A Fantasy Love Story Across the Warring States Period

Chapter 110 The Crisis and Unexpected Discovery Behind the Howling

The howling sound, like a surging tide, swept wave after wave towards the woman in black robes, the man in white, and Ling'er, constantly assaulting their already taut nerves in the narrow, dimly lit passage. The woman in black robes gritted her teeth, gripping her sword even tighter; the patterns on the hilt hurt her palms slightly, but she paid no heed to that, her mind filled with vigilance for what was about to appear. She thought to herself, danger had come one after another on this journey. She had thought that dealing with the female ghost would make things easier, but this eerie place offered no respite. She could only hope that this time she could escape danger again and find the key to the divine artifact as soon as possible.

The man in white wore a solemn expression, his jade flute held horizontally before him, spiritual energy continuously flowing into it. The flute faintly emitted a soft glow, seemingly their only solace in the darkness. He listened intently to the source of the howling sound, trying to discern what kind of monster was approaching, but the howling was chaotic and unpredictable. He couldn't help but worry; if it was truly a powerful creature, the three of them alone would likely face considerable difficulties. Ling'er followed closely behind the woman in black, her small hands unconsciously covering her ears, her large eyes filled with terror. She desperately hoped this was just a nightmare, that she would wake up and return to peace, but the ever-closer howling ruthlessly shattered her illusions. She could only silently pray for a miracle.

As the howling grew closer, the surrounding environment became increasingly harsh. The floor of the passage began to shake violently, and dust fell from above, blinding them. The faint light that had been flickering on the walls began to dim, as if it too feared the unknown thing about to appear. Water droplets fell from the walls faster, gathering into small puddles. With each step they took, icy water splashed up, sending a chill straight up from their feet to their hearts.

Suddenly, a huge black shadow burst out from the depths of the passage, nearly knocking them to the ground with its powerful impact. Once they regained their footing, they saw a colossal beast, its body as large as a mountain. Its body was covered in hard scales that gleamed coldly in the dim light. Its large, bell-like eyes shone with a bloodthirsty light, and its gaping maw revealed sharp, interlocking fangs that emitted a nauseating stench.

The woman in black robes felt a chill run down her spine and shouted, "Everyone be careful! This thing is tough!" With that, she charged towards the giant beast, her sword flashing as she slashed at its legs, attempting to immobilize it. But the blade struck the scales, only sending sparks flying; it didn't harm the beast at all. Enraged, the beast let out a deafening roar, its thick tail lashing out. The woman in black robes leaped backward to dodge, but the force of the blow still made her chest feel tight.

Seeing this, the man in white played his jade flute, and a stirring melody transformed into countless blades of spiritual energy that flew towards the giant beast. The blades struck the beast's body, but only caused it to slightly shake its head; the attacks seemed to be nothing more than a tickle. Ling'er watched anxiously, knowing she couldn't rely solely on the woman in black and the man in white; she had to find a way to help herself. She reopened the ancient scroll, frantically searching for information on how to subdue such beasts. Beads of sweat rolled down her forehead, blurring her vision, but she didn't bother wiping them away; her only thought was to find a solution as soon as possible, or they would all perish in the beast's jaws.

Just as they were locked in a fierce battle, Ling'er suddenly noticed a mention of the giant beast's weakness in the scroll. Her eyes lit up, and she shouted, "Its eyes are its weakness! Attack its eyes!" Hearing this, the woman in black and the man in white felt a glimmer of hope. The woman in black seized the opportunity, and as the beast lunged again, she nimbly dodged to its side, leaping high into the air and thrusting her sword towards the beast's eye. The man in white wasn't idle either; he twirled his jade flute, gathering spiritual energy into a sharp arrow of light, which he shot towards the beast's other eye.

The behemoth seemed to sense the danger and tried to dodge, but it was too late. The black-robed woman's sword successfully pierced one of its eyes, and the behemoth let out a painful scream as blood gushed out. The white-robed man's arrow of light also struck its target, and the behemoth went completely berserk, wildly swinging its limbs and tail, stirring up dust and sending rocks flying throughout the passage.

Taking advantage of the situation, the three women, including the woman in black robes, retreated to avoid the giant beast's frenzied attacks. Just then, in its struggle, the giant beast smashed through one of the passage's walls, which collapsed with a roar, revealing a hidden space behind it. From that space, a strange aura faintly emanated, as if something important was drawing them in.

"There seems to be something behind there. Could it be the key to the divine artifact?" Ling'er asked in surprise. The woman in black robes looked at the hidden space, hesitating for a moment. The giant beast was still rampaging, and going over rashly would be extremely dangerous. However, the faint aura she sensed made her unwilling to miss the opportunity. The man in white also looked at that spot, and after thinking for a moment, said, "Let's go over carefully and take a look. Maybe it really is what we're looking for."

So, they carefully bypassed the still-raging beast and headed towards the hidden space. As soon as they stepped inside, a soft light enveloped them. Ancient artifacts were displayed, some radiating a mysterious glow, but the keys to the three divine artifacts were nowhere to be seen. Just as they were wondering what was going on, the light in the space suddenly became blinding, and a phantom figure slowly emerged. Its face was indistinct, but a deep voice rang out: "If you want the keys, first solve the puzzle here; otherwise, you will never leave..."

The sudden sound sent their hearts sinking. What was this mystery? Could they solve it? In this hidden space filled with unknowns, their fate seemed shrouded in another layer of mist, leaving them no choice but to grit their teeth and explore the secrets behind the mystery…
