Chapter 105 Ling'er's Guidance and Mysterious Direction
The woman in black robes and the man in white followed Ling'er, filled with doubt. Looking at her somewhat unfamiliar figure, their hearts felt heavy, as if weighed down by a large stone. The forest remained eerie and silent. The twisted tree trunks seemed like silent beasts, quietly watching their every move. The eerie vines hanging from the branches swayed gently in the breeze, scattering strange, dappled light that fell to the ground, adding to the mysterious atmosphere.
The woman in black robes hurried a few steps closer to Ling'er and whispered, "Ling'er, what's wrong? Don't scare your sister." Her voice was filled with anxiety and worry, and her gaze remained fixed on Ling'er's profile, trying to discern something from her expression. However, Ling'er remained expressionless, walking straight ahead without looking to the side, seemingly ignoring her calls.
The man in white also frowned, vigilantly observing his surroundings while silently pondering Ling'er's changes. He thought that the five-colored bead entering Ling'er's body must have triggered some extraordinary event, but what kind of event could have caused Ling'er to become like this? What secret did the bead hold, and where was Ling'er leading them? Many questions lingered in his mind, but he couldn't find the answers immediately, so he could only follow along for now.
As they walked, the surrounding fog gradually thickened. At first, it was just a thin veil of mist, but later it became as thick as milk, completely obscuring their vision. They could only see blurry outlines when they stretched out their hands. The woman in the black robe grew increasingly uneasy. She reached out and tightly grasped Ling'er's hem, afraid of losing her in the thick fog.
"Ling'er, the fog is too thick. Are we going to get lost? Should we stop for a while?" the woman in black robes said tentatively. But Ling'er still didn't respond, nor did she stop walking. She just slowed down her pace, as if she was searching for some definite direction in the thick fog.
The man in white took out the luminous pearl, infused it with spiritual energy, and it emitted a soft light, attempting to penetrate the thick fog. However, the light could only illuminate a small area around them; anything further away remained shrouded in mist. He shook his head helplessly, silently praying that they wouldn't encounter any more danger. After all, their current situation was far from optimistic; their spiritual energy hadn't recovered, and Ling'er was behaving strangely. If something were to happen to them, they would be in a difficult situation to handle.
After struggling through the thick fog for a long time, Ling'er suddenly stopped. The woman in black robes and the man in white quickly stopped as well, following Ling'er's gaze. They saw an ancient building faintly appearing ahead, its outline indistinct in the fog, exuding an aura of vicissitude and mystery. The building resembled a temple, its eaves and brackets in a simple and ancient style, though time had left mottled marks on it. Moss and unknown vines climbed the walls, as if telling a long-ago story.
"Could this be the place Ling'er is bringing us to?" the man in white murmured, his heart filled with curiosity and doubt. The woman in black looked at Ling'er and noticed a strange light flashing in her eyes, as if she had found her target. She then lifted her foot and walked towards the building.
They followed Ling'er to the temple. The temple gate was tightly closed, and the gate was carved with complex and mysterious patterns. Among the patterns were auspicious beasts, immortal herbs, and some figures dressed in ancient costumes, as if they were performing some kind of sacrificial ceremony. However, due to the erosion of wind and rain, some parts of the patterns had become blurred.
Ling'er reached out and gently touched the door. In an instant, the patterns on the door seemed to be awakened, flickering with a faint light. Then, the door slowly opened, making a dull "creak" sound, as if opening a door to an unknown world. An ancient aura rushed out, mixed with a faint sandalwood fragrance, which made people feel awe.
Stepping into the temple, the light was dim, with only a few rays filtering through the cracks in the roof, barely enough to make out the general outline of the surroundings. At the very center of the temple stood a colossal statue, its face solemn and dignified, its eyes seemingly surveying the world, making one hesitant to meet its gaze. Before the statue was an ancient stone platform, upon which rested a scroll that emitted a faint glow. The pages of the scroll were yellowed, yet it possessed an irresistible allure.
Ling'er walked straight towards the stone platform. The woman in black robes and the man in white exchanged a glance and followed her. When they reached the stone platform, Ling'er reached out to pick up the scroll. The moment her hand touched the scroll, a beam of light shot out from it, enveloping them.
The woman in black felt a wave of dizziness, and a flood of unfamiliar images rushed into her mind: ancient battlefields, mysterious sacrificial scenes, and figures with indistinct faces performing strange spells. The images flashed by so quickly that she couldn't keep up. The man in white felt the same way. He closed his eyes tightly, trying to steady his mind, but the images kept coming, as if trying to drag them into a distant history.
After an unknown amount of time, the light gradually faded, and the woman in black robes and the man in white finally came to their senses. They looked at Ling'er and found her holding a book, her eyes focused on the contents, as if she had understood some important secret.
"Ling'er, what did you see in the scroll?" the woman in black robes couldn't help but ask, but Ling'er still didn't answer her. She just kept looking at the scroll. After a while, she slowly said, "We are going to find the lost artifact. It can solve all the mysteries and change everything."
The woman in black robes and the man in white were shocked. A lost artifact? What exactly was that, and where was it hidden? And could everything really develop as Ling'er said? But looking at Ling'er's confident expression, they didn't know how to refute her.
Just then, a commotion suddenly came from outside the temple, as if something was rushing towards them. The noise grew louder and louder, carrying a sense of danger.
"There seems to be trouble outside, we need to think of something quickly!" the man in white said anxiously. The woman in black also tensed up. They looked towards the temple gate, but had no idea what awaited them outside.
What was making that sudden sound? And where can they find the lost artifact Ling'er spoke of? Can they escape danger once again and continue their investigation to uncover the truth behind it all? Everything remains unknown; danger and the unknown once more envelop them, waiting for them to face and solve the puzzles…
