Chapter 113 Underground Crisis and the Mysterious Key
The violent tremors continued, the entire space seeming as if it could collapse at any moment. The woman in black robes, the man in white, and Ling'er huddled together, their eyes warily fixed on the sinking stone platform and the direction from which the eerie aura emanating from the ground was coming from. The cracks in the surrounding walls widened, dust falling in cascading drops, swirling in the dazzling yet unsettling light, making them blink incessantly. Yet, none dared to relax their vigilance for the slightest, as if a deadly danger would strike at any moment.
The woman in black robes was filled with worry. She gritted her teeth, her hand unconsciously tightening its grip on the hilt of her sword. She thought to herself, "I've finally come this far, am I going to fail again? What exactly is hidden underground? Why does it feel so dangerous? But no matter what, I absolutely cannot back down now." A resolute look appeared in her eyes, and she was prepared to face all the unknowns.
The man in white wore a solemn expression. A jade flute lay horizontally before him, spiritual energy continuously flowing into it. The faint light emanating from the flute flickered uncertainly in the dusty air. His brow furrowed, he pondered to himself, "This puzzle was finally solved, yet it triggered such a turn of events. It seems the secret behind this is far more complex than I imagined. I can only hope we can handle what has appeared this time, otherwise we'll truly be in dire straits." As he thought this, he carefully observed every change in his surroundings, trying to find a way to cope.
Ling'er clutched tightly at the black-robed woman's hem, her face deathly pale with fear, her large eyes filled with terror. She tried to calm herself, hoping the ancient scroll might still be of use. Her small hands trembled slightly as she pulled the scroll from her bosom, quickly flipping through it, hoping to find even the slightest record of the current situation, even just a hint. She silently prayed for a miracle.
As the stone platform continued to sink, the eerie aura grew stronger. Suddenly, a deep, guttural roar echoed from the ground, seemingly emanating from the deepest abyss, filled with boundless rage and brutality, sending a chill down one's spine. Immediately afterward, a gigantic claw emerged from where the platform had sunk. The claw was covered in hard, black scales, and its sharp nails, each as long as half a person, gleamed like gleaming blades, sending shivers down one's spine at the mere sight of it.
The woman in black robes gasped and shouted, "Everyone be careful! This thing looks tough!" With that, she unleashed several sword strikes at the claw. The sword energy whistled through the air, slashing fiercely at the claw, but only sending up a few sparks; it didn't cause any real damage. After being attacked, the claw swung violently, unleashing a powerful force. The woman in black robes quickly dodged, but the residual force still made her arm numb.
Seeing this, the man in white played his jade flute, and a stirring melody rang out, transforming into blades of spiritual energy that flew towards the claw. The spiritual energy blades struck their target one after another, but the claw only paused slightly before swinging even more wildly, tearing the surrounding ground and walls to shreds, sending shards of stone flying everywhere, making the entire space increasingly chaotic.
Ling'er was extremely anxious. Her eyes darted back and forth between the scroll and the claw. Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she exclaimed, "The scroll says that the weak point of this scaly monster might be its abdomen or eyes. We have to find a way to attack its weak point!" Hearing this, the woman in black robes and the man in white felt a glimmer of hope, but the claw was moving so fast that it was impossible to get close enough to find its weak point.
Just as they were locked in a fierce battle, the stone platform finally sank completely, revealing a deep cave below. A faint light flickered within the cave, and in that light, three keys radiating an eerie glow came into view—the very keys to the divine artifact they had been searching for! But the monster guarded the cave entrance, as if protecting the keys, preventing them from ever getting close.
The woman in black was both anxious and delighted. She was anxious because the monster was blocking her way, but delighted because she had finally spotted the key. She shouted, "We have to find a way to distract the monster and get the key!" The man in white nodded, thought for a moment, and said, "I'll try to distract it with music. You guys try to find a chance to get around to the side and see if you can rush into the cave."
So, the man in white played his jade flute again, producing a more melodious tune with a strange rhythm. The music seemed to possess a magical power; the monster was indeed drawn to it and slowly moved towards the man in white. Seeing this, the woman in black and Ling'er seized the opportunity to carefully circle around to the side of the cave. Their steps were very light, afraid of making the slightest sound to disturb the monster; their hearts pounded like drums, their tension at its peak.
Just as they were about to reach the cave entrance, the monster seemed to sense something, abruptly turning its head, its gaping maw opening wide, and spewing a cloud of black smoke at them. The woman in black robes quickly pulled Ling'er back, the smoke carrying a pungent odor that made them cough incessantly and their eyes water.
"What are we going to do now?" the woman in black said anxiously. The man in white also stopped playing, watching them nervously. For a moment, the three were locked in a stalemate. The keys to the three divine artifacts were so close, yet seemed impossibly far away, while the monster lurked menacingly, ready to launch another fierce attack at any moment. How could they break through this predicament and successfully obtain the keys? Did this mysterious cave harbor other unknown dangers? Everything remained uncertain. They could only continue searching for a glimmer of hope in this perilous environment…
