairs, at the Feng family's house. I think the child looks like he's going to die." The voice was trembling.

The crowd erupted in commotion and immediately became somewhat chaotic. Shu Yun spoke up, "Everyone, don't panic. Which of you ladies lives nearby and has a bicycle? Please ride your bicycles to the sentry at the gate and ask him to fetch a doctor."

"Anyone else with the strength, please keep an eye on this woman and don't let her escape. Find out what happened to her and the child at home, no matter what method you use."

As soon as Shu Yun finished speaking, her sisters-in-law responded immediately and took action. One sister-in-law rode her bicycle to the door, while another escorted Feng Jie upstairs.

"Don't panic, let's go check on the child's condition." Shu Yun walked ahead, led by the military wife, and arrived at the Feng family's house.

At this moment, the Feng family's gate was wide open, but the child's voice could not be heard. Shu Yun's face darkened as she saw the little child lying on the ground, his face and lips turning an unnatural bluish-purple.

The child's pupils had begun to dilate, a sight that horrified Shu Yun. Just then, the military wife, through a combination of slapping and beating, finally learned what had happened from Feng Jie.

It turned out that Xiao Bao was hungry and kept crying. Feng Jie was impatient and saw that there was still half a piece of rice cake in the kitchen, so she fed it to the child directly. The rice cake was very sticky, and Xiao Bao's teeth had not yet grown in, so he accidentally choked.

Xiao Bao started crying again, but Feng Jie ignored him, thinking he was just throwing a tantrum. She hid in her room to get ready. When she came out, Xiao Bao was too exhausted to even cry anymore. She was terrified and tried to pat his back, but to no avail. She dropped the child and ran out.

"The child choked." A military wife picked up the child and patted his back, but it didn't help. "What should we do? By the time the doctor comes, I think the child is beyond saving."

Feng Jie huddled in the crowd, trembling violently upon hearing this, muttering, "I didn't do it on purpose, it was his own carelessness, it has nothing to do with me."

The military wife next to her was so annoyed with her that she slapped her hard across the face, saying, "Stop bothering me."

Shu Yun immediately thought of the Heimlich method and stepped forward, saying, "Let me give it a try."

The crowd parted to make way, and Shu Yun held the child against her back, wrapped her arms around the child's belly, pulled the child's stomach open, made a fist two fingers above the navel, and then used her other hand to push inward and upward towards the fist.

Once, twice, the child still didn't react. Even though Shu Yun wasn't using much force, her back was soaked with sweat.

"W-Will this work? Should we wait for the doctor to come?"

To be honest, you can't just blindly save someone. If you manage to save them, everyone's happy, but if something goes wrong, the person who saved them will end up getting into trouble.

Shu Yun didn't stop; she continued to pat the baby's belly rhythmically.

All attention was focused on Shu Yun. Caught off guard, Feng Jie broke free from her restraints. As if suddenly snapping back to reality, she rushed forward, trying to tear Shu Yun apart. "What are you doing? You're not a doctor! You'll hurt the child if you keep hitting him like that! I won't let you touch him!"

Now you're concerned about the child? Where were you before?

Shu Yun was unaffected and continued at her own pace. Tian Xiufen quickly stopped her and slapped her hard across the face, saying, "Who are you putting on an act for now? You're just putting on a show."

Feng Jie's cheeks were swollen from the beating, and her mouth was cut and bleeding.

Everyone was watching Shu Yun, as if waiting for a miracle. Finally, with a "poof," a piece of rice cake was spat out of the child's mouth, and the child burst into tears. The tension in everyone's hearts eased.
