As a symbiotic being, I raise children amidst the chaos.
Chapter 24 Persuasion
This was the first time anyone, except Bronya, had ever seen Chen Yuan so angry; everyone was speechless with shock. The oppressive force of the black tentacles coiling around the room was immense.
“Little Master, please don’t be angry!” Seele immediately stood up, trying to ease the tension. She looked at Bronya with concern, then turned her gaze to Chenyuan, “We’re not against you, we’re just worried about your safety.”
"That's settled then. Once the preliminary experimental theory of the X-10 laboratory on the seabed of Okhotsk is completed, I will accompany you to participate in the experiment."
Retracting his tentacles, Chen Yuan jumped onto Cocolia. "Also, don't even think about trying to change my mind. I'm telling you, no way! Especially you, Bronya!"
After saying this, Chenyuan gave Cocolia a look. The latter understood and led Chenyuan out of the room. Now, only Bronya, Seele, and Xing remained in the room.
"I say, Chenyuan, weren't you a bit too harsh on Bronya...?" Cocolia whispered to Chenyuan on the way back to their room. "After all, those children were worried about you too~"
"It's precisely because they're worried about me that I can't let them conduct the experiments alone." Chen Yuan sighed. If it weren't for needing the data from the X-10 experiment to save the other children in the orphanage, Chen Yuan would have simply scrapped the project.
Why keep something that's bound to fail? It was just a preliminary experiment that Gray Serpent did to pull Kevin out of the Sea of Quanta. Although Cocolia did manage to save the children at Cocolia's Orphanage using the data from the subsequent experiments.
"Forget it, I don't want to think about it anymore!!" The more she thought about it, the more agitated she became. After entering Cocolia's room, she lay down on the bed in a huff. She put her hands behind her head and stared blankly at the ceiling.
"Alright, Chenyuan. I know what you're thinking." Cocolia gently closed the door, walked to the bedside and sat down, saying softly, "But Bronya and the others are the same. They're all doing this for each other's safety, so why can't we communicate properly?"
"You're so good at sweet talk!" He rolled his eyes at Cocolia, then reached out a tentacle and shoved her onto the bed. Burying himself in her soft embrace, he mumbled, "Sleep with me. I didn't sleep well last night..."
Meanwhile, in Bronya's room, Bronya remained in the same position as before, while Seele circled around her, unsure how to comfort her.
"Sister Bronya..."
“I’m fine, Seele.” Bronya interrupted Seele, her face somewhat somber. “I just… don’t know how to dissuade Brother Chenyuan from conducting his experiments.”
"Hmph, there's no way the few of us can stop God's plan." Xing glanced at Bronya, snorted, and sat down on the edge of the bed. "Instead of arguing here, we should work on training our ability to control Honkai energy."
"In that case, even if the gods conduct experiments with us, we will have a greater chance of making that X-10 experiment a success."
"But, Xing, don't you think the risk is too great?" Bronya frowned slightly, a hint of worry flashing in her eyes. "Although Brother Chenyuan's abilities are powerful, it is still an unknown experiment. What if something goes wrong..."
"What if something goes wrong? Who will be responsible?" Xing turned to Bronya, her tone dismissive. "Don't think too highly of yourself, Bronya. We're just kids. Instead of worrying about this and that, we should prepare ourselves and improve our strength."
After saying this, Xing jumped out of bed and walked outside. "I don't want to waste any more time here, and I want to make things easier for the God. If you still want to waste time standing here, then go ahead!"
When Xing opened the door, she immediately froze on the spot. Cocolia was standing in the doorway, while Chenyuan was perched on the latter's shoulder, hesitating whether or not to go in.
Let's rewind a bit. In Cocolia's room, Chen Yuan, lost in his own world of pleasure, kept bouncing around, which annoyed Cocolia to no end. She finally dragged Chen Yuan out of bed. "Are you going to sleep or not?!"
"Sleep, sleep, sleep my ass!" Chen Yuan struggled free from Cocolia's fingers, jumped onto the bed, his face full of worry. "Is this the pain of raising a child? I just yelled at them, and now I feel so sorry for them. I can't sleep at all!"
He tossed and turned in bed, his mind filled with conflict. He wasn't stupid; he knew Bronya and the others' concerns stemmed from their love for him, but he also understood that the current situation forced him to make this choice.
The X-10 experiment was more than just an experiment; it concerned the life and death of the other children at the Cocolia Orphanage, and as one of the founders of the Cocolia Orphanage, he had a responsibility to be accountable for these children!
“I don’t mean to make them worry about me,” Chen Yuan murmured to herself, as if speaking to the air. “But how can I be at ease, how can I ensure the safety of each and every one of them, if I don’t personally participate in the X-10 experiment?”
Dust Fate's words echoed in Cocolia's room, like a trapped ghost, unable to dissipate. The air seemed to grow heavy, filled with a stifling silence.
Cocolia lay quietly on the bed, her eyes filled with heartache, but when she looked at Chen Yuan's furrowed brows, her eyes were filled with complex emotions, like a small boat struggling in a turbulent sea.
At this moment, the person suffering the most is none other than Cocolia herself. To her, Chenyuan, Bronya, and the others are like the palm and back of her hand, both indispensable parts of her life.
The thought of anyone getting hurt would break her heart. But what pained her most was that she couldn't participate in the experiment and share the risk with them.
“They think so too,” Cocolia said softly, her voice tinged with an undisguised sadness and helplessness. “But have you ever considered that Bronya and the others feel the same way? The reason they worry about you is because you hold an important place in their hearts, and your safety is just as crucial to them.”
Chen Yuan paused, stopped what he was doing, and looked up at Cocolia. At that moment, Chen Yuan suddenly realized that he seemed to have been ignoring this point all along—in Bronya's and the others' hearts, he might also occupy an irreplaceable place, just as they did in his.
Should we apologize?
"Well... let's go."
Time flowed back to the present moment, and Xing was completely stunned, staring blankly at Chen Yuan. Chen Yuan, on the other hand, calmly put a finger to his lips, making a "shh" gesture to signal her to quiet down.
Xing immediately nodded in understanding and silently took two steps back.
'My God, I hope you can persuade Bronya, that stubborn person,' Xing prayed silently in her heart, then turned slightly to make way for Chenyuan and Cocolia.
At this moment, Xi'er noticed Chen Yuan entering the room and was about to greet him, but Chen Yuan stopped her with a look. After receiving Chen Yuan's instruction, Xi'er quietly walked to Xing's side and stood there.
"Alright, Annie, Seele. Come out for a walk with Mommy. Let Bronya and Chenyuan stay here." Cocolia bent down, took Seele and Annie's hands, and walked out of the room.
In the blink of an eye, only Chen Yuan and Bronya remained in the room. The latter simply stopped pretending and spoke calmly, "Brother Chen Yuan, you've come."
"Um...when did you notice me?"
“I recognized the footsteps as hers as soon as Cocolia’s mother stood at the door. It was easy to deduce the truth by following that line of reasoning.”
"As expected of you..." Chen Yuan shook his head with a wry smile and walked in from inside the door. Then he slowly approached Bronya.
“It’s just deduction, nothing special.” Bronya lowered her head, her voice somewhat dejected. “What good is being good at such trivial things? In the end, Brother Chenyuan still decided to participate in the X-10 experiment.”
Chen Yuan stood before her, his heart filled with complex emotions, the words he wanted to say swirling on his tongue. He knew perfectly well what Bronya was worried about, but there were some things he had to do.
“Bronya, listen to me.” After carefully considering his words, Chen Yuan sighed and prepared to get straight to the point. “I understand the special nature of the X-10 experiment better than anyone else, and I even know the consequences of its failure.”
"Trust me, I won't do anything I'm not sure I can handle." With that, several tentacles instantly sprouted from behind Chen Yuan, embracing Bronya and pulling her close. "Even if the experiment fails in the end, I'm 90% confident I'll survive!"
