For people from island nations, if you have value, you're considered their father.

You're worthless, not even as good as a grandson.

Acknowledging that Chen Dong's 361° company was nothing to Sega, Yamamoto Ichiro, as the marketing manager, didn't need to be so polite to Chen Dong.

But Ichiro Yamamoto did it anyway, which is perhaps why he was able to sit in the position of marketing manager.

It's also possible that the collaboration with 361 to sell Kairosoft cartridge games together made Sega a lot of money.

Sega earned more money than 361 Inc. by helping to sell Kairosoft games on cartridges in Japan.

It's less of a collaboration and more of an employment arrangement for Sega.

But there is nothing that can be done about it.

First, there's the size; second, it's a foreign country; third, there's the level of talent and technology; and fourth, there's the market.

These four points meant that Chen Dong had to make significant concessions.

361 Company was established in 94. It spent a whole year developing in the country and earned more than six million. After paying taxes, half of the remaining amount was invested in a pig farm that raises twins and triplets.

In 1995, they partnered with Sega and raked in 15 million, paying half of that in taxes, which was 7.5 million. Meanwhile, the domestic 361 antivirus software and other cartridge games brought in 1.5 million after taxes.

These funds were then reinvested: three million to expand the pig farm with multiple births, one million to Haidilao restaurant managed by the third aunt Chen Guilan, and five hundred thousand to chicken farm managed by the second aunt Chen Meiju.

With the remaining three million, they purchased Shenzhen Xingyao Electronics, leaving them with only a few million in liquid funds. This money was used to expand their operations (by renting an extra floor) and to recruit employees, purchase more vehicles, employee dormitories, and so on.

In the first half of 1996, the crackdown on piracy and the expansion of business to Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Chongqing resulted in a net profit of 3 million out of the 7 million earned after tax. Domestic revenue increased significantly due to the crackdown on piracy, with net income of 1 million after tax in the first half of the year, almost equivalent to a whole year in the past.

Chen Dong didn't touch the four million yuan.

In the first half of this year, 361 Inc. earned 15 million pre-tax dollars in Japan thanks to the Cairo series. Not to mention how much Sega earned, it must have been more than 20 million RMB before tax, which is more than 100 million yen.

After exchanging pleasantries with Chen Dong, Yamamoto Ichiro glanced at Chu Mengran, thought for a moment, and then smiled at Chen Dong, saying, "Mr. Chen, your wife isn't in this industry. Isn't it too boring for her to listen to us talk about company matters?"

"How about I have Miss Miyamoto accompany your wife to the reception room to play some console games?"

The console games mentioned here refer to Sega game consoles, like the Little Tyrant (or NES).

The Little Tyrant was a copy of Sega and Nintendo.

Chen Dong thought about it and felt there was nothing wrong with it, then glanced at Chu Mengran.

Chu Mengran nodded obediently and smiled at Miyamoto Rangiku.

Then, she left with Miyamoto Rangiku, chatting and laughing.

After the two left, Chen Dong's expression turned serious. He looked at Yamamoto Ichiro and went straight to the point: "Mr. Yamamoto, you invited 361 to this exchange and learning event on behalf of Sega. It must be more than just a simple exchange and learning event, right?"

Upon hearing this, Li Hua, who had been quite relaxed, immediately became alert and reverted to her professional demeanor.

"Yoshi, as expected of Chen-san, the best in the country!"

Yamamoto Ichiro clapped his hands in praise, then nodded and replied with a slightly serious expression, "Exchange and learning are the main focus, and that will not change. Mr. Chen's 361 Company has advantages that our island nation game companies do not possess, and it is something that Sega should learn from."

"Please do not doubt this point, Mr. Chen."

Chen Dong nodded to indicate that he understood and knew that Yamamoto Ichiro was not lying.

Because Kairosoft games are truly amazing.

This is like placing Minecraft in a AAA game.

Damn it, our Sega partner spent tens of millions of yen developing games, and the sales figures are nowhere near as good as your bunch of pixelated garbage made with tens of thousands of yuan. How can we stand this?

Pixel games can sell like hotcakes, just look at Sister Li! If you don't understand, you should learn!

That's just how islanders are; they're as polite as grandchildren before they learn anything.

After you learn it... hehehe~

Chen Dong asked curiously, "Besides exchanging and learning, what else?"

Yamamoto Ichiro smiled slightly and said, "Besides exchanging and learning, I wonder if Mr. Chen is aware of the excellence of his own 361 Company, and whether he aspires to expand rapidly, perhaps becoming a behemoth like Sega in Datang?"

Upon hearing this, Li Hua and the others were shocked, and then completely bewildered.

Chen Dong, however, became alert and, without waiting for Yamamoto Ichiro to explain, bluntly refused, saying, "I'm sorry, 361 Inc. will not go public or raise funds; I only intend to operate as a sole proprietorship."

"???"

Yamamoto Ichiro almost couldn't keep up the smile on his face.

No financing, no IPO? Then how will you make money and cash out, how will you fleece investors?

You think you can rely on selling games through hard work? You're the boss, not an employee!

They quickly transformed a company with tens of millions in funding into one with hundreds of millions, then manipulated the stock market, selling off shares when prices rose to fleece investors and buying back shares when prices fell.

By keeping his shareholding unchanged, he could amass hundreds of millions of RMB in cash within two years.

Why not?

Relying solely on the company to earn profits and then distribute dividends would take forever!

“Mr. Chen, it’s not a big deal if we don’t go public, but if you don’t even raise funds, you’ll miss out on development opportunities.”

"The current international situation..."

Yamamoto Ichiro went on and on about how great things would be after the funding round, without mentioning anything negative about it.

Financing can certainly expand a company, allowing it to grow into a behemoth at an extremely rapid pace.

The problem is that after the financing, Chen Dong is no longer in charge on his own.

What? A 61% controlling stake? Give me a break.

Apple's founders were praised to the skies, and then they were kicked out.

To put it simply, I'll first bring your IQ down to the same level as ours, and then use our foolish experience to defeat you.

Let me rephrase that: I'll first lure you into the capital market, and then use our extensive network, capital, and experience to kick you out of here.

Chen Dong was very wary of this; he didn't believe that Sega would be any better after receiving funding.

"So, Mr. Chen, you understand and get to work? As long as Sega raises funds from your 361 Company, you can immediately expand your business to most parts of the domestic and island nations at an extremely fast pace."

"Instead of being limited to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and the three super first-tier cities."

"This is a great thing for you, for the company, and for your employees."

Yamamoto Ichiro earnestly advised him, appearing entirely to be acting in Chen Donghao's best interest.
