A magical journey of a sharp-tongued woman and a goofy man
Chapter 4 Exploring the Cultivation Grounds
Deep in the jungle, sunlight is fragmented by the dense foliage, casting dappled patterns on the ground.
Ye Shuli followed behind Jiang Ye, cautiously observing the surrounding environment.
I couldn't help but think to myself: Is this kid going to sell me out?
There wasn't a soul in sight in this desolate wilderness.
Jiang Ye seemed to sense her unease, turned around and grinned: "Don't worry, Sister Li, I won't sell you. At most, I'll pawn you."
Ye Shuli rolled her eyes: "Heh, you better not try anything funny."
"Heaven and earth bear witness, I am a pure and kind young man." Jiang Ye said sincerely, then lowered his voice and said mysteriously, "Let me tell you, this place used to be the residence of a big shot, supposedly a Spirit Venerable! Impressive, right?"
Ye Shuli raised an eyebrow, showing interest: "Spirit Lord? Does that mean there are treasures everywhere?"
“That’s how it is in theory,” Jiang Ye said, stroking his chin with feigned profundity. “However, the residences of these big shots usually have some small mechanisms and traps, you know what I mean.”
"A trap?" Ye Shuli's heart skipped a beat. "You didn't lead me into a den of thieves, did you?"
Jiang Ye chuckled, "Sister Li, your imagination is too vivid. Don't worry, with me here, I guarantee you'll be unharmed." As he spoke, he pulled out a strange compass from his pocket, "This is my family heirloom, specially used to detect danger."
Ye Shuli looked at the compass and thought it looked like a fake she'd found at a street stall.
However, for now, we have no choice but to believe him.
"Let's go then." Jiang Ye put away the compass and continued walking forward.
The two walked for a while longer, and the surrounding trees became taller and taller, and the air became more and more humid.
Ye Shuli felt uneasy, as if something was secretly watching them.
"Wait." Ye Shuli suddenly stopped, her eyes scanning her surroundings warily. "I feel like something's not right."
Jiang Ye also stopped, his expression turning serious: "What's wrong?"
Ye Shuli shook her head: "I can't quite put my finger on it, it's just a feeling..."
Jiang Ye looked around and said in a deep voice, "Be careful and stay close to me."
The two continued walking forward, taking each step with extreme care.
Suddenly, Jiang Ye grabbed Ye Shuli and whispered, "Shh, don't make a sound." He pointed ahead, and Ye Shuli looked in the direction he was pointing. She saw something flickering slightly on the ground not far away…
"What is that?" Ye Shuli asked in a low voice.
Jiang Ye narrowed his eyes, observed carefully for a moment, and his expression changed slightly: "Not good..."
"Oh no, it's a trap!" Before Jiang Ye could finish speaking, the ground beneath their feet collapsed instantly, revealing a large, dark pit.
Jiang Ye reacted quickly, grabbing Ye Shuli's arm and trying to pull her back.
However, Ye Shuli is not the kind of delicate parasitic flower.
In a flash, she shifted her center of gravity downwards, firmly planted her feet, and miraculously stabilized herself using her knowledge of modern physics.
Not only that, she also pulled Jiang Ye back from the fall.
"Wow! Sister Li, you've been hiding your true abilities!" Jiang Ye exclaimed in shock, as if he had discovered a new continent.
Ye Shuli clapped her hands, her face showing a "basic skills" expression: "Calm down, I have some special skills."
The two had just escaped death and hadn't even had a chance to catch their breath when they heard rustling sounds coming from all directions.
Immediately afterwards, a group of strangely shaped creatures sprang out of the bushes and surrounded them.
These creatures are not large, resembling enlarged squirrels, but their eyes gleam with a fierce light, and their sharp claws gleam coldly in the sunlight.
"What the hell is this thing?" Ye Shuli frowned; it looked a bit creepy.
“They are the guardian beasts here, the Gale Rats.” Jiang Ye’s expression was solemn. “Although their level is not high, there are many of them, and they are very fast.”
Ye Shuli chuckled lightly: "That's it? I thought it was some kind of monster. You didn't think I'd be afraid of these little things, did you?"
Jiang Ye was about to warn her to be careful when he saw Ye Shuli's lips curl into a sly smile as her gaze swept over the surrounding branches and vines...
"Come on, little ones, let me teach you how to be mice!"
The monsters squeaked and roared as they surged forward like a tide.
Ye Shuli was not someone to be trifled with. She curled her lips into a "That's all?" expression.
With lightning speed, she tore off a vine and quickly wove a simple lasso trap, her skill as adept as Robinson Crusoe reborn.
"Sister Li, that's amazing!" Jiang Ye was dumbfounded. This move was simply too good!
"Basic operation, don't make a fuss." Ye Shuli calmly tossed her hair, then suddenly pulled the vine, instantly trapping several of the leading Gale Rats, which squealed and cried out, much like silly netizens caught in a net.
Jiang Ye seized the opportunity, gathered spiritual power in his hands, and shot out several beams of spiritual power, hitting the target squarely!
Several Gale Rats were instantly killed.
"That's fantastic!" Ye Shuli cheered wildly from the side. "No wonder he's the little brother I trained; he's got potential!"
Seeing this, the remaining Gale Rats not only did not retreat, but instead pounced even more fiercely.
Ye Shuli's eyes darted around, and a plan came to her mind.
She tore down more vines and darted quickly through the woods, weaving a giant "spider web".
"Little ones, come play hide-and-seek!" Ye Shuli smiled wickedly, just like a big bad wolf luring little white rabbits.
The Swiftwind Rats had no idea what kind of trick this was. They plunged headlong into the "spider web" and were instantly entangled and unable to move, just like single dogs being pressured to get married by their relatives during the Chinese New Year.
Seeing this, Jiang Ye once again used his spiritual power to kill the trapped Gale Rats one by one.
The battle ended, and the two high-fived to celebrate their victory.
"Sister Li, you're amazing!" Jiang Ye exclaimed with admiration, his eyes sparkling.
"So-so, third in the world." Ye Shuli waved her hand modestly, but secretly she was delighted: My modern knowledge is no joke!
However, just as the two relaxed their guard, Jiang Ye accidentally stepped on a sharp stone, slipped, and almost fell.
Ye Shuli reacted quickly and caught him.
"Be careful, silly boy," Ye Shuli asked with concern. "Are you alright?"
"It's nothing, just a scrape." Jiang Ye smiled and shook his head, but his eyes were fixed on Ye Shuli's hand.
Ye Shuli then realized that she was still holding Jiang Ye's hand tightly.
Her face flushed slightly, and she tried to pull her hand away, but Jiang Ye grabbed it instead.
“Sister Li…” Jiang Ye looked at her affectionately, a hint of cunning in his eyes.
Ye Shuli's heart raced; she sensed the atmosphere was somewhat awkward.
Just then, she suddenly felt a slight tremor beneath her feet...
“Wait,” Ye Shuli suddenly raised her head and looked around, “Something seems wrong…” The ground began to tremble, and the surrounding trees shook even more violently.
Ye Shuli and Jiang Ye exchanged a glance, both seeing shock and a hint of fear in each other's eyes.
Before they could react, a huge crack suddenly appeared in the ground, and a thick stone pillar, carrying dust and fallen leaves, slammed down on them with overwhelming force, like a sleeping giant awakening!
"Holy crap! Are they serious?!" Ye Shuli exclaimed in surprise. This trap was too ruthless; it was practically designed to kill them!
"Sister Li, run!" Jiang Ye shouted, pulling Ye Shuli aside to hide.
"Run? Where do you think you're going? This thing is way thicker than my legs!" Ye Shuli complained as she ran for her life alongside Jiang Ye.
"Over here!" Jiang Ye spotted a huge rock next to the stone pillar, which he could use as a temporary shelter.
The two of them exerted all their strength and finally managed to hide behind the rocks before the stone pillar could fall.
With a loud "boom," the stone pillar crashed heavily onto the ground, kicking up clouds of dust.
Ye Shuli and Jiang Ye hid behind the rocks, still shaken.
"Wow, this is so exciting!" Ye Shuli patted her chest, feeling like her heart was about to jump out of her chest.
"Sister Li, are you alright?" Jiang Ye asked with concern.
"It's alright, I won't die." Ye Shuli waved her hand. "But this place is too dangerous, let's leave quickly!"
Jiang Ye nodded and was about to get up when his expression suddenly changed, and he pushed Ye Shuli to the ground...
"careful!"
