Chapter 269 The Proposal Has Arrived

After cursing these words in her heart, Da Ya turned around and left. She didn't go anywhere else, but went straight to Grandma Sun's house at the west end of the village.

When Daya arrived at Grandma Sun's door, Grandma Sun was feeding the chicks in the yard. Seeing Daya, she happily greeted her:

"Hey, Da Ya, what brings you to my house today?"

Daya smiled, pushed open the courtyard gate, walked straight in, and smiled at Grandma Sun.

"Grandma Sun, I didn't just come to see you; I also have something I'd like to ask you for help with."

Grandma Sun put down the chicken feeder and pulled Daya to sit on the small stool.

"Just tell me what's on your mind. If Grandma Sun can help, she definitely will."

"Grandma Sun, I was thinking that my brother and I are both getting on in years and it's time to find a husband. My parents are very easygoing and don't care about these things, so I came to your house hoping you could help me find a spouse."

Grandma Sun saw that this eldest daughter was an honest person. The matchmaking was all arranged by her parents. How could a daughter come to the matchmaker herself to ask for a marriage proposal? If word got out, wouldn't people laugh at her and say that she had no sense of propriety and didn't care about her reputation in order to find a husband?

Grandma Sun smiled.

"What kind of husband are you looking for? I'll keep an eye out for suitable ones if I come across one."

Daya immediately took Grandma Sun's hand and said with a smile:

“I think Su Shiyan from the second branch of the Su family in our village is quite good. We are about the same age and know each other well, but we just don’t have a matchmaker to break the ice. So I thought I’d ask you to help mediate between us.”

After hearing what Daya said, Grandma Sun frowned and said with a troubled expression:

"Da Ya, it's not that I don't want to help you, it's just that Su Shiyan is already engaged."

Daya, somewhat displeased upon hearing this, said:

"He wasn't even engaged just a few days ago? How come he's already engaged so quickly?"

Grandma Sun smiled and said:

"It's quite a coincidence. Su Shiyan and a junior from my maternal family have taken a liking to each other, so I played matchmaker for them. They're about to get engaged. Don't worry, there are plenty of good men out there. I'll find you other men."

After hearing this, Daya pondered for a moment before speaking:

"Oh, so you're a younger member of your maternal family. Which village are you from? I've never heard of you."

"It's just a girl from our Luo Family Village. You don't need to think about Su Shiyan. They've already found a girl for you, so don't worry. I'll keep an eye out for you. If there's a suitable man, I'll ask you to go and meet him."

As she spoke, Grandma Sun suddenly slapped her thigh as if she had just remembered something and exclaimed:

"By the way, Tie Niu from our village is looking for a wife. He's not much older than you. Why don't you two give each other a try? It's good to know each other well in this village."

Upon hearing this, Daya immediately stood up and smiled at Grandma Sun.

"No need, Grandma Sun. I don't like Tie Niu. If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."

With that, the eldest maid left Grandma Sun's courtyard without looking back. Grandma Sun, seeing this, called out at the top of her lungs:

"If you don't like Tie Niu, I'll keep an eye out for a suitable one for you in the future. Don't worry, Da Ya, I'll definitely find you a good husband."

Grandma Sun saw that Daya had walked away without even turning back to say goodbye, so she sighed helplessly and sat down. While picking up the chicken feed bowl from the ground, she muttered to herself...

"It seems that Su Shiyan is quite sought after. Fortunately, I introduced him to Lianhua in advance. Otherwise, if the people in this village had their eyes on him, Lianhua would have had no chance of winning."

Three days later,

The courtyard on Dwarf Mountain was bustling with activity as preparations began for the marriage proposal to Luo Family Village.

"Hanzhang, you should wear the new clothes that Banxia made for you. It will make you look more upright."

"Okay, okay, I got it. Don't rush me."

As Su Shiyan loaded things onto the oxcart, he excitedly shouted upstairs:

"Hurry up, little sister, are you all packed? I've loaded everything into the car, and we're leaving soon."

Su Banxia ran straight to the balcony and shouted down:

"Here she comes! I was just thinking of preparing a gift for my future sister-in-law."

As she spoke, Su Banxia picked up the jewelry box from the dressing table and rushed down happily.

At this moment, Su Hanzhang also came out of the house, dressed.

"Alright, now that everything is packed, let's hurry up and go, lest we miss the auspicious time. Oh, and we should pick up Grandma Sun at the west end of the village first, so she doesn't have to walk too much."

After everyone boarded the oxcart, Uncle Niu drove it to the west end of the village, picked up Grandma Sun, and then everyone headed to Luo Family Village.

Once everyone had arrived, they saw Lianhua waiting for them at the door. Su Shiyan hadn't seen Lianhua for several days, and seeing her now filled him with joy. He instinctively reached out to take Lianhua's hand.

Seeing this, Lianhua quickly withdrew her hand and said somewhat shyly:

"Be careful, your parents are watching."

Upon hearing this, Su Shiyan scratched his head sheepishly, then said:

"I'm so sorry, I haven't seen you in so long, and I missed you a bit, so I couldn't help myself..."

Lianhua blushed even more upon hearing Su Shiyan's words. She lowered her head and refused to look at Su Shiyan again. Instead, she turned to invite Wang Guihua and the others into the house.

"Uncle, Aunt, please come inside quickly. My mother has prepared a meal and is waiting for you."

As they were talking, Aunt Luo also came out of the house.

"Oh, come in quickly, come in quickly! You've come at just the right time, my food is fresh out of the pot and still warm. Come in and eat."

Aunt Luo greeted everyone with a smile and ushered them inside. Many of Lianhua's relatives had already arrived in the courtyard. Upon seeing Su Shiyan, everyone sized up Aunt Luo's future son-in-law.

"Hey, look at this big, burly guy, he must be pretty strong."

"He's not bad-looking either; he's more than a match for a lotus flower."

"What kind of talk is that? Our Lotus isn't ugly at all. She's capable and considerate. Whoever marries her will be blessed."

"Hey, I heard from Aunt Luo that her son-in-law's family is rich and lives in a two-story house. Otherwise, would Aunt Luo have been able to marry Lianhua off so easily?"

"No wonder. If you ask me, I wonder why Aunt Luo, who is so materialistic, would marry off her daughter so quickly. It turns out that her in-laws are rich."

Too lazy to stand in the courtyard and listen to their idle chatter, Su Banxia followed Lianhua into the house.
