The Transmigrated Farm Girl's Journey to Wealth

Chapter 56 The Unrelenting Song Family

After the autumn harvest, Cui Hehua was exhausted, thinner, darker-skinned, and her skin became rough. It took her several days to recover. No matter how much her mother-in-law scolded her, she just stayed in bed, refusing to move.

Looking at his new wife, Wang Defa felt a little disgusted. Why? Because she wasn't as pretty as before, and her skin didn't feel as good as it used to, which made him lose interest in her lately.

Cui Hehua rested for seven or eight days before recovering. After a few days of rest, she realized that if she really didn't want to work, her mother-in-law couldn't do anything about it. At most, she would just get a few scoldings, but she would rather be scolded than work herself to the bone.

So, after recovering, Cui Hehua stopped working. How could Song Shi tolerate this? If she didn't work, she would be the one suffering. Her two sisters-in-law would only work if she did it, and she would have to do more than them.

In recent years, they have all been spoiled by Fang Xiaoning.

"Lotus, you need to help with the housework too. What's wrong with you lying around in the house all day?"

"I am tired."

“If you’re tired, then I’m not tired. Even if you’re tired, you can rest for a few days. Tomorrow, you can’t keep shirking your responsibilities.”

She won't go out, and her mother curses at their door every day, making it impossible for him to concentrate on his studies. It's so annoying!

Cui Hehua glared at Wang Defa's back, wishing she could burn a hole in it. "You bastard! Why don't you do it yourself? Why don't you be a dutiful son? Anyone can say sarcastic things."

The happy life was too short-lived. Under the pressure from Wang Defa and his mother, Cui Hehua returned to her previous miserable life. Song Shi was inhuman; to punish her for her previous laziness, she intensified her efforts, placing almost all the housework on her shoulders.

Wang Defa, however, was solely focused on his studies, oblivious to the world around him. He was quite pleased with Cui Hehua's sensibility; finally, he had some peace and quiet.

As for Song, she was as smug as a victorious hen.

"Defa, could you massage me? My body is really sore."

After a few days of rest, she really couldn't handle the sudden surge of work.

Wang Defa naturally ignored her. As a man and the head of the family, he had no reason to serve a woman.

"Lotus, you must remember, I am your heaven. You must respect and honor me. Serving others is something only you can do for me, not the other way around. Do you understand?"

I don't understand you!

The longer she spent time with Wang Defa, the more disappointed she became, and the more she felt she had made a mistake in her initial investment. Could such a selfish and ruthless person truly share in her future success and prosperity?

Looking at her rough little hands, she felt she wouldn't be able to wait until he went to take the imperial examination.

"Defa, have you heard? Song Feng, that is, Fang Xiaoning's family, is going to build a house, a brick and tile house."

"They're a poor family, where would they get the money? Don't listen to the gossip of the women at the village entrance." He hated them the most; they would always gather together to chat about this family and that family, long-tongued women.

"It's true. The village chief and Foreman Song are looking for workers for them. Everyone in the village has gone."

Wang Defa lost all interest in studying again. Where did the Song family get the money? He couldn't figure it out. The thought of Fang Xiaoning wanting to live in a nice house and have a good life made him feel extremely anxious.

The woman he abandoned deserves to struggle in the mud for the rest of her life. Now that the Song family is doing well, isn't that a slap in his face?

Cui Hehua was also thinking about this, thinking about Song Feng. Late at night, the two of them were sleeping in the same bed but dreaming different dreams, each with their own thoughts, and neither of them could sleep.

The next day, when Song got up, she saw the cold stove. "Hehua, Cui Hehua! Are you dead? Why aren't you up and cooking at this hour, you lazy woman? Are you glued to the bed? Get up and cook!"

Both of them had been sleeping soundly since they had been suffering from insomnia the night before, and were quite annoyed to be woken up. Cui Hehua buried her head in the blanket and pretended to be dead.

Song kept banging on the door from outside.

"Get up quickly."

Wang Defa, who was woken up, was a bit grumpy in the morning. He kicked her, but she still didn't move.

The shouting and cursing outside grew louder, and the person in bed refused to get up. Wang Defa, exasperated, ripped off her blanket and kicked her hard. "Hurry up and cook, you lazy woman! When Grandpa gets up, you'll be sorry!"

Cui Hehua endured and suppressed her emotions, knowing now was not the time to confront them. She silently got up, opened the door, ignored Song Shi standing there, and went straight to the kitchen.

Song was ignored. "Defa, look at her!"

"Mom, I'm tired. I didn't sleep well last night."

Hearing that her son hadn't slept well, Song immediately calmed down. "Go to sleep, go to sleep. I'll heat up your breakfast. Eat it when you wake up!" She even thoughtfully closed the door behind her as she left.

After the meal, Cui Hehua found Song Shi and made it clear that from now on, she would do the chopping of firewood and gathering of pig feed, and cook lunch and dinner. She shouldn't expect to do anything else.
