Chapter 94 Palace Exploration and Mysteries
The woman in black robes, the man in white, and Ling'er stood before the palace, which emitted an eerie light, momentarily stunned. The light flickered, seemingly luring them in, yet also subtly warning them to stay away. The surrounding mist remained thick, wisps clinging to them, cold and damp, making them feel as if they were in a giant, icy embrace, unable to escape.
Ling'er tugged at the sleeve of the woman in black robes and said timidly, "Sister, this place looks so scary. Do we really have to go in?" The woman in black robes looked at Ling'er's frightened appearance and was also full of hesitation. But when she thought that perhaps only by entering this palace could she find a way to leave this place and reunite with Huanmo, she gritted her teeth and said softly, "Ling'er, I'm afraid we have no other choice. In order to see Brother Huanmo as soon as possible, we have to go in and take a look."
The man in white nodded slightly, his gaze resolute yet cautious, and led the way towards the palace gate. The gate was over two people tall, carved with all sorts of strange patterns—fierce beasts with bared fangs and claws, and bizarre runes emitting a faint glow, as if possessing a mysterious power. The man in white reached out and gently pushed the gate. With a dull creak, the gate slowly opened, releasing a pungent, decaying aura mixed with a chill that sent shivers down everyone's spine.
Entering the palace, they found it extremely spacious. The high dome was inlaid with gemstones that emitted a faint, eerie glow; the light, though not bright, was enough to allow them to see their surroundings. The floor was paved with massive bluestone slabs, each bearing the mottled marks of time, as if telling ancient stories. Tall stone pillars stood on either side of the palace, their surfaces also carved with intricate patterns. Under the eerie light, these patterns seemed to flow slowly, exuding an inexplicable sense of mystery.
On Huanmo's side, the battle with the ferocious beast was still raging. He nimbly weaved through the gaps in the beast's attacks, his sword flashing, each strike infused with all his spiritual power. But the beast's hide was thick and tough; Huanmo's attacks only left shallow scratches, unable to inflict any real damage. Huanmo grew increasingly anxious, large beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. He thought, "If this continues, I'll be worn down to death by this beast. I can't die here! Ling'er and the others are waiting for me!"
Just as Huanmo was starting to feel overwhelmed, he suddenly noticed a sharp stone on the ground not far away. The tip of the stone gleamed with an unusual luster, as if it possessed extraordinary quality. Huanmo had an idea. He deliberately feigned an opening, luring the ferocious beast to pounce on him. Just as the beast was in mid-air, Huanmo rolled to the side, rushed towards the stone, grabbed it, and then, using the momentum of the roll, turned and stabbed it fiercely into the beast's eye. The beast couldn't dodge in time, and one of its eyes was pierced by Huanmo. It immediately let out a painful roar, wildly swinging its claws, stirring up dust all around it.
Huanmo took the opportunity to distance himself, panting heavily. Looking at the even more ferocious beast after being injured, he knew that this battle was far from over.
Inside the palace, the woman in black robes and her entourage slowly walked down a long corridor. Ancient scrolls hung on the walls, their paint seemingly faded and the images somewhat blurry, but one could vaguely discern scenes depicting people in strange attire performing mysterious rituals. Ling'er looked at the scrolls curiously, muttering to herself, "What are these people doing? It looks so strange."
The man in white carefully observed his surroundings as he walked. He felt that the palace was strange in every way, and that the seemingly ordinary decorations and ornaments might hide some crucial clues. Suddenly, a fork appeared ahead. The left passage faintly carried the sound of flowing water, while the right passage was filled with a faint floral fragrance, completely different from the withered flower sea outside, exuding a unique freshness.
"Which way do we go?" the woman in black asked the man in white, her eyes full of inquiry. The man in white pondered for a moment and said, "The sound of flowing water is strange, and there might be a trap over the flower fragrance. Let's go to the left and take a look first."
So, the group headed towards the left passage. The further they went, the clearer the sound of flowing water became, accompanied by wisps of steam that made the surrounding air humid. Soon, they arrived at a huge pool. Clear water flowed gently within, its surface shimmering with tiny lights, as if countless treasures were hidden beneath. Ling'er excitedly ran to the pool, wanting to get a closer look, but the woman in black robes grabbed her arm: "Ling'er, be careful, this place isn't as simple as it seems."
Just then, the water in the pool suddenly began to churn violently, and a huge water monster emerged from the bottom of the pool. It was completely transparent, except for a pair of blood-red eyes that were particularly striking. The water monster opened its mouth wide, let out a sharp cry, and pounced towards the group.
The woman in black robes quickly drew her sword to fight back, while the man in white once again played his jade flute, attempting to use the power of music to defend against the water monster's attack. However, the water monster was extremely agile in the water, sometimes diving to the bottom and sometimes leaping out from unexpected places, leaving everyone somewhat overwhelmed.
On Huanmo's side, after a fierce battle, he finally found an opening in the beast's defenses. Taking advantage of the beast's missed attack and exposed belly, Huanmo used all his strength to leap high into the air and plunge his sword deep into the beast's abdomen. The beast let out a final, mournful cry and collapsed to the ground with a thud, raising a cloud of dust. Exhausted, Huanmo slumped to the ground. After a short rest, he continued along the valley. He felt he was getting closer and closer to Ling'er and the others, and a glimmer of hope ignited in his heart.
Meanwhile, by the palace's pool, the battle between the woman in black robes and the water monster remained fierce. Just as they were beginning to falter, a hidden door suddenly appeared in the wall beside the pool. The door slowly opened, emanating a mysterious energy that seemed to beckon them. Was it a trap, or a glimmer of hope for escape? Could they break free from the water monster's clutches and enter the hidden door to find out? Everything was shrouded in uncertainty, danger and opportunity intertwined, awaiting their discovery…
