Chapter 231 Battle with the White Goose

After breakfast, it was already 8:30. Yunya took her two sisters to their great-grandfather Kong Tongyuan's house.

As soon as I reached the gate, I saw a lively scene in the yard. A group of piglets were scrambling around the feeding trough to grab their feed.

There were two roosters and two hens nearby, pecking at the food scraps they had thrown out while fighting for food.

Yun Ya went into the yard first, followed carefully by Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan, keeping a meter's distance. They were afraid the big white goose would run out and peck at them.

Things turned out exactly as they expected; it was just as they thought.

As soon as Yunya stepped into the yard, the two big white geese saw a stranger come to the house and started honking "goose~ goose~ goose" while stretching their necks to peck at Yunya.

Although Yunya was mentally prepared, she was still startled by the speed of the white geese. They wiggled their bottoms and ran so fast. Looking at the two short little legs under the white geese's bellies, she wondered how they could move so fast.

Without thinking twice, Yunya took off running, searching for "weapons" as she went.

Upon seeing this, Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan quickly retreated a few steps, moving further away from Yun Ya.

There was a stack of tree branches on the east wall of Xie Wenli's courtyard. They were probably cut down for firewood and cooking, and they were almost completely dried.

Yun Ya casually pulled out a tree branch about the thickness of a thumb, turned around and swung it at the big white goose that was chasing her.

The white goose was not timid at all; flapping its wings and stretching its neck, it bravely charged forward.

Yun Ya wasn't going to back down either, swinging the branch in her hand with a whooshing sound. A comedic film of "human versus poultry" began to unfold.

Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan didn't dare to come in; they stood at the gate, staring blankly at the spectacle unfolding in the courtyard.

Xie Wenli, who was tidying up in the kitchen, heard the noise in the yard and poked her head out to check.

Upon discovering that Yunya was "fighting" with the big white goose, I couldn't help but laugh out loud.

She clutched her stomach and laughed, "Oh my! Yunya, when did you get here? Look at these geese, they're good at guarding the house! Haha...hahaha!"

Seeing her great-grandmother watching the show and laughing at her, Yunya said anxiously, "Oh dear, great-grandmother, come and help me! You're still laughing there. I'm about to be pecked by the white goose."

Xie Wenli stopped teasing her, slowly walked out of the kitchen, and even wiped the water stains on his hands on his apron.

She called out, "Tsk tsk tsk..." The big white goose seemed to understand the general meaning of her voice and waddled toward Xie Wenli.

Yunya gave a thumbs up and exclaimed, "Wow! Great-Grandma, you're amazing! You actually managed to tame the big white goose!"

Xie Wenli laughed and said, "Haha, train a big white goose? I don't have that ability. These poultry and livestock recognize people. Like puppies, if you accompany them as they grow up and feed them every day, they will recognize you and become close to you over time. They can even understand what you mean."

Yunya stood there lost in thought, resting her chin on her hand.

Xie Wenli had already herded the large white geese into the alleyway on the west side of the main room. There was a wooden gate on the other side of the alleyway, which was now blocking the geese's way.

She went to the top of the chicken coop next to the pigsty, took some grass that Kong Xiangwei had cut that morning, and threw it to the big white goose to eat.

Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan had already entered through the gate. They stood beside Yunya, watching her great-grandmother feed the geese.

Xie Wenli turned around and saw the two extra girls. He asked, "Yunya, who are these two children?"

Yunya pointed to Sun Limei and introduced her: "Grandma, this is my older sister, Sun Limei."

Then she pointed to Zhang Haiyan and said, "This is my second aunt's daughter, Zhang Haiyan."

Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan greeted Xie Wenli at the same time: "Hello, Great-Grandma!"

Xie Wenli replied with a smile, "Hey! Okay, haha! You're all good kids too."

Sun Limei, ever the friendly type, pointed to the west and said, "Grandma, can we go over there to feed the white geese?"

Xie Wenli said with a smile, "Okay, go ahead if you like! But don't go in, or put your hands in, or you'll get pecked."

The three children nodded in unison: "Okay, Grandma, we understand." Xie Wenli then went back to doing housework and didn't pay any more attention to the children.

Each of the three girls held a blade of grass from the top of the chicken coop and began feeding the white goose.

The large white goose was no longer as fierce as before. It was eating grass obediently and looked very cute.

The piglets in the yard finished their breakfast, huddled together, and lazily lay on the ground basking in the sun. The rooster and hen were still circling around, looking for food.

Two little lambs, one black and one white, ran out from the alleyway on the east side of the main room. They were lively and cute, hopping and skipping onto the top of the chicken coop to eat grass.

From time to time, the bleating of ewes could be heard from the east side of the alley. It seemed that the mother sheep was also hungry, so Yunya picked up some more grass and ran to feed the ewe.

After finishing her chores in the kitchen, Grandma came out. Seeing Yunya helping to feed the sheep, a smile unconsciously appeared on her face.

She said, "Yunya, have you all had breakfast yet? If not, Grandma will make you some noodles."

Yunya waved her hand: "Grandma, we've already had breakfast. It was my sisters who wanted to see the big white goose, so we came to play."

Xie Wenli understood perfectly. "Yes, come over to visit often when you have time. Grandma really enjoys talking to children."

Yun Ya smiled and said, "Okay! Great-Grandma, we'll come over to play whenever we have time."

After a pause, Yunya asked again, "Grandma, where did Uncle Wei go? I want to play with Uncle Wei."

Xie Wenli knew that his youngest son was popular with children, so he didn't hide anything. He said, "He got up this morning and went to the fields to cut grass. After coming back and having breakfast, he went to his second sister's house. That's your second aunt Xiuting's house."

Yunya asked curiously, "Oh! What's Uncle Wei doing at Auntie's house? Is there something he needs to do?"

Xie Wenli felt a little uncomfortable, thinking that the only thing that was unlikable about children was their inquisitive and persistent nature.

Xie Wenli said, "I don't know either. Maybe he stayed for dinner and won't be back until tonight!"

Yunya was even more disappointed. She returned to the alleyway on the west side of the main room and said to her sisters, "Sisters, do you know? Uncle Wei, Great-Grandma's youngest son, is so funny! He used to play with us all!"

Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan didn't know this "Uncle Wei" at all. They exchanged a glance and replied at the same time, "Oh, we really want to meet him!"
