A bed that traverses countless worlds
Chapter 196 Wasteland Appears, Heroes Seek Survival
"Holy crap! System, what's going on? I'm on vacation!" Lin Yu woke up from a dizzying sensation and was met with ruins and rubble, the air thick with dust and some indescribable stench of decay.
The once towering skyscrapers are now just twisted steel skeletons, standing eerily under the dim sky like giant metal skulls.
"Which server crashed?" Lin Yu couldn't help but complain. He remembered that just a second ago he was enjoying flowers and applause at the Elf Clan's victory celebration, and the next second he was in this godforsaken place.
"A teleportation error? A bug? Or is some game designer playing another prank?"
Normally, we should find a safe place to hide and wait for the system to give us instructions.
But who is Lin Yu?
A salted fish who's willing to lie down and let others laugh at him?
nonexistent!
"Since we're already here, it would be a shame not to take a look around!" He manipulated the magical bed, slowly moving it deeper into the ruins.
This bed truly lives up to its reputation as a product of the system. Not only can it travel through time, but it can also transform into various modes of transportation. It's practically an essential magical item for home use, travel, and even robbery.
The ruins were deathly silent, with only the howling of the wind through the broken buildings, which sounded like the wailing of ghosts and wolves, sending chills down one's spine.
Lin Yu moved forward cautiously, afraid that a zombie or mutated monster might suddenly jump out from some corner.
As he walked, he complained, "The scene rendering is so realistic, the art team should get a reward!" Suddenly, he noticed a relatively intact building not far ahead, which looked like an abandoned supermarket.
"Great! A supply point!" Lin Yu rubbed his hands excitedly and steered the bed forward at an accelerated pace.
The supermarket's doors were already dilapidated, but Lin Yu drove straight in.
The supermarket was in complete chaos, with overturned shelves, goods scattered all over the floor, and the air filled with the stench of rotting food.
Lin Yu covered his nose and began scavenging for any usable supplies.
Just then, he heard a soft footstep approaching...
"Someone's there?" Lin Yu immediately became alert and manipulated the bed to hide behind a shelf.
The footsteps grew closer, suggesting there was more than one person.
"System, scan and see what's going on." "Beep! Scan complete. Three humans detected, suspected raiders." The system's cold voice rang in Lin Yu's mind.
"Raiders? Interesting." Lin Yu's lips curled up slightly, revealing a playful smile.
"It's been a while since I've had any exercise, so I might as well practice on them." He peeked out cautiously, observing the movements outside.
Three ragged men, carrying crude weapons, entered. They looked around.
"Boss, it seems like someone has been here before," one of the thin men said.
Another burly man scoffed, "Who cares? Finding the supplies is the most important thing." "Shh..." The leader suddenly made a shushing gesture; he seemed to have sensed something, his eyes fixed on the shelf where Lin Yu was hiding...
"Come out, I know where you're hiding." Lin Yu sneered and slowly crawled out from behind the shelf. The magical bed also transformed into a heavily armed war machine, with its cannons pointing menacingly at the three of them.
"You three little minions think you can steal my stuff? Take a good look at yourselves in the mirror!"
The three raiders were dumbfounded when they saw this.
The leader swallowed hard, his tone fierce but his voice weak: "You...you mustn't do anything rash! There are more of us..."
"Many people? You three ugly ducklings call that many people?" Lin Yu curled his lip in disdain. "I can take down your entire camp by myself!"
Before he finished speaking, a tongue of fire shot out from the cannon on the tank, and a small missile roared out, hitting the burly man's feet precisely.
With a deafening roar, a large crater was blasted into the ground, and the burly man was thrown into the air, crashing heavily to the ground, unable to get up for a long time.
"Boss!" the skinny man cried out in terror, turning to run away.
"Trying to run? Not so easy!" Lin Yu maneuvered the vehicle, drifting and sending the skinny man flying. He crashed into the wall, coughing up blood, clearly beyond saving.
The remaining leader, seeing this, was terrified and knelt on the ground begging for mercy: "Brother! Spare me! I have an eighty-year-old mother and a three-year-old child..."
"Enough with the nonsense!" Lin Yu remained unmoved. "Today I'll show you what it means to be crushed by a high-level player!"
The machine gun on the tank spat out a dense barrage of bullets, riddling the leading man with holes.
After the battle, Lin Yu easily looted their supplies, replenishing his own ammunition and food.
"Tsk tsk, these newbies aren't even good enough to be easy kills." Lin Yu shook his head and steered the vehicle out of the supermarket.
Just then, he suddenly felt a sharp pain, his vision went black, and he almost fell off the bed...
"What happened?" He clutched his chest, his face pale. "Could it be... a system malfunction?"
A clear female voice rang in his ear: "Are you alright?" Lin Yu clutched his chest, his face pale. Although he had won the battle easily, for some reason, a sharp pain suddenly struck him.
"Damn it, is the system really malfunctioning?" He gritted his teeth, trying to stay awake.
"Are you alright?" A clear female voice rang in his ear.
Lin Yu looked up and saw a tall woman standing by his bed. She was wearing tattered leather armor, holding a sharp dagger, and watching her surroundings warily.
"You are..." Lin Yu asked in confusion.
“My name is Ada,” the woman replied briefly. “I saw your fight just now; you were quite skilled.”
"You flatter me, it's just a minor skill," Lin Yu waved his hand, enduring the pain as he said, "It's just that this system seems a bit unstable..."
Ida ignored his complaints and instead knelt down to examine his wounds carefully.
"You're injured and need bandaging." Her tone was calm, yet carried an undeniable firmness.
"This little injury, I can handle it myself..." Lin Yu was interrupted by Ada before he could finish speaking.
“Don’t push yourself,” Ada said, skillfully tearing a piece of cloth and beginning to bandage his wound. “In the wasteland, even a small wound can be fatal.”
Ida's movements were gentle and swift. When her fingers touched Lin Yu's skin, they brought a slight coolness that made Lin Yu feel inexplicably at ease.
"Thank you," Lin Yu said sincerely. "I never expected to meet a master like you in this godforsaken place."
“I wouldn’t call myself an expert,” Ada smiled faintly. “I’m just more adapted to the rules of this world than you are.”
After the bandage was finished, Ada stood up and looked resolutely into the distance.
"We must find other survivors as soon as possible and form a team in order to survive in this cruel world."
“Great minds think alike,” Lin Yu stood up, his eyes gleaming. “Then let’s create our own legend together in this wasteland!”
They found a high point amidst the ruins. Lin Yu manipulated the magical bed into a megaphone and shouted into the empty wasteland, "Is anyone there? We are survivors! We need companions!"
Their voices echoed through the ruins, like a beacon in the darkness, guiding lost survivors.
After calling for a long time, just when they were about to give up, a faint response came from afar...
Lin Yu and Ada followed the sound and passed through a pile of ruins, where they discovered a hidden underground passage.
"Looks like we've found it," Lin Yu said excitedly. "Hopefully, the people inside are friendly."
Ada didn't speak, but cautiously drew her dagger and walked ahead.
The underground passage was long and dark, and they proceeded cautiously, afraid of encountering any danger.
Suddenly, Ida stopped. She pointed ahead and whispered, "Look..."
Lin Yu followed her finger and saw a bonfire at the end of the passage, with several ragged people sitting beside it.
"They're survivors!" Lin Yu exclaimed excitedly.
“Wait,” Ada stopped him, “look at their equipment…”
Lin Yu then noticed that those people were all carrying weapons and had fierce eyes; they were clearly not good people.
“They’re raiders…” Lin Yu said in a low voice, “Their camp…”
Ada nodded, her expression grave. "Looks like we're in trouble..."
They hid in the shadows, observing the raiders' camp. The camp had a large number of people and heavy weapons, so a direct assault was definitely not an option.
“We need to think of a way,” Lin Yu said in a low voice, “We can’t let them find out about us.”
Ada didn't speak, but gripped the dagger tightly, her eyes flashing with a cold light.
“Shh…” Ada suddenly made a shushing gesture, then pointed to a tent deep inside the camp, “Look…”
Lin Yu followed her finger and saw a faint light coming from inside the tent...
"Go and have a look."
