Ling Silang nodded slightly, then lowered his head to eat his noodles.

The beggars at the door stood watching, showing no intention of rushing in. Du Mingxian stepped forward and walked to the door, only to see the beggars run away.

Du Mingxian didn't take it to heart, and only turned to Ling Silang, who was eating noodles, and said, "We have to keep watch tonight. You keep watch for the first half of the night, and I'll keep watch for the second half."

"it is good."

Du Mingxian specifically emphasized, "Don't think that you can do the whole thing by yourself. If you don't rest during the day and do the whole night, your body won't be able to handle it."

"it is good."

Ling Silang did indeed think that way, but after Du Mingxian reminded him, he dared not do so.

Nothing happened that night, and the two got up, packed a few things, and set off again.

They had barely stepped out of the dilapidated temple when Ling Silang approached Du Mingxian and whispered, "Are we being followed?"

"Yes, don't look back, keep moving forward and see what they're up to."

"We haven't bothered anyone along the way, have we?"

Du Mingxian shook her head, "It's not necessarily because we caused it; sometimes bad luck can bring trouble."

Ling Silang was less experienced than Du Mingxian when it came to travel, so he listened to Du Mingxian's advice in everything.

The two walked for about an hour and came to a grove of trees, where they stopped to rest. Just then, a few people came out from the direction they had come from; they were the beggars who had been at the entrance of the dilapidated temple the night before.

"They are the ones who are tracking us."

Du Mingxian nodded, but she didn't quite understand. These people didn't look like beggars. What kind of beggar would have a fat man?

"What do you want to do with us?" she asked directly.

The beggars stopped, and the fat man leading them said with a fierce expression, "You two, come with us."

"why?"

"You handed our people over to the authorities and then asked us why?"

Du Mingxian and Ling Silang immediately realized that the two were fake pregnant women.

“What if we don’t go with them?” Ling Silang asked back.

"Okay, then don't blame us for being impolite."

Du Mingxian smiled, "We'll go with you, let's not hurt each other's feelings."

The beggars then smiled with satisfaction. "Good thing you know what's good for you."

What was originally a path for the two of them to walk forward has now become a procession, with Du Mingxian and Ling Silang walking in the middle, two beggars in front, and the rest behind, forming an escort formation.

I walked for a whole day... but didn't get there.

Where are you taking us?

"This is naturally where you should go," the beggar said with a menacing look.

Du Mingxian simply stopped asking and rested with Ling Silang against a big tree. The two had eaten dried meat while traveling and were not hungry. Now that there were guards, they felt at ease and fell asleep.

Another uneventful night passed, and the sound of horses' hooves could be heard early the next morning.

The fat beggar who was leading the group immediately ran forward, "Did Third Master send you?"

"Hmm." The man sitting on the horse glanced at Du Mingxian and Ling Silang, his expression showing dissatisfaction. "This batch of goods is not bad."

"These two people let the pregnant woman and her companion in, but they were quite sensible and didn't cause any trouble on the way."

"Good, very good." The man on horseback was quite satisfied. "A carriage will be passing by in a little while. Hand the goods over to the manager. I will speak to Third Master about this matter and award you a great merit."

"Thank you, thank you," the fat beggar said repeatedly.

Du Mingxian had a feeling that she had gotten involved in a major incident.

The man immediately tossed a silver ingot to the fat man, saying, "Take your men and have a good meal."

"Thank you, we are happy to serve Third Master."

A short while later, two carriages passed by. Du Mingxian glanced at them and could tell from the tire tracks that the carriages were carrying heavy loads.

Then... the driver jumped off the carriage, and the fat beggar and the man whispered to each other beside him.

Someone next to her gave her a push, "Go up."

Du Mingxian looked up and saw... some people were sitting in the carriage, some were tied up, and some had their mouths covered. The people sitting in the carriage looked numb, as if they had lost their souls. The mouths of the others were covered, so they couldn't make a sound.

"Ten children were locked in the small carriage."

The younger one looked to be only five or six years old, while the older one was about the same age as her. There were only two of them, and both of them looked numb, as if they had lost their souls.

"I want to stay with my husband." Du Mingxian didn't want to be separated from Ling Silang, because it would be hard to find someone else if they were separated.

Ling Silang also saw the situation inside the carriage, and he was shocked. "Yes, I want to be with my wife."

The man driving the carriage chuckled and waved to the people behind him, "Alright, if the two of them want to be together, then lock them up in the back carriage."

Du Mingxian had a bad feeling, but she still followed them to the back.

The carriages behind carried boys, none of them particularly young; the youngest was around fourteen and the oldest was eighteen.

Boys develop faster, and some are also taller. The small carriage had six people crammed inside, making it look incredibly crowded.

Upon seeing this, Ling Silang immediately changed his mind, "You go to the carriage in front."

Before Du Mingxian could say anything more, Ling Silang immediately looked at her and said, "Go away, don't waste your time here."

Du Mingxian could only walk forward, and before leaving, she secretly slipped a small dagger into Ling Silang's hand.

The man in the lead didn't say anything. Du Mingxian sat inside. She sat on the outermost side, and as soon as she entered, she could feel that the smell in the narrow carriage was really... extremely strong and incredibly smelly.

Fortunately, Du Mingxian had experienced even worse circumstances in her previous life, so she could still tolerate it.

The carriage continued to sway and wobble forward, and Du Mingxian secretly peeked outside through the gap in the curtain.

As the carriage entered a village at night, it stopped at the first house at the village entrance. Once inside the courtyard and the gate was closed, the carriage curtain was lifted, and the driver exclaimed with obvious disgust, "Get out, all of you!"

Du Mingxian was very cooperative, so her hands and feet were not tied. But now... she had just come down and her hands were tied up. Ling Silang was also tied up.

The door to the side room of the farmhouse was open, and someone was standing there impatiently, holding a bowl in his hand and a bucket in front of him.

When someone walks by, he will offer them water, but... after this person finishes drinking, the next person drinks, all from the same bowl.

The others had been tied up for too long and probably hadn't had water for a while. One or two of them would finish one bowl and then want to drink a second bowl. The bucket of water was gone very quickly, and someone immediately brought a second bucket of water.

Du Mingxian saw that the water was drawn from a well, so she gave it to them to drink directly.

The men were the ones who came first. Ling Silang walked to the very back, still maintaining his scholarly and refined demeanor. "I'm not thirsty."

The man offering water waved his hand, saying, "If you're not going to drink, then go inside."

Ling Silang went in, and this time it was the woman's turn. Du Mingxian went in first, and she didn't drink any water either, but... she saw a greedy glint in the man's eyes when he saw her.
