Chapter 96 Making the Decision to Give You Up
When Kong Xiujin got home, her mother asked her why she had come back so soon after leaving.
She lied and said that business at the factory was bad, the seaweed wasn't selling, and they didn't need so many people. They said that if they had to lay off workers, they should lay off the people from other places first. That's how she got selected.
Her mother didn't say anything to her, but just cursed and said that the boss was inhuman and bullied people from out of town.
She went home and thought things through; she decided to resolve the issue of the child first.
Kong Xiufang guessed that her friend should have returned, so she wrote her a letter and asked her to come to the city to find her.
Kong Xiujin received the letter two days later. By then, she was almost two months pregnant and experiencing morning sickness.
Instead of procrastinating, I quickly bought a ticket to go to the city to find Kong Xiufang. Now I feel like a headless fly, flying around aimlessly, and I can only rely on my friend for support.
In the letter, Kong Xiufang told her her work address, and she got off the bus and walked to the garment factory.
It was already 3 p.m. when we arrived at the garment factory. The security guards led us to the workshop entrance.
The security guard entered the workshop and called for help, while Kong Xiujin waited outside.
When Kong Xiufang came out and saw the haggard Kong Xiujin, she felt both angry and heartbroken.
I was angry that she didn't know how to love herself and got pregnant out of wedlock, and I also felt sorry for her body being damaged and having to have an abortion.
Kong Xiufang took Kong Xiujin's hand and led her into the rest room next to the workshop.
After she asked Kong Xiujin to sit down, she poured her a glass of water. Kong Xiujin took the water, and tears streamed down her face.
Kong Xiufang sighed and said, "Since it's happened, we have to figure something out. I have some savings, enough for your surgery. But we need to be careful about choosing a hospital."
Kong Xiujin shook her head. "Xiufang, I'm afraid of pain, and I always feel that this child is like a destiny."
Kong Xiufang's eyes widened. "Are you crazy? You're not even married yet. How are you going to live with a child? People's spittle will drown you."
Kong Xiujin lowered her head and touched her belly, whispering, "I know, but I really can't bear to."
Kong Xiufang stood up and paced back and forth in anger. She looked at Kong Xiujin and said, "Think about it carefully. If you bring the child home, given your mother's temper, will she even let you in the house?"
Kong Xiujin's thoughts swayed, a mixture of reluctance, worry, and regret. How had she come to this?
Kong Xiufang continued, "If the child grows up, how will he register his household registration and go to school? What if he asks you where his father is? How will you answer? If the child doesn't have a father, how will his classmates view him?"
Kong Xiujin is once again caught in a vicious cycle of dilemma.
Kong Xiufang said, "Go stay at my older sister's house tonight and think carefully about what to do. Once you've decided, I'll go to the hospital with you tomorrow."
With only an hour left before she was to leave work, Kong Xiujin waited in the break room for a while, lost in thought.
When the bell rang to signal the end of the workday, Kong Xiufang led Kong Xiujin to her eldest sister's house.
Throughout the journey, Kong Xiufang kept comforting Kong Xiujin, helping her analyze the various problems associated with having the child and the advantages of not having it.
Kong Xiujin gradually began to think that what she said made a lot of sense. She was currently unemployed and couldn't go home. She couldn't even support herself, let alone raise a child.
If you don't have the means, it's best not to bring a child into this world. You'll suffer and toil yourself, and then make your child suffer along with you.
The conversation continued, and they arrived at the front of the eldest sister's new house. A large wooden door had been installed, painted a light brown color.
The gate is not very wide; it can only be used by a handcart to enter and exit.
She pushed open the door and called out, "Big sister, big sister, I'm here. Are you home?"
Sun Zitao came out and saw that it was his younger sister, and a thin, small girl was following her.
Kong Xiujin also called out, "Brother-in-law," following Kong Xiufang's lead.
Sun Zitao replied, "Oh, come in and sit down! Your sister is taking care of the children inside."
The two girls entered the house, and the elder sister, Kong Xiujuan, was surprised to see Kong Xiujin. She said, "Oh! Isn't this Xiujin? What brings you here? It's been so many years, I've missed you terribly."
After saying that, she walked over and took her hand. The moment she touched it, she felt that her little hand was icy cold, and she spoke with concern.
"Why are your hands so cold? And why are you so thin? You need to eat more. Don't be like those pretty girls who always talk about dieting. We girls from the countryside have all suffered, so it's most important for us to take good care of our health..."
Kong Xiujuan rambled on and on, and Kong Xiufang said, "Alright, sister, stop talking. Let her sit down and rest first!"
Kong Xiujuan said embarrassedly, "Look at my memory, Xiujin is still standing! Come...come...come sit down and talk."
As she spoke, she pulled Kong Xiujin to sit on a stool. Kong Xiufang poured a glass of water and handed it to Kong Xiujin.
She smacked her lips and placed the food on the table. Seeing that a guest had arrived and that the little girl was quite reserved with him around, Sun Zitao tactfully took his son to his bedroom.
The daughter was doing her homework in her bedroom when she heard someone come to the house. She didn't go out and continued studying.
Seeing that her brother-in-law had gone out, Kong Xiufang felt more comfortable talking to her, so she went to her eldest sister's ear and whispered something.
On the way here, the two girls had already discussed telling their older sister about this. Their older sister was more experienced and knew more, and they also needed her to take care of Kong Xiujin for a while.
Kong Xiujuan looked quite surprised after hearing this. She paused for a moment before realizing what she meant.
She whispered to Kong Xiujin, "Xiujin, have you thought about what to do?"
With red eyes, Kong Xiujin said, "Big sister, I don't know what to do either. I don't have the means to raise this child, but I can't bear to..."
She finished speaking and then cried, but silently, sobbing without making a sound. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Kong Xiujuan comforted her, saying, "We are all sisters from the same family, there are no outsiders here, so I'll just share my opinion."
“I don’t think you can keep this child. You can’t raise it now, and how will you find a husband in the future? You can’t let an irresponsible bad man ruin your life! After this is over, take good care of your health, and in a year or two, we’ll find a good person to marry. We can have children then, and the child you have will be your own precious baby!”
Kong Xiufang nodded in agreement, "Yes, Xiujin, look at how joyous every woman is when she gives birth these days. They even throw a big banquet. Both the mother and child are basking in the glory, the child is pampered by the in-laws, and the child is happy too!"
Kong Xiujin felt that her older sister and Xiufang were right, and finally made up her mind to have the surgery tomorrow.
Kong Xiufang said, "I'll go with you to a proper hospital in the city tomorrow. I have some money on hand, enough for you, don't worry."
Kong Xiujin thanked her repeatedly.
Kong Xiujuan said, "I'll go with you tomorrow! After all, it wouldn't look good if people saw you two young girls, and it would be hard to explain."
The three of them agreed, and Kong Xiufang returned to her dormitory. Kong Xiujin slept with Sun Limei for the night.
As she lay in bed, her mind was filled with memories of her past with the scumbag, replaying like a fantasy film.
From getting to know each other, falling in love, to finally being abandoned, it seems like everything was initiated by myself.
That man didn't love her either; he jumped into the sea in a moment of desperation, not for her at all.
If he truly loved himself with his life, why wouldn't he want his own child?
She silently vowed to herself, "Goodbye, scumbag. I want to forget you, forget all memories of you."
As I thought about it, tears soaked my pillow...
