Chapter 309 Palpatine Takes the Stage Personally
A tense and solemn atmosphere permeated the bridge of the Hope-class cruiser.
The Galactic Republic admiral stood before the command platform, his brow furrowed, deep in thought.
Just then, Palpatine suddenly appeared on the bridge, followed closely by four red-clad guards.
Palpatine's arrival broke the silence on the bridge, his voice echoing in the air: "How is the battle going, Admiral?"
The admiral's thoughts were interrupted by the sudden question. He quickly regained his composure and replied, "So far, things are developing according to plan."
Palpatine slowly walked to the command platform, his eyes fixed on the projected battle map.
He carefully observed every detail on the battlefield, and after a moment of silence, his voice rang out again: "The advance is still too slow."
The admiral's heart tightened, and he quickly explained, "Speaker, I've done my best..."
However, before he could finish speaking, he suddenly felt a powerful force gripping his throat, preventing him from continuing.
His toes slowly left the ground, and his body involuntarily dangled in the air.
Palpatine turned around, his dark gold eyes gleaming with a chilling light, staring directly at the Galactic Republic admiral.
That icy gaze seemed to pierce through one's soul, making the general feel as if he had fallen into an ice cave, his whole body chilled to the bone.
“I will personally lead the Red Guards,” Palpatine’s voice was calm yet cold. “Don’t disappoint me, General.”
After saying that, Palpatine released his grip, and the Galactic Republic admiral fell heavily to the ground.
He was breathing heavily, his forehead covered in cold sweat.
Palpatine walked past him without glancing at him again and left the bridge.
His figure gradually disappeared at the exit of the bridge, leaving behind an admiral with a look of fear and anxiety.
At that moment, Grievous keenly realized that the tide of war was gradually turning in the favor of the Galactic Republic.
Faced with this situation, he knew that time was of the essence and he had to quickly find a way to break through the predicament.
He looked around, surrounded by fifty-five heavily armored Bloodletters equipped by Kirsaj, as well as five powerful Red Letter mages.
Normally, such an elite force would be enough to change the course of a battle. However, the enemy they faced was not an ordinary army, but a clone army.
There is no fundamental difference between clone commanders and clone soldiers; therefore, decapitation strikes have a negligible impact on the clone army.
Dispersing this royal guard across various fronts might pose some obstacles to the clone army, but it wouldn't effectively delay their advance and could even lead to the dispersal of forces, wasting the advantage of this powerful force.
In addition, Grievous had learned from Skywalker that the personal guards provided by Kil'Sage were best deployed in multiples of five.
Although Grievous didn't know what this meant, he had no intention of provoking a Sith Lord who could crush his head at any moment.
Of course, whether Kilzach was truly the Lord of the Sith remains a question.
Just as Grievous's thoughts were wandering like wild horses, a sudden message came from the front lines, like a lightning bolt piercing the dark night sky.
"Palpatine is on the battlefield? Are you sure you're not seeing things?" Griffith's voice was filled with astonishment and disbelief. He stared wide-eyed at the officer in the projection, as if trying to see through the other's eyes to verify the news.
“Absolutely true, General!” the officer said with unusual firmness. “We’re almost at our breaking point!”
Cold sweat beaded on his forehead, clearly intimidated by Palpatine's formidable strength.
However, for Grievous, this news was like a ray of light in the darkness.
Although he knew that his fighting strength might not be able to compete with Palpatine, the Sith Lord, he still had the personal guard bestowed upon him by Kirsaj!
"Immediately notify the Navy and have them send TIE interceptors to provide us with air cover!" Griffiths gave the order to his adjutant without hesitation, his voice revealing a resolute and decisive tone.
While Palpatine was still unleashing his terrifying Force lightning on the battlefield, giving the Galactic Empire's droids and soldiers "electrotherapy," Grievous was already leading his evil creations from the Warp, speeding down the road to assassinate Palpatine.
"Evacuate this area! Now!"
"All exits are blocked! Where can we escape to?!"
"Ah! Never mind! Let's fight him!"
"Fire! You stupid robots!"
"Understand."
On the Galactic Empire's front lines, Imperial soldiers clad in heavy combat and power armor nervously directed droids to defend against the fierce attacks of the clone legion and the Red Guard.
These clone legions and the Red Guards surged like a raging torrent, relentlessly assaulting the Empire's defenses.
However, what truly terrified the Imperial soldiers was the Sith who wielded a lightsaber and used it in a dazzling display of lightning.
The Sith Lord's swordsmanship was fierce; with each surge of Force, he could easily kill a group of soldiers, putting immense pressure on the Empire's defenses.
Although the Galactic Empire's army is not a force that can only win when things are going well, it is indeed slightly inferior in strength compared to the clone army.
In the past, the Galactic Empire's army was able to compensate for the lack of individual soldier quality by relying on various advanced armored vehicles and a massive number of robots.
However, at this moment, this hastily deployed army clearly did not receive sufficient equipment support.
This was their first major battle since joining the Galactic Empire, and it was a direct confrontation with one of the most powerful legions in the galaxy, without fleet support and with insufficient numbers of droids and vehicles.
To make matters worse, the opposing force also included the Red Guards, one of the galaxy's top soldiers, posing an unprecedented and severe challenge to the Galactic Empire's army.
However, it is worth mentioning that the generous benefits enjoyed by soldiers of the Galactic Empire and its powerful navy meant that the soldiers on this front never even considered surrendering.
Therefore, when Grievous led his personal guard to the vicinity of the position, he was surprised to find that the soldiers were still stubbornly holding the position.
At that moment, the TIE interceptor squadron, having completed its escort mission, quickly broke away from the main force, and its four powerful blast cannons began firing continuously, instantly destroying several clone army tanks.
Immediately afterwards, the Fortress Eagles, an improvement on the Storm Eagle by Kirsaj, descended like a group of terrifying aerial titans, unleashing their fierce firepower mercilessly upon the enemy's attacking force.
The rapidly firing plasma cannons mounted on these Fortress Eagles, with astonishing speed and destructive power, quickly reduced the clone attack waves to ashes, with only a very few lucky clone soldiers surviving this devastating attack.
Griffiths led his guards as they leaped from the fortress eagle and landed steadily on the ground.
His gaze was intense, fixed on Palpatine, who had appeared in the Galactic Republic's camp. Palpatine seemed to have noticed Griffith's gaze as well, and turned his gaze back to him.
