Chapter 1 A twist of fate

Jade of Another World

Chapter 1: A Turning Point in Fate

On a sweltering summer night, the sky was shrouded as if by a giant black cloth. At first, only a few muffled claps of thunder could be heard, like a low roar from the depths of the distant horizon, shaking every inch of the earth. The air seemed to solidify, so oppressive that it was hard to breathe.

A breeze began to rise, just a gentle wisp, softly rustling the leaves. Soon, the wind picked up, growing stronger and stronger, turning into a raging roar. The branches swayed violently in the wind, as if struggling in agony. Leaves were swept up by the gale, dancing wildly in the air like butterflies lost at sea.

At this moment, in the research institute of City A, Zhang Yin, a young and promising medical doctor, stood by the laboratory window, gazing at the city lights outside, a sense of indescribable weariness filling her heart. Her life was filled with endless research and work, her days piled high with experiments. Today was her boyfriend's birthday, but because the experiment was at a critical juncture... She shook her head helplessly; it seemed she was about to have another ex-boyfriend.

However, the gears of fate quietly began to turn on this seemingly ordinary night. As Zhang Yin tirelessly and methodically conducted her experiments in the laboratory, a dazzling bolt of lightning ripped through the dark night sky, its light, like a sharp sword, instantly illuminating the entire world as if it were daytime. Immediately afterward, a deafening clap of thunder boomed, as if tearing the sky to shreds. The roar made the earth tremble, and the windows rattled loudly.

A strange light suddenly struck her in the laboratory, knocking her down. She felt a dizzying sensation and then lost consciousness.

Outside the window, rain poured down with the sound of thunder. Large raindrops pounded the ground, splashing up tiny droplets. Soon, the ground was a vast expanse of water, the currents rushing swiftly. Rainwater cascaded down the eaves, forming curtains of water, like a giant veil woven by nature.

This stormy night was destined to be extraordinary; the world seemed to be plunged into chaos. Lightning flashed across the sky time and again, thunder roared across the earth, and rain relentlessly washed everything away. The streets were deserted, with only the occasional vehicle struggling through the rain, splashing high into the air.

Inside, the lights flickered, creating a tense and oppressive atmosphere. Outside, the thunder and rain sounded like a natural symphony, a violent yet magnificent melody. Raindrops pounded against the windowpane, creating a deafening cacophony that instilled a sense of dread.

After an unknown amount of time, Zhang Yin slowly awoke to find herself in an unfamiliar place. She lay on an antique-style bed, surrounded by a classical atmosphere. Startled, she sat up, looking at her ancient attire, her mind filled with confusion.

Just then, a girl who looked like a maid walked in. Seeing that she was awake, she exclaimed with delight, "Miss, you're finally awake! You worried me so much!" Zhang Yin looked at her blankly, trying to process what was happening before her.

Through the maid's narration, Zhang Yin gradually learned that her current identity was Lin Ning, the unfavored legitimate daughter of the Prime Minister's mansion. This unfamiliar world filled her with both fear and curiosity.
