"Yueyue, look at those snacks over there, let's go buy some and try them."

Tao Hao pointed to a food stall, his eyes filled with a hint of flattery, as if it were a treasure he had carefully prepared for Shen Yue.

Shen Yue looked in the direction he pointed, her lips curving upwards into a perfectly timed smile.

That smile was like the warm sun in winter, yet it felt somewhat unreal.

She said softly, "Okay, you're so thoughtful."

Tao Hao pulled Shen Yue to the food stall, as if it were the liveliest place in the world.

He ordered several snacks, such as candied hawthorn, stinky tofu, and roasted gluten. It seemed like he ordered quite a lot, but each one was a cheap snack.

He pretended to be nonchalant as he took out his wallet to pay, but in his mind he was secretly calculating the cost.

He thought to himself, "If it's any more expensive, I won't have enough money saved up."

He handed the snacks to Shen Yue with a smug smile on his face, as if he had brought her the most delicious food in the world.

Tao Hao said with a smile, "Yueyue, this was bought especially for you. Try it, it's sure to be delicious."

Shen Yue took the snack, took a bite of the candied hawthorn, and the sweet taste spread in her mouth, but her heart was not filled with this sweetness.

She felt that no matter how sweet the candied hawthorn was, it couldn't make her feel any more favorably toward Tao Hao's "performance".

Shen Yue's smile was somewhat perfunctory, and she thought to herself, "Buying these cheap things, and she still wants to please me. Humph, really."

However, she still politely said, "Haohao, it's delicious, thank you."

Next, they went into a clothing store.

The store had a wide variety of clothing styles, with colorful and dazzling designs, but most of them were cheap, unbranded items.

Tao Hao walked around the store and felt that as long as the clothes matched Shen Yue's style, they were fine; he didn't care at all whether they had a brand name.

Tao Hao picked up a piece of clothing and held it up in front of Shen Yue: "Yueyue, this outfit suits you very well. You'll definitely look good in it."

"Look at this color, it matches your temperament perfectly; and look at this style, it's very fashionable, you'll definitely be at the forefront of fashion when you wear it."

Shen Yue looked at the clothes; the style was ordinary, the fabric was average, and it even felt a bit rough to the touch.

But she nodded nonetheless and said, "Hmm, it looks pretty good."

Tao Hao immediately ran off to pay the bill, just like a child who had completed a task.

As if she had accomplished something extraordinary, she muttered to herself, "As long as you like it, that's all that matters. I think this dress suits you very well, and you'll definitely look amazing in it."

After that, they went to a small shop that sells bags.

The store displayed a variety of bags in different styles. Tao Hao glanced at them quickly and then picked out a bag that looked pretty good.

He handed it to Shen Yue and said, "Yueyue, this bag is for you. Do you like it? I fell in love with it at first sight. I think it suits your style perfectly."

Shen Yue took the bag, glanced at the price tag, and sneered inwardly.

Although it looks decent on the outside, considering the actual quality of the bag, it's neither a designer brand nor expensive, it's practically garbage.

But she still smiled and said, "I like it, you're so kind."

She thought to herself, "He thinks he can just get rid of me with some cheap stuff? I didn't realize he was so eager to show off."

As time went on, Shen Yue's feelings for Tao Hao became increasingly subtle.

The initial passionate feeling of reunion, like ice under the sun, gradually melted and cooled.

Tao Hao, however, was completely unaware of this. He was overjoyed and even thought about taking Shen Yue out to eat so they could enjoy this rare moment together.

"Yueyue, let's go eat. I know a restaurant that makes really delicious noodles."

"That's a hidden gem of a shop that I stumbled upon. I heard their rice noodles are really chewy."

Tao Hao said with great interest, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

Shen Yue hesitated for a moment. She knew what kind of shop this was, but she didn't refuse. She wanted to see what other tricks Tao Hao could pull.

She said softly, "Okay, then... let's go try it."

Tao Hao led Shen Yue to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant.

The restaurant's entrance is inconspicuous, and the small storefront exudes an old-fashioned atmosphere.

Stepping into the store, the lighting was dim, and the tables and chairs were arranged haphazardly, as if they had been moved in and placed haphazardly.

There were some greasy water stains on the ground, and it felt sticky underfoot.

The walls were mottled and covered with stains and oil marks, which made people feel uneasy.

The shop was filled with a mixture of cooking fumes and various other smells, and the air was filled with the noise of people, making it feel more like a noisy little market than a restaurant.

Shen Yue walked into the store, her brows furrowing slightly, a hint of disdain flashing in her eyes.

Her steps slowed slightly, but she remained silent and forced herself to find a seat closer to the corner.

She thought to herself, "This place is so dirty and messy, how could I choose to eat here?"

"Yueyue, the noodles at this shop are the best I've ever had. You have to try them."

Tao Hao enthusiastically introduced the dish, as if the noodles at this shop were the most delicious thing in the world.

He skillfully picked up the menu, which was somewhat worn and the writing was a little blurry.

Then he quickly ordered a plate of their signature rice noodles. "Let me tell you," he said, "the taste of their signature rice noodles is unforgettable."

A short while later, the noodles were served.

The large bowl of rice noodles was placed on the table, steaming hot, with the steam swirling in the air and releasing a fragrant aroma.

But Shen Yue felt that there was a strange smell mixed in with the fragrance, a smell that seemed to come from the oil stains on the ground, or from the greasy walls.

She nodded casually, picked up her chopsticks, but her eyes darted around, and she forced herself to eat a few bites.

She put down her chopsticks after eating about a third of the food.

Looking at the remaining noodles in the bowl, she felt even more uncomfortable.

From the ambiance to the food, nothing about this meal was satisfactory.

Tao Hao looked at Shen Yue with concern and asked, "Yueyue, why are you eating so little? Is it because you have a poor appetite? Or do you have a cold?"

As he spoke, he reached out and touched Shen Yue's forehead with some force.

The rough texture made Shen Yue frown, but she forced herself not to move away.

"Hmm, it's not hot, no fever."

Shen Yue forced a smile and said, following Tao Hao's words, "I don't have a cold. I just don't have much of an appetite today. It's nothing."

In her heart, she thought, "Eating in a place like this is really beneath me. The noodles are just so-so, and the environment is so bad, it's really awful."

Tao Hao was unaware of Shen Yue's thoughts and kept urging her to eat more.
