Chapter 192 Meeting Kind People in Times of Trouble

"Oh! Uncle Li, you don't know, my luck today has been absolutely terrible! I was thinking of going up the mountain to chop some firewood to get through the winter, but who knew that it would start pouring rain halfway there. I hurriedly picked up the firewood and rushed home, but I accidentally tripped and fell flat on my face. Ouch, it hurts so much!" Congcong complained to Uncle Li with a dejected look on his face.

Upon hearing this, Grandpa Li quickly stepped forward and carefully checked Congcong for any injuries: "Oh dear, Congcong, let Grandpa see if you're hurt anywhere! The mountain road is slippery in the rain, so you have to be careful!"

Seeing that Congcong only had some scratches and was otherwise unharmed, he breathed a slight sigh of relief, and then said to Congcong with great concern and earnestness:

"Child, now that the firewood has been chopped, don't worry about it. Grandpa will carry this load home for you. Go find a place to shelter from the rain for a while, take off your soaking wet clothes, wring them out thoroughly, and put them back on. Be careful not to catch a cold! It would be a real loss if you got sick!"

Grandpa Li took the bundle of firewood and strode forward with great strides. Congcong found a dilapidated thatched hut and hid inside. He took off his soaking wet clothes, wrung them out, and then wrapped his coat tightly around himself. Although his body was still shivering, his heart was filled with warmth.

He was filled with gratitude and felt he had to thank God properly. Because at that most difficult and almost hopeless moment, the god of fate favored him and allowed him to meet that kind-hearted man—Grandpa Li.

After resting for only a few minutes, Congcong couldn't wait to catch up with Grandpa Li, who was walking further and further away.

After all, Grandpa Li is almost sixty years old! Time waits for no one, and he's not exactly young anymore! Thinking of this, Congcong couldn't bear to let Grandpa Li go through all that trouble to escort the heavy firewood all the way home.

So Congcong quickened his pace and finally caught up with Grandpa Li, panting heavily.

He was panting heavily, and said to Grandpa Li sincerely and urgently, "Grandpa Li, thank you so much for helping me carry this heavy load of firewood! But I'll carry the rest of the way myself!"

Upon hearing Congcong's words, Grandpa Li slowly put down the load of firewood on his shoulder.

He smiled as he looked at the sensible and determined child in front of him, a hint of satisfaction and appreciation in his eyes.

Then she replied gently, "Good child, in that case, let's do as you say. Fortunately, the rain has stopped now, and the road is much easier to walk on. You can continue the journey on your own!"

Congcong said goodbye to Grandpa Li, picked up his firewood, and, full of energy, hurried home.

When he got home, his mother saw his soaked clothes and tired face, and scolded him with heartache, "Why are you so stubborn? It's raining so hard, and you still carried firewood home. Look at you, you're all soaked."

Congcong smiled and reassured his mother, "Mom, don't worry. I'm perfectly fine, aren't I?"

After hearing this, the mother shook her head helplessly and said, "You child, I just can't do anything with you. Go and change into some clean clothes and have some hot soup."

Congcong nodded and went into the room to change his soaking wet clothes. Then, he sat in front of the stove, drinking the hot soup his mother had cooked for him, his heart filled with happiness and contentment.

The rain fell softly, as if the sky were telling its secrets. Gradually, the raindrops grew smaller and smaller until they finally stopped completely.

The sun peeked out from behind the thick clouds, casting golden rays through the layers of clouds and scattering them like scattered gold across the vast land, bringing a rare warmth and light to this peaceful mountain village.

Congcong stood at the doorway, stretched lazily, then turned and slung his heavy schoolbag over his shoulder. The schoolbag was filled with his thirst for knowledge and his hopes for the future.

He looked up into the distance, and the sunlight shone directly on his vibrant face, gently caressing his skin and giving him an unprecedented warmth.

This warmth comes not only from the sunshine, but also from the anticipation he feels for a new day of learning and life deep within his heart.

He took a deep breath. The air was filled with the fragrance of earth after the rain and the scent of grass. The fresh smell entered his lungs through his nostrils, making him feel relaxed and refreshed.

Without hesitation, he strode forward, each step firm and powerful. The stone path beneath his feet was slippery from the rain, but this did not diminish his determination to move forward.

He gazed intently at the school not far ahead, the place where he pursued his dreams and the cradle of his growth.

Congcong's figure gradually disappeared into the distance, while the sunlight continued to shine quietly behind him, as if silently blessing this brave young man who was moving forward.

A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the trees along the roadside, and a few leaves danced and fluttered after his retreating figure, as if playing an inspiring melody for him.
