Chapter 227 Group Return to Rural Areas

Chapter 227 Returning to the Countryside as a Group

Campus life is fulfilling, and before we know it, it's Labor Day again. School is going to have a long holiday again, and as always, Yunya prepared everything she needed to bring early and went to her maternal grandmother's house.

Accompanying her this time were her older sister, Sun Limei, and her second aunt's eldest daughter, Zhang Haiyan. They were all going back to the countryside with Yunya to experience rural life.

In their eyes, the countryside is a tourist paradise, even though they themselves have never traveled anywhere.

At school, I often hear my classmates mention that their parents took them to Tiananmen Square in Beijing or to see the Great Wall during the holidays.

Some classmates would get together and show off that they had gone on a farm stay trip somewhere.

Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan also envied others. They were the same age, but when others celebrated a holiday, it was a real celebration.

For children from ordinary families, celebrating holidays is no different from their daily lives.

The only difference is that you don't have to worry about being late because you can't get out of bed in the morning. And you don't have to worry about being punished by standing in the corner the next day if you don't finish your homework at night.

How could we miss such a great opportunity? Even if it's not as fun as a real agritourism destination, it can still let them experience authentic rural life.

Around 7 a.m., the three girls gathered together and loaded their prepared bundles onto the tricycle. Kong Xiujuan pedaled the tricycle to take them to the bus station. Only after the three girls boarded the bus did Kong Xiujuan go home.

In the car, Yunya excitedly told her sisters about the joys and sorrows of rural life.

The two listened attentively, occasionally asking a question, which caused laughter among the adults and children in the carriage.

As they approached their destination, Yunya looked out the car window, taking in the scenery carefully. The car continued moving forward, and Yunya saw the increasingly familiar buildings and the iconic old locust tree.

He hurriedly called out, "Driver, stop at the big locust tree at the intersection ahead." The ticket seller pointed to the big locust tree at the village entrance and said with a smile, "Oh, this big tree is quite old; it's a very obvious landmark!"

The car arrived at the highway near the big locust tree. The driver opened the door, and the three girls got out of the car with their bags.

After getting off the bus, Yunya told them to stand by the roadside and not move around until the bus left.

The two sisters were very obedient and didn't dare to move around. Only after the car had driven far away did they each carry their schoolbags and walk towards their grandmother's house.

Yunya was carrying not only a schoolbag but also a large bundle on her shoulder. Seeing her younger sister struggling to walk, Sun Limei said, "Yunya, let me help you carry the bundle! How about we lift it together?"

Yunya thought about it and agreed. The two sisters each carried one of the bag handles and continued on their way with their bundles.

Zhang Haiyan followed behind them, asking, "Yunya, are we almost at Grandma's house? It's so far! I'm exhausted."

Yunya replied excitedly, "Oh! Almost there, just around the corner."

Ten minutes later, we finally saw Grandma's courtyard. What came into view were the new high walls and the new gate.

I walked over, pushed open the gate, and entered the yard. "Little Yellow" barked incessantly when it heard someone coming.

Upon hearing "Little Yellow's" call, Yunya ran into the yard carrying her bundle, calling out, "Little Yellow, Little Yellow, stop biting! Do you remember me?"

Local dogs have excellent memories; they can remember their owners after many years apart, and can even identify them by smell and sound, sometimes for their entire lives.

"Little Yellow" didn't hear any sound or see Yunya, but it recognized its familiar little master by smell.

It kept wagging its tail vigorously, making anxious "zzzz...zzzz...zzzz" sounds.

Yunya didn't care about anything else. She threw the bundle she was carrying into the yard, ran over, hugged the dog, and kept stroking its fur.

She then patted its head affectionately. Sun Limei was almost tricked when she was thrown the bundle. Fortunately, she managed to keep her balance and didn't fall.

Mu Shuyun had been doing needlework in the room. When she heard the dog barking and then heard Yunya's voice, she happily threw what she was holding onto the bed and hurried outside.

Upon seeing their grandmother, the three girls quickly greeted her. Mu Shuyun was overjoyed to see the three children who had come together.

He said with a smile, "Oh, Limei and Haiyan have come too. Come in and rest for a bit."

The three girls followed their grandmother into the house. The grandmother placed a large bundle on the floor inside. She busied herself pouring them water and taking out dried fruit from the cupboard to treat them.

Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan looked around the room with curiosity. The old furniture and old photos on the wall were all new to them.

Yunya held her grandmother's hand and chattered on about what was happening at school.

Just then, footsteps came from the courtyard; it turned out that my second uncle had returned.

When the second uncle saw the three girls, he smiled and said, "Oh, you're all here! Perfect timing. I just picked some fresh vegetables from the field. I'll cook something delicious for you tonight."

Zhang Haiyan's eyes lit up, and she asked, "Second Uncle, can we go to the fields together?"

My second uncle laughed heartily: "Of course, I'll take you there in a bit."

After lunch, the second uncle took the three girls to the field. The lush green rapeseed, the purslane growing everywhere, the crisp and tender green cucumbers, the unripe green tomatoes, and the wheat ears swaying in the breeze excited them.

Yunya skillfully helped her uncle with weeding, and Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan followed suit. As the sun set, the three returned home, exhausted but joyful.

Lying in bed, Zhang Haiyan exclaimed, "Rural life is much more interesting than I imagined."

Sun Limei felt the same way. After resting for a while, Yunya wanted to take them to find Caixia to play. But it was already dark. "Never mind, I'll take them tomorrow!"

Thinking this, Yunya started teasing the stray dog in the yard.

Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan also wanted to go forward and pet the dog, but "Little Yellow" cautiously stepped back, letting out a low growl.

Yun Ya quickly comforted her, "Little Huang, don't be afraid, they are my older and younger sisters, they won't hurt you." As she spoke, Yun Ya took the two women's hands and gently placed them on "Little Huang's" body.

"Little Yellow" stiffened for a moment, then relaxed and obediently let them stroke it.

Suddenly, a commotion arose in the distance, as if many people were running and shouting.

Yun Ya frowned, stood up, went out of the courtyard to the gate, and looked in the direction from which the sound came. She saw a group of people with flashlights rushing towards them.

My second uncle rushed out of the house, his face grave: "Something's wrong. I'm afraid someone's house has been burgled."

Everyone's hearts jumped, especially the three young girls. Sun Limei and Zhang Haiyan had never seen anything like it before. They couldn't help but feel nervous and afraid.

Yunya comforted her, "Don't be afraid, our grandma's house has a new gate and high walls, thieves can't get in."

The two sisters finally breathed a sigh of relief.
