A magical journey of a sharp-tongued woman and a goofy man
Chapter 42 Soaring Ambitions
The biting mountain wind, whipping up raindrops, stung my face like countless tiny ice needles.
Ye Shuli wiped the rain off her face and muttered a curse under her breath: "This damn weather, it changes in an instant, faster than turning the pages of a book!"
Jiang Ye was also shivering from the cold, but he still couldn't resist teasing: "Li'er, are you questioning God's competence? Be careful, or it might give you a bolt from the blue!"
Ye Shuli glared at him irritably: "Shut up! Save your energy for the journey!"
The two trudged along the muddy mountain path, their steps uneven, the surroundings eerily quiet except for the howling wind and the sound of rain.
The faint sense of being watched that they had felt earlier had vanished, but this only made them more vigilant.
"Strange..." Jiang Ye frowned, "Why did that feeling suddenly disappear?"
Ye Shuli narrowed her eyes, looked around, and said in a deep voice, "Perhaps we have entered their hunting range..."
As soon as he finished speaking, something strange happened!
"Whoosh-"
A dark figure darted out from the dense forest, heading straight for Jiang Ye!
"Watch out!" Ye Shuli reacted quickly, shoving Jiang Ye aside. At the same time, she drew her longsword, its cold light flashing, and accurately pierced the dark figure.
"Ow—"
A piercing scream rang out, and the dark figure crashed heavily to the ground, twitched a few times, and then fell silent.
Ye Shuli went forward to take a look and found that it was a monster that looked like a leopard. It was pitch black and emitted a faint fishy smell.
"Holy crap, what the hell is this thing?" Jiang Ye patted his chest, still shaken. "It looks really ugly!"
Ye Shuli ignored his complaints, her brows furrowed, her gaze warily sweeping over the surrounding dense forest.
"This is just the beginning..." she whispered, "The real danger is yet to come..."
Jiang Ye also stopped joking and nodded with a serious expression.
The rain was still falling, the wind was still blowing, and the mountains and forests were deathly silent, the atmosphere so oppressive that it was hard to breathe.
Suddenly, Ye Shuli's gaze sharpened as she looked in a certain direction and said in a deep voice, "There..."
She didn't continue speaking, but instead pulled a map and a strange metal device from her backpack...
Ye Shuli quickly unfolded the map, gestured on it with her fingers, and then picked up the metal instrument—a simple anemometer—to measure the wind direction.
"Tsk, this lousy place doesn't even have a proper cave..." she muttered, her gaze falling on an inconspicuous little mark on the map.
"I've got it!" She pointed to a location on the map and said to Jiang Ye, "Let's go over there!"
Jiang Ye looked completely bewildered: "Over there? There's nothing on the map, Li'er, are you sure you're not mistaken?"
"What do you know, you country bumpkin?" Ye Shuli rolled her eyes at him. "These are called contour lines! If you can't see them, it just means you didn't study geography well! Come with me, and I guarantee I'll take you to eat and drink the finest food, and we'll also get out of this damn storm!"
Although Jiang Ye didn't understand what "contour lines" were, he still had great faith in Ye Shuli's abilities.
Braving the wind and rain, the two trudged with difficulty to the location marked on the map.
Parting the dense vines, a hidden cave suddenly appeared before our eyes.
"Holy crap! That's amazing, Li'er!" Jiang Ye couldn't help but exclaim in admiration. "You managed to find this? Do you have X-ray vision or something?"
Ye Shuli proudly raised her chin: "Basic stuff, don't be silly."
The two entered the cave and were finally able to catch their breath.
Jiang Ye leaned against the cave wall and exclaimed, "Li'er, you are truly omnipotent!" Ye Shuli raised an eyebrow, just about to modestly say, "I know a little, I know a little," when suddenly, a deep roar came from the cave entrance, making the entire cave vibrate.
A massive black bear blocked the entrance to the cave, its eyes bloodshot, fangs bared, and emanating a suffocating aura of a mid-stage spiritualist.
Clearly, it regarded the two people who had trespassed into its territory as intruders.
Jiang Ye's expression changed, and he immediately drew his weapon and assumed a fighting stance.
"Wow! This guy is huge! Li'er, this guy is going to be tough!"
Ye Shuli remained calm, merely glancing indifferently at the black bear, and then...
He pulled a bag of potato chips out of his backpack.
"Crunch, crunch..." The crisp chewing sound echoed in the silent cave, sounding particularly abrupt.
Jiang Ye: "..." He stared at Ye Shuli in disbelief, as if he had witnessed something unbelievable.
"Li'er, what... what are you doing?"
Ye Shuli ate her potato chips slowly and deliberately, saying without looking up, "Of course... I'm watching the show."
Jiang Ye followed her gaze and then noticed that several figures had appeared behind the black bear at some point...
Ye Shuli picked up a stone, waved it in front of the black bear like she was teasing a cat, and then threw it far away.
The black bear was indeed drawn to the stone, roared, and turned to chase after it.
"Wow, Li'er, you're amazing!" Jiang Ye was dumbfounded; this move was absolutely incredible.
Ye Shuli winked playfully: "Hehe, you little brat, trying to mess with me."
Taking advantage of the moment the black bear left, the two quickly made their escape.
As Ye Shuli ran, she couldn't help but complain, "Is this bear an idiot? It chased after a rock. Its intelligence is questionable." Jiang Ye nodded in deep agreement, "No problem, sis, case closed."
The two ran for their lives and finally managed to shake off the black bear's pursuit.
After running around for a while, Ye Shuli took out a map and studied it for a long time. Suddenly, her eyes lit up: "Jiang Ye, look, there seems to be an entrance to a spirit crystal mine nearby!" Jiang Ye leaned over to take a look, and there was indeed an inconspicuous little mark on the map.
"Let's go!" The two walked excitedly in the direction of the marker.
Before long, they arrived at a secluded valley.
The entrance to the valley is hidden by dense vines and is easy to miss if you don't look carefully.
"This place is quite interesting." Ye Shuli observed the surrounding environment and discovered some simple restrictions.
"No problem, just a piece of cake." She smiled confidently, took out some strange little gadgets, and began to break the seal.
Jiang Ye watched from the side, completely bewildered: "Li'er, what are all these things? They're high-tech!" Ye Shuli replied without looking up: "Basic stuff, don't be ridiculous. This is the power of modern technology, understand?"
Before long, Ye Shuli easily broke the restriction.
"Done!" She clapped her hands, beaming with pride.
"Wow, Li'er!" Jiang Ye excitedly hugged Ye Shuli and spun her around. "We're rich now!" Ye Shuli was dizzy from being spun around. "Okay, okay, put me down. Don't be like a husky."
The two pushed aside the vines, and a dark hole appeared before them—the entrance to the spirit crystal mine.
A rich spiritual energy wafted over, refreshing the mind and spirit.
"Charge!" Jiang Ye couldn't wait to go in and find out what was going on.
Unable to contain her excitement, Ye Shuli followed Jiang Ye into the mine.
However, as soon as Jiang Ye stepped into the mine, he felt his feet sink into the ground...
"Holy crap!" Jiang Ye's exclamation echoed through the mine.
He lost his footing and plummeted downwards.
Ye Shuli reacted quickly, grabbing his arm and sliding down with him.
"Holy crap! What's going on?!" Jiang Ye flailing his arms and legs in mid-air, looking like a monkey whose tail had been stepped on.
"Shut up! Don't move!" Ye Shuli shouted sternly.
After finally regaining their balance, the two realized that they had fallen into a huge pit.
The bottom of the pit was pitch black and unfathomably deep, exuding an unsettling atmosphere.
"Li'er, this...this can't be the legendary death trap, can it?" Jiang Ye's voice trembled slightly.
Ye Shuli rolled her eyes at him, annoyed: "Have you been reading too many novels? Where do all these death traps come from? It's just a pit at most!" As she spoke, she took out a flashlight from her backpack, turned it on, and a bright beam of light illuminated the bottom of the pit.
"Wow, it's really deep..." Jiang Ye swallowed hard as he looked at the bottomless pit.
"What are you afraid of? With me here, you won't die," Ye Shuli patted his shoulder and comforted him.
"However..." she changed the subject, "there seems to be something in this pit..."
Looking in the direction of the beam of light, the bottom of the pit was found to be covered with countless spirit ants!
These spirit ants are pure white, much larger than ordinary ants, and emit a faint fluctuation of spiritual energy.
"Holy crap! So many ants!" Jiang Ye's scalp tingled. "Li'er, let's run away!"
"Run? Where do you think you can run?" Ye Shuli sneered. "With so many ants, do you think you can escape?"
"What should we do? We can't just wait to die, can we?" Jiang Ye was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan.
"What's the panic? Watch me!" Ye Shuli smiled confidently and took out a glass bottle from her backpack, which contained some pale yellow liquid.
"What is this?" Jiang Ye asked curiously.
"Ant repellent, specially made." Ye Shuli smiled mysteriously, opened the bottle cap, and poured the liquid onto the edge of the pit.
A pungent odor filled the air, and the ants began to stir and scatter in all directions.
"Li'er, this thing of yours really works!" Jiang Ye was dumbfounded.
"Of course, look who did it." Ye Shuli proudly raised her chin.
Taking advantage of the ants' panic, Ye Shuli pulled Jiang Ye up the pit wall.
As soon as the two climbed out of the pit, they heard a huge roar behind them.
Looking back, they saw that the bottom of the pit had suddenly collapsed, revealing a huge cave.
Deep within the cave, a powerful surge of spiritual energy emanated, sending chills down one's spine.
"Holy crap! Could this be some kind of boss's lair down there?" Jiang Ye exclaimed.
Ye Shuli narrowed her eyes, gazing into the depths of the cave, a glint of excitement flashing in them: "Perhaps we've found treasure..."
